Introducing TMMN Archive!

This is an ongoing game history preservation project I've decided to undertake in the interest of preserving the various press releases and other related materials from over the years.

Kicking things off is the official press release for Mega Man 8!

My hope is that they can get Ian on Classic, since he's freelance.

Also I guess I need to throw some money at at least a couple of these Jada guys if I want them to eventually get to Air Man...

If comics is what it takes to finally resolve Legends 2's ending, so be it. A game would be best, but it's been squashed too many times to have any faith in it ever happening.

Yeaaaaaaaaah, I was going to do this someday. Ever since I warned others not to. Am actually currently sick, so to make myself happy:
(Also I've always typed it MegaMan rather than Mega Man. Sorry about that if it bugs you.)

MegaMan
Played on NES

The game that started it all. It took me a while to actually get this one in the series when I started to collect it.
It's... just not very good, but it was the first. It was very obviously rough around the edges.

I'm ashamed to admit I've only ever beaten it while using the pause damage trick.

Rating D. Not horrible, but honestly I have little desire to play through it again.

MegaMan 2
Played on NES

Overhyped honestly. It's a fine game, but it lacks later upgrades that to me are DEFINING MegaMan abilities.
Still a rather good game though, with great music.

Rating B

MegaMan 3
Played on NES

TECHNICALLY my first MegaMan game ever, but I only got to play like one stage at my friend's house. On a small black and white TV.
I enjoy it as it gives me my slide ability. The Doc Robot stages were a neat idea. Does feel a little on the unpolished side though.

Rating C

MegaMan 4
Played on NES

Honestly I don't have much to say about this one. You got the Megabuster and otherwise it's pretty average.

Rating C

MegaMan 5
Played on NES

THIS was actually the first MegaMan game I really played, and the first one I ever owned. I paid five bucks for it waaaaaaaaay back in 95 or something from a Warehouse video rental store. I love this game, but I'm likely biased because it was my first. All in all though I find the experience rather solid.

Rating B+

MegaMan 6
Played on NES

So I was a fan before this game got released over here in America, because I remember people pointing out that Toys R Us had it new in box. I was SO damn excited to play this game. It was neat buying a brand new NES MegaMan game and getting to play it, and honestly I don't mind this game at all. The Rush Jet armor is great!

Rating: B-? I wouldn't say it beats out 2 or 5, but it's solid enough.

MegaMan 7
Played on SNES

Managed to snag a copy of this from a mom and pop video rental store that was selling off their old SNES games. (Also picked up Soul Blazer, B.O.B. and one or two others I can't remember. Don't have B.O.B. anymore though)

Man what a graphic upgrade! Also Bass is around now!

Frankly I love this game. I love that you get a version of the Rush Jet in it as well. I wish that'd come back.

Also this game is by FAR the HARDEST Wily boss in any of these games for me.

Rating A

MegaMan 8
Played on PS1

What I would give to have a freaking copy of the Saturn version! I've wanted to fight Woodman and Cutman for YEARS now.

Other then the really annoying "JUMP JUMP SLIDE SLIDE" sections, I rather enjoy this game. I also just really love that the Robot Masters talk to you. Tengu man is in fact my favorite Robot Master ever!

"Kid, you're hardly worth the effort!" *lands, cool blades come out*

Rating A-

Rockman and Forte/MegaMan and Bass
Played on emulator, SNES using a trick to get it to play on American consoles. (A little GBA)

Even on an emulator with save states, getting that Groundman CD was a pain in the butt.

It's a pretty neat little game, and HEY Tengu Man is back!

Super Famicon/Rom is the way to go though. Playing as Bass I'd rather have a button designated to his dash rather then ONLY being able to double tap. I've never been good at that double tap to run/dash stuff.

Rating C

MegaMan 9
Played on Wii Ware/ Xbox 360

It was great having a new MegaMan game after so long, but I hate HATE they tried to model it after MM2. I want my slide and Charge shot! No Protoman doesn't count because it comes with the VERY BIG DOWNSIDE of taking twice as much damage, and twice the knock back. (I had hoped maybe getting no helmet would make him like MegaMan, but no it does the same thing as it does for MegaMan and DOUBLES the ALREADY DOUBLED knockback and damage. You did Protoman dirty Capcom.

