For me it comes down to a frustration with how inconsistent the franchise as a whole is at building its own mythology. Transformers is kind of unique in that it reinvents itself totally each time. Which isn't bad per se but it has its drawbacks.
Like you have GHOST, Sector 7, whoever Agent...
And then people complained when the MCU version skipped it 😛
Honestly, "ignore the loudest fans" isn't a half bad piece of advice to any studio making franchise films.
I admit I'm not familiar with how work for hire contracts work in Japan, but it just strikes me as weird that they could write Transformers manga and that they or their publishers would own original creations made for the licence they're working on.
Like I'm pretty sure Hasbro owns Rung, not...
Bad first trailer, poor release slot coming out only after kids no longer have days worth of free time, bad marketing.
There are very simple reasons why this crashed.
I don't think audience confusion over what continuity this belonged to mattered. Fact is general audience sorts don't care...
Yeah. Like Marvel making sure Circuit Breaker got into a Secret Wars comic before she appeared in Transformers was a ploy to keep the rights to her. Notably had she appeared first in a Transformers comic then she would have been a Transformers character and been Hasbro IP.
So it's strange that...
ScarJo put in a really characterful performance as Elita. I was expecting her to sleepwalk through it but she actually put a lot into it and she became my favourite character in the film.
Makes me think she's got more to offer as a performer, she just needs a decent director.

The Five Faces of Darkness five parter establishes a long lineage of Autobot Primes and hints that it has some origin tied to the Quintessons, which ties in with the origins of Cybertron and Cybertronians that...
Yeah the '86 movie's story is a serviceable hero's journey that's not particularly shy about ripping off Star Wars here and there (the most popular version of that narrative at the time), and the stuff about killing off the main cast just for the sake of selling new toys certainly wasn't done...
As the war between the Autobots and Decepticons rages on Earth, the EDC begins an initiative in secret, even from their Autobot allies. DIACLONE. By using scavenged Cybetronian tech, the DIACLONE force completes its first piloted mech, based on Autobot leader Optimus Prime.
"YOU HAVE NO...
I always imagined Hot Rod and Tracks were related in some way. Like Tracks is Hot Rod's stuffy old money cousin who thinks it's a poor show to wear your flames in robot mode.
Yep. And say what you will about Michael Bay (I'll insist that he's capable of, and has made, good movies) but at the very least the dude knows how to shoot something and make you feel the energy.
Bay's incredible when it comes to cinematography (to the point that James Cameron unironically...
