Could be worse. Try finding good sources on Norse mythology. They didn't write much down, and the few sources that survived the centuries are either fragmentary, written post-Christianisation, or both. And they had three or four different runic systems, so translating is a pain.

I'd be surprised if Trump lives long enough for another term, but all he has to do is set a precedent for a more competent monster to take over later and his role is done, as far as the party's concerned.
Considering the sheer amount of "he'll never actually do it" that he's actually done or tried to do, it's safer for everyone to assume he really is stupid and/or insane enough to do what he says he's gonna do.
