I wish Perceptor had come with Rewind instead of Ratbat (if only to complete the Movie roster of Blaster's cassettes after Eject and Steeljaw); Ratbat could've come with SS86 Soundwave. Unless this distribution was decided on before making an SS86 Soundwave was.
The Rewind mould is apparently part of the Blaster/Twincast mould. So chances are we're not getting an opaque Rewind unless they do... like... Comics Blaster or something.

I'm struggling with this new Perceptor, I appreciate the remolding and didn't get the first one, and like the stronger teal colour, but wish they had done this up as more of a toy deco. They couldn't at least use silver paint for the chrome bits?

That's not what Studio Series is about, though.

Don't know if this is the right thread for this as there isn't a Toy Fair thread but people are talking about non-AOTP stuff in here as well.

While I love this, the colors and swords are great, it's also far from accurate with the cone head shins and Ramjet's thrusters.

Glad the ground trooper got a fair share of retooling, particularly for the var mode.

And lol, I think by this time the ship has sailed on "greedy money-grabs". We haven't even seen what the SS86 Soundwave is going to be.
Because usually, we get remolded figures from the 'main' line in SS line and vice-versa. Now, we're getting slightly remolded SS figures in SS. Not cool.

I mean, it is a Studio Series toy, so I don't see why not we use the Studio Series thread.

Why the hell anyone would think they'd blow money on retooling a tiny Pretender shell NOW is beyond me.
Pretenders are the one G1 gimmick that just can't be brought back in a modern line.
Like... this team has done Combiners (twice), Headmasters, Targetmasters, Micromasters, the tape deck/cassette stuff... this is not a team afraid of nostalgia. So the fact that we haven't really gotten Pretenders done as full on Pretenders is telling. It isn't workable.

Some people... hell most people... recognize this and are ok with it. Others are... less so.

I have two issues with him. 1: He breaks pattern with the others. He's not a combination of his robot mode and Shell. Though I get that unlike the others, his Shell wasn't his primary appearance... it still irks my OCD. 2. I wish he had be remolded enough to remove the headmaster function. I agree that if they'd given him a new "prime master" shell for his head, I would probably like this better. Since even if he can't be a full pretender, letting his headmaster be one would be an acceptible replacement for me.

A lot of people have wished the Headmaster gimmick was removed and I absolutely DO NOT get it. It's an EXTRA play feature. It's more toy and better IMO. Heck I'd rather Headmasters were added to every toy ever than taken away from a toy that already had it.

I wish that toy didn't light up, or have an accessory figure or a firing weapon is a weird idea to me. Headmaster partners are great and imo there's no negative to them. You get another character and toy for free.

-ZacWilliam, who cares if the character wasn't a HM in the 80s it's a good gimmick. Let everyone be headmasters ever. Why not.

If you really love Headmasters, I can see that point of view. But not everyone loves Headmasters. They fundamentally limit the sort of head shapes and sizes a bot can have, which is often one of their most uniquely defining traits, so it can be a huge turn-off aesthetically. And practically, it's a tiny figure that can easily be lost, leaving the larger bot headless... which is slightly less than ideal.

Setting those aside, it's also extra tooling, complexity, and assembly required for what would otherwise be a really simple part of the end product. All of that eats up budget, which otherwise could have been spent elsewhere on the figure.

So no, it's definitely not just more of everything good with no negatives. It's like anything else. It can be a net positive, negative, or neutral depending on the execution.

Some great new figures but also several disappointments, including:

- Crasher (just a re-release).
are you seriously complaining about hasbro rereleasing a figure that was store-exclusive (and, here in the US, BARELY fuckin showed up in stores at all here along with the entire rest of its wave) as a mass-retail release a few years down the line?

yeah, hasbro wanting more people to be able to have the chance to find this figure, so disappointing.

I'd be fine with G1 Headmasters not getting de-Headmastered. But I also don't have a problem with TR Headmasters getting de-Headmastered. I can see the appeal and wouldn't really begrudge their existence for others who can maximize the play value and experience. But it's not for me.

If I'm gonna get an extra figure and extra play feature and whatnot, I'd rather that come in the form of a partner Mini-Con. Turns into something that's not a box with the front of a face, doesn't hamstring the design of the bot with the need for a full-size opening cockpit or canopy, one less detach point for transformation. Too expensive? Okay, don't do it at all then, understandable. Spend that tooling money on something else.

And the last decade of so of light and sound gimmicks largely being priced out of mainline toys has been a net positive, I feel. Less need to design around electronics, spend that tooling money on something else.

I'm fine with Carnivac and Topspin continuing to include their Titan Masters. But I wouldn't bemoan their loss if they got retooled out.

Also it's Transformers. A figure was re-released? The shock and horror.

It happens all the time. It's a necessity in the economics of the toy business.
At least Hasbro made it work for them by using it to get a limited release a more wide-reaching second go.
There's been a lot of that in Legacy United and AOTP, and it's only been a good thing.

If someone doesn't need it the simplest thing to do is take the breather and not buy it. No point in being "disappointed" in a rerelease. Maybe it's not FOR you, you know? Go buy one of the hundred other things that are getting released. Or a better personality.

I think that first issue is why I've largely been meh on Carnivac as a Weirdwolf retool.

I really grew to appreciate the POTP shells, especially when the Metalhawk retool of Trigger-happy got made. Having the Deluxe and the Pretender shell for the Titan Master was an interesting little mix. And of course all the shells together looked great, enough that I customized up some new ones for the four Prime Masters that came with the Throne.

But I'm not going to expect Hasbro to spend on additional retooling to make such a shell for such a narrow-scope release, let alone get disappointed when this unlikely thing doesn't happen. As much as I'd love to see it (and a Snarler).

Either way, glad this is getting made, and Horri-bull soon to follow in that Target 4-pack with Animated Nemesis Prime (wish we were closer to finding out who the remaining two in it were).
