I've always wondered how much editing it would take to turn Masterforce into something fitting Hasbro's lore. Like the Shout sub, but taken to a Macek tier extreme.

The Omni dub went as far as just flat out calling Ginrai, human and all, "Optimus Prime".

It was already cringe enough when they released reissues of Dile, Zaur, Noise, and Graphy as 'Dairu', 'Zauru', 'Noizu', and 'Gurafi'.

Eh, it's just an idea. If I had my way it would "Kayansa" or something like that. Turn the Japanese pronunciation into a whole new name.
I'm a huge MF and Victory fan, and while I get that "Cancer" is a name that can't be used in the West, I don't think that means retconning him out. The better solution, IMO, is to find a new name that still harkens back to the original.
I'm surprised Hasbro hasn't done this with the Japanese shows sooner, while the existing US G1 cast is still alive.
Since the character is Chinese, so I'd say go with his Mandarin name (Jùxiè), which does come from the Chinese name for the astrological Cancer.

I feel like Minvera would still be treated as a new character, but Shutu and Cab would very much be Quig and Lug.

Like be real for a second here: putting aside how that whole style of dub (rightfully) fell out of favor fuckin decades ago and outside of casual discussions like this one where we just speculate on what they would have to edit and change if they decided to dub these shows and get them to fit the American G1 lore and not the Japanese G1 lore...the actual audience who'd want a dub done like this is functionally non-existent and it just would be a waste of time and money to do this.
Go progressive and have Muzzle be transfeminine.

I remember back when the Shout DVD sets for the three JG1 series came out and it was discovered that nearly all the names and terms had been westernized and random lines of dialogue had been rewritten to throw in totally-out-of-place references to Aligned and IDW1.
At that time, I expressed my great displeasure over how Hasbro (though, I have suspicions that it was probably more specifically Rik Alvarez) had changed and rewritten the subtitle scripts to be so inaccurate and unfaithful to the original dialogue.
And what kind of response did I get from other users both on this board and other boards? 90% people basically telling me to shut up and stop being such a whiny weeb and just be glad and grateful that we got these DVD sets at all, because nobody actually really cares about the original Japanese stuff anyway.

As someone that does enjoy the original Japanese stuff; I also can't say those people are wrong. I feel like most people don't really care about the Japanese stuff,beyond maybe just collecting the toys they never got. It feels like BW2 and BWN get MUCH more attention and Respect then JG1 stuff.
The thing is, the majority of these responses came from people who, in other posts, were thrilled that these DVD sets we're being released in the US. If they were that excited, they had to have had some care about those shows.
I think you're mistaking "care that they exist at all" vs "Care about getting an actual accurate translation and/or dub" I feel like people are more willing to accept a subpar sub, then they are a bad dub.
Something similar, I remember back in Combiner Wars toyline, that I didn't like the Armada Megatron remold they put out; but got told that "IF i like Armada I should buy it anyways, because its likely all we'll get." Sometimes fans care more that something exists, and not how good or accurate it is; when its something that's uncommon or rare.
Maybe I'm just a weeb but I think MF and Victory are some of the best G1 era shows out there. And I'll always take Headmasters over the Rebirth.
I think The Headmasters is a boring slog of a show that is like 100% better if you watch the Omni dub over the original Japanese version with subtitles (because at least the dub is funny).
But also I'd still rather watch it over The Rebirth because at least it's a full show and not just three episodes.
