Okay I am truly excited for this it’s a beautiful set. And we get target masters that match the others what’s not to love.

I know the Legacy Targetmasters weren't great but there's a lot of detail in their sculpts and they're shockingly fun to play around with, mounting them here, there, and everywhere.

And seeing as I have Legacy Needlenose and Legacy Quake... yeah. I need to pick up a Diaclone Topspin and Spinister's Targetmasters. The extra Spinister is nice I guess. It's good to have spare parts laying around.

I really do like this set. I just don't have a need for Spinister's targetmasters as I have the set that came with the TFSS Thunder Mayhem set. Also, I haven't been collecting the Diaclone repaints so I don't really have a need for Topspin.

There's some backstory there.
FunPub asked Hasbro if they could name the FFoD guys. Hasbro said yes. Then Jim Sorenson swept in and named them all in The AllSpark Almanac II, which Hasbro apparently rubber stamped without giving it a thorough read through.

FunPub protested and Hasbro just shrugged and said "eh it's already done 🤷🏻‍♂️" and told FP they had to use Jim's names.

There were a few former FP peeps that were actually peeved at Hasbro going with the Sunbow head for AotP, seeing it as Jim being rewarded for his skeevy behaviour.
Sorry to bump an old post... But hey, it got me to re-register after all this time

The overall vibe of this comment is in fact correct. Jim Sorenson and Fun Pub were both working on competing things at the same time, completely by coincidence. And the first to print ended up influencing the other entity.

Jim used the blue and orange color scheme from "U-Haulbot" (as he'd been previously known for almost 30 years) as a jumping off point to start naming the FFoD characters as a fun bonus in Almanac 2. This being due to the color scheme matching the Animated character's color as well as his being Optimus' predecessor mirroring events in the Marvel comics. So U-Haulbot became Sentinel Prime. And then other characters in those flashbacks started getting names as well, becoming other early Primes or Decepticon leaders from the comics.

Meanwhile, Fun Pub were being a little more direct with their porting Animated Sentinel Prime into G1. Wingsverse was about to introduce Sentinel Prime as a high-ranking member of the G1-version of the Elite Guard... Right when Jim's book was released. Jim and Fun Pub exchanged emails about it and in the end, Fun Pub decided to change their Sentinel Prime to Sentinel Major before their comic hit print.

That was about the extent of it. I can't recall Hasbro getting involved but if they had, it's likely they'd have shrugged it off and had Jim and Fun Pub sort it out themselves anyway. Or, also likely, they'd have Fun Pub change it to "Sentinel Major" regardless as this was the timeframe when they were extremely on-guard with the "Prime" name for trademark reasons.

Anyway, I then deliberately wrote Sentinel Major as not being Sentinel Prime, but part of that same lineage. Doing so as a nod to Lt. Dan from Forrest Gump where every Sentinel fought and perished in a Cybertronian war). As for Prima Prime and the rest of the (re)names, neither Fun Pub nor myself had plans to actually involve ourselves in writing about the other 13 Primes before the final story arcs in the Club Comic. So Hasbro requesting us use the names that Jim had created never had an opportunity to come up.

I just wanted to clear that up so that there didn't appear to be any bad blood between Jim, Fun Pub, or Hasbro, or whoever. In fact, Jim and I spent a good 30 minutes reminiscing and remind each other how things had gone down in advance of me posting this.

It's all good! More info is always welcome :) I never worked with FunPub, only knowing some people who did. So any info I post that's related to that sort of thing is passing through at least two people, maybe three, before it hits the screen.

That being said... I will stand up for this...

While I have no doubt that you and Jim don't have any ill feelings on this, I was told this by someone who worked with FP in the past and still knows many of the people involved. I'm not looking to start internet drama, lord know no one needs that, but that tidbit is true as best as I can tell, as I trust the people who would know who told me.

So Fun Pub didn't ever have any plans of their own to give names to the past Autobot leaders seen in the "Five Faces of Darkness, Part 4" flashback sequence?

Hiya!

Nope, nothing ever solidified in that regard. I glanced at the purple Wreck-Gar looking Decepticon a few times, but no plans to include him in a story ever really happened.
