There's a new video up about the Zelda Switch 2 Editions. I'm a lot more interested now. Besides the navigation stuff that was mentioned in the Direct, you can also get lore dumps through Zelda Notes at various places from Zelda, Rauru, and... Master Kohga!? Also, new amiibo of the TotK sages are coming on Jume 5th!

multiple saves is nice.
Agreed! I've thought about starting a new game a few times just to re-experience some stuff that doesn't get covered in the Memories. I just would never be willing to give up my main save and never wanted to do so badly enough to set up a new account. This could get me to actually do a new playthrough.

So I'll get them free given I have Nintendo Switch Online. That's good. I half expected Super Mario Odyssey to get an upgrade but these will do.

Age of Imprisonment was the new announcement that got me the most excited by two miles and a superglued flying machine.

I'm wondering if Imprisonment will change the ending again. I suspect not; the previous game already did that, and the Imprisonment War's canon ending wasn't a literally apocalyptic failure. On the other limb, time travel is already part of the story. Oddly, Tears retroactively justified the plot device from Calamity, for all that I doubt that it was on purpose.

I'm pretty sure that part of the reason for the time travel plot in Calamity was to have an excuse to put large-scale battles in what had been a relatively peaceful era prior to Calamity Ganon escaping. Not an issue with this story.

I'm expecting Sonia to be a playable character, regardless of whether or not the game starts after her death. If nothing else, I expect the game to address the issue of her and Rauru's offspring.

So... Pretty sure that the original Sages are the source of the names for the Divine Beasts. Calling it right now, they'll be named variations on Nabooris/Nabooru, Medoh/Medli, Rudania/Daruna, and Rutoh/Rutah.

I'm expecting the first battles of the game to occur before the war officially begins with Sonia's murder. Rauru and everyone would see the monsters attacking and wonder what's going on, why they're attacking, and who's responsible for sending them, all before Ganondorf is revealed to be the culprit. These early fights could even occur well before the Molduga attack, leaving Ganondorf a mystery to our heroes in the early stages of the game's main story.

Odyssey IS getting an “update”, but it seems more akin to a software boost to “smooth out” the game. The free updates feel like simple performance buffs and compatibility with online features. The Paid updates feature significantly more elements, like the enhanced graphics and extra content.

I'm curious if AoI will be a fully-canon story that fits in with TotK or if it will be another non-canon side story. The history of the series suggests it's probably non-canon. And there are enough time travel shenanigans baked into the premise that it would be easy enough to make a non-canon variation on the Imprisoning War. But at the same time, there's certainly an opportunity to simply flesh out what's already there into a full-fledged canon story.

I think it might be nice to have both a canon IW campaign, and then a separate wacky HW post-game campaign wirh all the extra characters, DLC, and whatever else they want to throw in. Probably not gonna happen, but that would be my preferred scenario.

Was just browsing over on a Zelda site, and noticed the press information for AoI:

Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment is the newest title in the Hyrule Warriors series and is developed by Koei-Tecmo Games with support from Nintendo. The game features epic battles against hordes of enemies as it tells the untold story from Hyrule’s distant past of the Imprisoning War that ultimately led to the events of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. Fans of the Legend of Zelda series and players of both The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom can experience the thrill of battle and this canonical tale featuring Princess Zelda, King Rauru, and other familiar characters. Fight for Hyrule’s future when Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment comes to Nintendo Switch 2 this winter.

So I guess it is canonical.

I wonder though, if Breath of the Wild Switch 2 edition will contain an easter egg where if we look upward from high places we'll glimpse a certain dragon flying around

We can only hope. I'm remaining cautious so as not to get my hopes up, but I would definitely prefer that this be the actual events of the actual TOTK Imprisoning War instead of another "What if?" splinter timeline. AOC was still fun and cool for what it was, but many were still burned by it not being the actual events of the Calamity that Nintendo strongly implied it would be.

I'm not expecting it. TOTK implied that the reason we never saw her in BOTW was because she stayed above the cloud barrier and never descended with the other three until the time had come for Link to begin carrying out the plan that she and Rauru had prepared for him.

The video said that the only new changes to the Switch 2 versions of the games are improved graphics and loading times, with all the actual newly made content being in the Zelda Notes phone app.

I'm inclined to think that Nintendo will stick to the established events rather than pulling an Age of Calamity again. The Sages won, after all, even if some of them died.

That said, if they go full Ocarina and have Zelda send a message back to stop Ganon early, Imma laugh. Pretty sure that'd be the non-canon ending, though.

Random thought. I'm really looking forward to getting the amiibos for all the sages. (Speaking of which, don't think it's been mentioned here, but Mineru's Construct will be an additional amiibo coming later.) Having said that, Teba getting left out kinda sucks. I already had mixed feelings about his getting ditched in TotK in favor of Tulin. Having him also now be the only BotW future Champion successor who doesn't get an amiibo is really disappointing.

Of course, I'd just like to see more amiibo in general. If they made an amiibo for Link, Zelda, and Ganon(dorf) for each game they appear in, I'd get them all.
