You guys get real Transformers at your Rosses? I went to a new one that just opened near me and this was all they had
(Gotta admit, at $9.99 I was still tempted)
I agree that I can't blame the comics or Hasbro... which is why I didn't.
I'm also not really blaming Hasbro for being 'late' either; almost two years is actually probably pretty quick considering how long it takes to get a (legitimate) toy from design concept to release. It was more an...
Right? It was a decently cool moment at first, but after seeing all the reposts, recreations and customs it got tiresome reeeeeeal quick.
Also a little late after how it resolved in the comics.
According to TFW2005 we are getting a Studio Series Skybound/Energon Universe Optimus Prime, with his Megatron arm. Supposedly retails for $79.99.
I still manage to get surprised at some of the stuff they release... I'm assuming it's a retool of the SS86 Optimus mold?
At least his fusion...
That Optimus is amazing; super surprised to scroll down and see that robot turn into that.
The Starscream is equally terrible though, really on the fence about whether it's worth the 2-pack price just to get Optimus.
There's a decent amount of content/dialogue but I felt like, on the whole, not a lot really happened. At least, I can't really guess where things are going. Megatron is rallying the troops but there's no plan beyond still being Decepticons. Optimus gets introduced to Sector Seven Skywatch Shadow...
Yeah that's incredibly boring. Especially these days, between the brand expanding, distribution, and prices going up, I bet few people are actually getting all the toys. I think I only got one or two toys out of each category.
Right, but it easily could've been fixed for the new version. I would've preferred they fixed stuff like muddy art and the poor recolorings, but that understandably would've taken a decent chunk of effort and time. Fixing text is something that could be done rather quickly.
Whoooole lotta comments from backers complaining about the poor quality, bad enough to the point Skybound actually put this out in response:
Which is basically a nice way of saying "too bad, you'll get what you get." I wouldn't be expecting any differences between the PDFs they released and...
Dangit now I want the Airachnid mold but with a Vehicon head. Would be a good idea for a repaint/redeco but I know if I pass on this one it'll never happen. Still waiting for that Legacy Skyquake to get turned into G1 Skyquake or MW Starscream...
At first I only scrolled down enough to see the side view of the alt mode and thought lame, another "submarine" but then I scrolled further and saw the whale mode, which is pretty fun!
Man those tapes are awful. The birds have terrible wing designs and weird gaps in cassette mode. Ravage is okay in panther mode, but his alt-mode is just a rectangle and doesn't even look close to a cassette.
I like the bulky proportions on Soundwave himself. The shade of blue is too light IMO...
So he clearly has knees but I still can't tell if he can bend his legs upwards at the hips (as opposed to just out sideways). Looks like there's a split there (so he can split his legs sideways at an angle) but it seems like the ridge on that hip joint wouldn't allow forward movement. That one...
#23 was a fun issue. Ultra Magnus finally gets to do something cool, even if "WE CAN ALL DIE!" is a bit morbid for a rallying speech. Couldn't help but think of "For Frodo" too.
The Matrix stuff feels like it should be emotionally touching but I also can't tell wtf is going on there which kinda...
Nice write-up, always love the trip down memory lane. The packaging for '84-87 really does feel like top-tier stuff to me, and I think it's easy to take for granted how much the mural art, individual character art and tech specs all made the toyline so much more enjoyable. I remember being quite...
I'll be curious to see how they do the coneheads. I don't have nearly as many grievances with the ER mold as some here, but one thing I never liked about it was how short the coneheads' heads were.
Heh, I was thinking that Amalgamous is everything I loved about the BM Vehicon toys, and Quintus is everything I hated about the BM Maximal toys.
I'm curious to see how Razorclaw looks as an actual toy, but I'm thinking it'll be a pass since I already got Tigerhawk and the colors aren't wowing...
