This must be the new "wings up/wings down" debate.
It's not perfect, but I tried...
So Gen Selects Super Megatron is fun!
He scratches four distinct itches for me.
First, he's G1 Megatron's ultimate form from JG1, and I am a JG1 weeb.
Secondly, he's got some IDW Megatron vibes, doesn't he? Like... it's clearly not the overt aspect of his aesthetic, but he leans into it a bit.
Thirdly, he's also got some Animated Megatron flavouring. Having a flying alt mode that has a giant gun for a nosecone helps, but it's also apparent in the chest and head detailing. This and the above point make sense, because I'm pretty sure DJW, Alex Milne, and Nick Roche are all on record saying they took some hints from Super Megatron for their Megs takes.
Finally, Super Megatron kinda reminds me of Bayverse Megatron? He's got a spiky robot mode, an alien jet alt mode (07), an alien tank alt mode (RotF), and even a battle mask with tusks (TLK). He works as Bayverse Megatron through a G1 filter, IMO.
Also, due to how he works you can customize him however you want between the various options for all of his modes. This isn't an official configuration, but I think it's my preference.

I actually was going to use my Generations Drift until I remembered that I actually had RiD '15 Drift in storage. So I got him out and gave Generations Drift's sword to Sideswipe for the sake of the pic.
He was my absolute favorite Megatron toy, the only reason I don't have it now is everything went nuts for a year and I had to clear some stuff out. I admit, I used an Autobot reprolabel on one side of his chest to have an easy faction-swap for shelf fun! He was the best 'roll your own' Megatron ever made!
I wonder if Megatron will get next year's titan slot and be Super Megatron, it would make sense for Optimus's arch enemy to get that, the Gen select Super Megatron is a great retool of a avarge at best Galvatron figure as they pretty much went wild on that retool, a new head, new chest, new shoulders, new arms and the cannon, plus the back, if it wasn't for the legs, he would pretty much be a completely new figure, thou I guess that might of inspired the parts sharing that the WTC trilogy & legacy OP figures had
He really is! He's every Megatron, one way or another! That faction swap idea is neat.
I expect a new Super Megatron at some point, because yeah the Selects one won't look right next to the Titan Star Convoy. Still, I'm happy I have this one. He's just so versatile.
Heh, unless we consider Super Megatron to be so unbelievably overpowered that Optimus literally had to become Titan-sized in order to attain the amount of power necessary to fight Super Megatron evenly.
"Megatron, how did you ever defeat that Titan-sized Prime?!"

"Oh. Oh...well...that would do it, yes..."
-Swindle would spice it up a LOT for a later comic book deal.
