There they go. Our new Mane 5. Off to have their own adventures out in the world. *snff* They grow up so fast.
But it's fine. It's FINE! It's not like this generation is slowly and painfully coming to a end! There's nothing that would lead us to think that!
(There they go...off into the sunset...I'm sure that doesn't signify anything!)
So, how was it?
I actually REALLY liked this one. Of the three one-shots we've gotten so far, I think this is the best one of the bunch.
Writing-wise, there's some GREAT lines in here. The plot is slightly predictable, but even then it has a few twists you might not see coming. And there's a pretty decent lesson, too. Good stuff!
Art-wise, this is also pretty great. This is the same artist who did the "Kenbucky Roller Derby" miniseries. So, the artwork is still really expressive and fun. But I honestly think she's improved since then. The chins are less sharp than before, and I think that's all the improvement she really needed. There's actually some really nice panels in this comic!
So, yeah, this is actually a top-tier pony comic. I recommend this one whole-heartedly. I think you'll have a fun time reading through this one. It's not the most substantial or meaningful story. But, it is a lot of fun. And there is a point to it. Check this one out!

"Who would be so heartless to deny ponies their commemorative New Year's photo?" Hmm...so we're looking for a pony who's recently gotten a bad hair cut, then...
Zipp's got herself a real detective office! With a swivel-chair and everything! I mean, she is a princess, I guess she can afford it.
Zipp...actually put the clues together! This early on in the book?! It's so rare that she gets to solve a real mystery! Too bad she leaped at the wrong conclusion...literally.
Hmm..someone's got dirty little paws, though. I'm keeping a eye on that Cloudpuff. Who knows, he might turn out to secretly be a werewolf or something. (I'm pretty sure this book was written with no knowledge of that leaked animatic, though.)
New Year? In the middle of the day? Do days start at noon in the pony world?

Zipp promises to not be so nosey into mysteries anymore. We'll see how long that lasts.
"Do not ask Do not ask! No more mysteries No more mysteries!" She's trying, bless her. But, the soul is weak. That lasted...about half a page or so.
"My sister's party went off without a hitch" No it didn't. Hitch was right there! *bum-dum-bum-tish*
Chrys is acting weird...and asking about what dog treats Cloudpuff likes. And there's dirty little dogprints all over her walls. Hmm..I'm not sure but...I think maybe she got a new cat.
Chrys is worried about her subscriber count. It is kind of stuck at 12 ponies. I can't help but feel like this is a metaphor for how these comics are selling.
"You're a detective, right? So, you could track a small furry animal through the forest? Theoretically?" Look, if this is your way of flirting with me, I'm flattered, but...
"Yeah, so, Cloudpuff's missing" Everything is fire. Fine. I meant fine! This is another great panel.
"Okay, it was me, I did it, I took Cloudpuff" *GASP* Who could have seen it coming? What a twist!
She was planning to DOGNAP Cloudpuff so she could find him and return him and get famous online. That's...honestly more sinister than what I was thinking. Oh the things we do for online fame!
"He's a menace! A adorably fluffy menace! " Yeah, but at least you gave him dog treats. You don't want to see him when he's hungry, trust me.
Squirrels...a dog's natural enemy. Honestly, I'm surprised they're just regular squirrels and not...bat-squirrels or kirin-squirrels or something.
