Since we’re a good 2-3 months from significant new toy news (Toy Fair in March), and anywhere from 2-5 months until AotP stuff actually starts to arrive in mailboxes of average consumers….I was kind of “thinking through“ the potential direction of this “Age of the Primes” Trilogy (assuming Hasbro is going to continue along the same kind of structure they’ve been following since Combiner Wars).
Here’s some trends I’m leaning towards:
2026 is the Beast Wars 30th Anniversary, and Nate (I think?) from marketing made a sly comment at NYCC referring to the upcoming 30th Anniversary while Emily was discussing an upcoming GI Joe Classified Polar Bear figure/accessory. Studio Series is well equipped to handle most of the 86 movie anniversary initiatives, so I expect as much overlap as we saw with Kingdom. I think I’ll do a big thread about that seperately, but in terms of the Generations line:
Age of the Primes: Uprising (2026)-
“Heeding the call of the Primes, Transformers from across the universe return to Cybertron. But these new Generations seek a new direction and launch the UPRISING”. Story gist is that, with the OG Primes being revived, it brings successive Generations of Transformers back to Cybertron. Being the 30th Anniversary of Beast Wars, I’m hoping for a similar spread as we got with Kingdom (and I suspect new figures will pull from the cartoon). Mark’s comments indicate that they’ll be finishing the 13 here as well, so that means Amalgamous, Nexus, Quintus and Liege Maximo will be on tap. The latter two also bring in things like the G2 Cybertronian Empire and Quintessons into the mix (potentially).
Here are some of my guesses, keeping in mind that the numerous retailer capsules and Generations Selects ensures a LOT more spots are in the mix-
Deluxe: Quintus Prime, Transmetal Cheetor, BW Quickstrike, Rescue Bots Quickshadow (Decepticharge alternate)
Voyager: Vehicon Jetstorm, Armada Scavenger (RB Boulder shared), Polar Claw,
Leader: Transmetal Megatron (yesss), Leige Maximo,
Commander: Amalgamous Prime (pre-tool of Sixshot)
Titan: Optimal Optimus
Age of the Primes: Champions (2027)
”Weakened by the uprising, Cybertron must assemble a new council of Primes to fight against the revived Unicron, and his Knights of Chaos”. At this point, depending on the prior line’s selections and the brand as a whole, this could be a good “core heavy” line to get some major characters back in circulation. Story wise, after the Uprising is settled, Unicron is revealed to have been revived as well, and launches an assault with his Knights of corrupted Cybertronians. The Primes decides to grant their power to new bearers. I think it’s easiest to just get the characters together at this stage than try and guess price points. I don’t think it likely or pragmatic for ALL of the new bearers or knights to have toys in this year, or even all in the mainline. But between reissues and exclusives, I think most can get covered. I AM having issues finding some Predacons to fill out the Prime team, though…
Cybertron Champions-
Prima- Optimus Prime (Powermaster, assuming it doesn’t end up HasLab. Other options include Transtech or a comic inspired version)
Amalgamous- Sixshot
Nexus- Computron
Vector Prime- Optimus Primal (Transmetal? Beast Machines? Cybertron?)
Alpha Trion- Soundbyte
The Fallen- Megatron (IDW)
Liege Maximo- Starscream (I’ll argue that a Transtech take is possible as a retool of Vehicon Jetstorm
Onyx- Dinobot (Transmetal 2)
Quintus- Botanica
Solus- Rhinox
Micronus- Bumblebee
Alchemist- Proxima
Thirteenth- Rodimus Prime
Knights of Unicron-
Galvatron (Beast Wars 2)
Thunderwing
Torca (Corrupted Maximal General, plays to both the original BW toy AND the BWNeo use of the design as a Unicron minion)
Razorclaw (Tigerhawk redeco)
Armada Sideways
Shockaract (Selects redeco of a retail Leader Rampage)
With that Titan that year being a new Unicron. Beast Wars Neo inspired.
So…thoughts on all THAT?
