So much goes into a Pretender shell. Almost to the point that holding the robot inside is the least of its worries (basically "have a big enough cavity"). It'll need to have enough heft/thickness in parts to stand well while carrying a folded-up chunk in it. It'll need to be interesting enough...
Eh, I'm sure they can do a solid new take that doesn't need to hew too closely to it. The T30 effort was decent and could do with some refining, and they've put out some good looking bruiser builds since. Maybe it could even work using the Gamer Edition/Fractured Friendship Optimus engineering...
The side by sides I've seen do show that this captures the sheer width and mass of that character. With better proportions for the lower body too. So that helps. (But, again, already fine with the current/existing Breakdown...)
I have a strange fondness and affinity for the original that makes it the only "right" looking thing in my eyes, flaws and all. The new one looks great in isolation (if a bit weedy) and seems to pose like a dream, but put them side by side and it's no contest. Limited articulation and kind of...
I kinda dig it but I'm waiting for a character that looks better wearing it. So far for Bulkhead and Breakdown I prefer the originals. I'd try to repurpose the Breakdown (if only to justify the cost of the 2-pack; mainly getting it for Windsweeper and friends) but no ideas there.
I'd love for them to give us, say, a Leader Star Convoy... Then retool it into "RID2015 Universe" Optimus Prime or something. Big pluses if they somehow also gave us Micromaster Hot Rodimus and then Aerobolt.
I really could have done with a Powermaster/Super Ginrai over the Star Convoy. Would have been an easier thing to match -- Star Convoy has entirely different proportions and an entirely different aesthetic in both modes, while PMOP is basically a suped-up G1 Optimus altmode AND robot mode...
I'm in agreement that POTP was a very exciting line with some great concepts in it, but it turned into a messy catch-all that's the least cohesive of the trilogy.
It feels a lot like "let's throw in all the leftovers from CW/TR", from Titan Master types, to Legends class vehicles that could...
Not that I mind the new name, but I think they missed a trick by not naming Nucleous "Comettor". But then I guess there's still time for a redeco of, say, Shard.
Id love it if these got marked down locally too. Would love to gather up the partnered Beast Weaponizers and chuck the bigger bots. And I need to catch up on the Deluxes too.
Seeing all these minicons and other stuff from such a fondly remembered few years... It does my rusted, creaking heart...
I'm tempted by it but I get distracted by how long the arms are on Prime. Standing at rest he looks great, but when they're bent in an action pose it's hard to unsee the remaining WFC game aesthetic.
But the real dealbreaker is the fact that it's a set with Megatron, who's even less appealing...
He had a cause originally. But they had to remove it because it turned out the retail budget just couldn't support it or the trailer. We'll see if Takara manages to reissue it.
I'd rather avoid "they don't transform". Action Master homages can be done a lot of ways: bring the partner figures back as Battle Masters or pack-in Targetmasters, some deco choices (Jazz with slate blue instead of black in places, Shockwave with orange arm gun and chest panel), or best of all...
One key problem with Pretenders is this: take, say, Kingdom Core class Optimus Prime. The plastic blister bubble he comes in is essentially the shell. Asking for classic style Pretenders now is asking to take essentially that blister bubble (big enough to contain the Core class figure), but give...
I'm totally lost on the logic here. If you have to mangle the point that much to be "right", guess what? You're not right.
"They'll work in tandem with the rest of the line if they ARE the rest of the line", is hilarious even on its own. That's like saying a product is made "waterproof" by...
