Previously, on My Little Pony...
On the one hand, I'm impressed by the commitment to the bit. On the other hand, I'm horrified at how this librarian is treating her books! Those books belong on the shelves!
They would have gotten away with it too, if it wasn't for those meddling ponies solving the mystery of...
So, how is it?
I enjoyed it. We finally get some backstory for our new ghost. So, that's appreciated. And everything wraps up fairly nicely. Even if it does feel like it wraps up a little quick. But, it's a fairly exciting ending. There are some stakes, even if they're a little forced and abrupt.
Art-wise, I like it. The artwork is expressive and well done. The Tell Your Tale style works well for this artist. This artwork is actually really good. I'd like to see this artist in the future.
So, yeah, this turned out to be a pretty solid little miniseries. I think it'll read pretty well once it's collected and you can read all of it in one go. It's a above-average pony comic. It's not as polished in some areas as some of the other miniseries we've gotten. But, it's still a fun time. If you want something kind of fun with a bit of heart, this would be a good one to pick up.

Man, what's with this generation and magic domes? Twilight's spell...this comic...okay, that's only two. But it's weird that it's happened twice!
We finally learn the ghost's name! In the final issue! It's Raneigh.
"I once had a friend who was like you all." Ah, good ol' smoothie-selling, gassy, policewoman-secretly-working-for-a-supervillain Winona. She was quite the memorable character!
Nah, her friend was really Kyren and they were both just really good at board games.
It's just weird that Raneigh was a solid shade of pale green, even when he was alive. It works as a ghost form, but as a regular pony it just kind of looks like he glows in the dark. Also weird that he always had those dark speech balloons. I thought those were reserved for villains or monsters. I guess Raneigh just had the voice like James Earl Jones or Keith David.
But now, oh no, Renaigh and Kyren are going to...compete AGAINST each other! At a board game Raneigh is no good at! The horror! And he's kind of being a jerk about it!
Anyway, Raneigh finds a ponified Lucy Loud and gets a magical Gem of Transformation! Which looks like a fireball for some reason? There's no way this magic item from a store Raneigh's never seen before could possibly backfire!
Something completely unforeseeable happens and the magic item backfires! And Raneigh becomes the ghost of the board game that we know today! And also, she atomized her friend! Consequences! They're not just for other people, anymore!
There is a bit of a problem with this though. Because, supposedly, magic was gone back when this happened. That haunted board game was supposedly in that store for years. So, that magic gem shouldn't have had any magic. But...oh well?
Yeah, if anyone could sympathize with someone who's accidentally become a supervillain, it's Misty. Instant forgiveness! The BEST kind of forgiveness!
But, oh no, Raneigh is starting to disappear! Although...the art doesn't really reflect that too much. And it's hard to tell, because he's still all ghosty. But, fine! If you say so, comic!
Hitch used vine whip! It's not very effective!
Sunny's Alicorn powers are GO! She doesn't do much, but she's a very nice night light!
Raneigh just needs to BELIEVE harder! But he CAN'T! He's beliving as hard as he can! So, Misty believes in the him that believes in himself!
Their combined power of trying REALLY hard shatters the gem. Proving once again that the REAL villain of G5 is magic rocks. Never trust a magic rock in G5 MLP! They're always a problem.
But, umm...it didn't bring back Raneigh's friend. So, I guess Kyren is just dead for good. Kind of a bold move for this comic.
So, now Raneigh is a pony out of time. Unfamiliar with this strange new world. Raneigh's still used to cassette tapes and pogs being all the rage. It's going to be quite the adjustment.
So, Raneigh joins the Manes for a game night! Just jumping right back in there? I would think that'd be too soon but...okay. Sparky turns it into a movie night, anyway. Now Raneigh can learn about this strange new technology known as...the DVD!
