Yeah, even now you'll get people responding to descriptions of the current state of it as "eh, Twitter was always a dump". Like I have no doubt it COULD get bad like any social media platform can, and the site's security and moderation did tend to be relaxed for the sake of profit at times.
But it never went to these lengths of actively indulging in its owner's weird-ass juvenilia, welcoming back sketchy CSAM sharing personas, gutting its moderation staff numbers, issuing warnings for the "slur" cisgender while allowing actual slurs, banning accounts the owner doesn't like, and setting fire to so much of its actual value (via advertising being alienated) and intangibles (via the trust and prestige of verification being turned into a paid-for product).
I've seen posts welcoming a Hasbro takeover because "they've done flop after flop", and the kindest responses to the rumor tend to be "what would change really".( Unsurprisingly usually from people who get their opinions from YouTubers, but I digress.) But for all my distaste for the sea change it's been since losing Goldner, Hasbro is still run like a proper company by people who know how to run a business AS a business, not the latest flashy thing daddy bought you so you could try and get the cool kids to say you're cool, too.
