It would have been amazing if they had made a MP of this Optimus design:

I kind of dig the more “manga stylized with toy elements” vibe they got going on here. Maybe it’s just refreshing after years of “G1 Sunbow 4EVAH!” We’ve been getting.
The additional influences (WFC’s shield/ax, the movie blades) are all quite novel in this sort of product. But given the sheer number of MP level Primes (not counting 3rd party), much less the quality ones Hasbro has delivered at mainstream levels, I’m hard pressed to get excited for this.

That said, I’d not be adverse to get some of the aesthetics (like the stylized head) filtered down to more mainstream releases.

Co-signed. I never cared much for strict Sunbow accuracy, so anything that injects some dynamism into these designs is welcomed.

My only objection is the likely high price. This would be an excellent Generations Prime.
That's the thing. If this new figure is going to be Siege/ER sized then I'd be down for paying $60 or so for it, maybe even a bit more to import it.
Rumour has it, though, that it's going to be going for $150 and that's too steep considering I have four versions of ER Prime as-is.

This appears to blow away ER. It just doesn't $150 blow it away. I still think Siege with new kibble would blow ER away, for Voyager money.

From what I've gathered and read, the new philosophy behind this Prime is that they want to make Masterpieces more fun to transform, a lot less intricate and fragile. I cannot stress just how much I am all for that particular design philosophy. Taking an hour to transform a toy isn't fun. Minute panel work with hinges that crack and break because the tolerances are too tight is not fun.
Making a Prime in the Masterpiece size, but giving him a good transformation that doesn't take forever, and adds some toy centric accessories (loving that Siege shield) is just an excellent way to go, IMO. I've been out of Masterpiece for some time because I just don't have time for that. Nor the money. But if this thing is priced well and that is the design philosophy behind it, then I'm going to get one. No, it doesn't look like the animation and I'm all for that too. I prefer Prime to have silver/grey legs instead of white. Please, let's have toys that are meant to be toys, not articulated, pain in the ass statues.

It leaves me lukewarm. It's got no pizzaz, no style. There's no shortage of Optimus Drawn From Memory To Look Cool. The accessories are a hodgepodge of things that feel like they just had the CAD files already open for.

This is kind of where I'm at too. There's nothing I dislike about what we can see here. But there's nothing here that makes me really want it either. The only place it would really have in my collection is in a storage tub somewhere. And as much as there's a part of me that would love to just buy up everything, even that isn't really pushing me to pick this up.

If I don't have to set aside a slot in my schedule for the week to transform the toy, then am I even really enjoying Transformers?

I was always doomed to shrug at this and pass on it, as with most Masterpieces, due to budget alone.

But so much about it has me shrugging at it BEING a Masterpiece, because this would be far more interesting as a mainline release -- and feels a lot like one anyway.