It's still pretty solid. I love some of the music, but man I want that slide at the very least.

Might get bonus points for Splash Woman. It was just nice to finally have a girl join the fighting.

Rating B

MegaMan 10
Played via Xbox 360 Download

I've played through this once, don't think I ever did as Bass despite the fact I want to. It's pretty much the personification of 'average' It's just okay. Also BOO Boo on not ever doing another female Robot Master. Splash Woman shouldn't be the only one ever.

Rating C

MegaMan 11
Played via Switch

Man the trailer had me hyped. The double gear system is a neat little addition. Only played through it once. Didn't hate it.

Rating C

MegaMan in Dr. Wily's Revenge
Played via Super Gameboy

Actually got this in box by helping a friend do yard work all day. Remember it being a decent run.

Rating B

MegaMan II Gameboy
Played via Super Gameboy

I remember it was short.

Rating C

MegaMan III Gameboy
Played via Super Gameboy

I've beaten it, but don't recall too much. Really wish we'd get a collection of these for modern systems.

Rating C

MegaMan IV Gameboy
Played via Super Gameboy

Again don't remember much. Just that it was portable MegaMan and made decent enough.

Rating C

MegaMan V
Played via Super Gameboy

The one everyone wants and for good reason. It's a neat NEW adventure with NEW boss fights. An all around great time.

Rating A

MegaMan Soccer
Played via SNES

Yeah so I'm not a sports person. Only played this cuz MegaMan. It's eh. Kinda annoyed they left the ending not programed to trigger.

Rating D

MegaMan in the Wily Wars.
Played via Genesis Classic

Didn't get too far in this, though I really want to. I also got the Limited Run Physical release of this so I can play it on my actual Genesis if I so desire.

Rating TBD (To be determined)

Rockman Battle and Fighters
Played a bit on a non color Neo Geo Pocket which I had to sell years ago.

I have this complete in box. It was neat from what little I played. I've been meaning to buy an actual Neo Geo Pocket Color so I can really enjoy it.

Rating TBD

There are other sorta classic series games like Rockboard, but these are what I've played.

(Also I've always typed it MegaMan rather than Mega Man. Sorry about that if it bugs you.)

Technically, it's both.

It's "Mega Man" in titles ("Mega Man 2," "Mega Man X," "Mega Man Battle Network," etc.), and for most of the heroes in the main timeline who bear the name...

...until you get to Mega Man Legends, where the hero's name is MegaMan Volnutt. Similarly, due to the way file names were/are, the one from Mega Man Battle Network is "MegaMan.EXE," or "MegaMan" for short. And the hero from Star Force, set later in that timeline, follows the same.

Does feel a little on the unpolished side though.

Probably because it was unfinished.

What I would give to have a freaking copy of the Saturn version! I've wanted to fight Woodman and Cutman for YEARS now.

Big same.

Don't sleep on Power Battle and Power Fighters.

Kinda surprised by the low score of Mega Man IV. I think it's right up there with V, with the main difference being that V was wholly-original.

I liked 10 more than 9, if I'm being honest.

Not sure I knew about Proto Man taking quadruple damage from not wearing a helmet, though. Dang.

That feature sucks, anyway. Costs way too much, and IIRC, you lose it when you die, yeah? Plus the damage thing... man, I just want to play as these guys without their helmets on, I don't need a whole rules change, too.

Weird on MM&B on SNES not letting you dash with A. I seem to remember that it would let you, and checking GameFAQs seems to back that up.

You know what's funny? I've actually played Power Battle IN the Arcade. Chalk it up to being sick to forget that. I'll update this list later. It's pretty good. I do have them on one of the old collections as well.

Five was my first so it's that high a rating. 4 is below it, but this is also a time where I haven't played these games in like 20 years. If I had time to sit down and play through them all again, I might have different ratings.

Oh wait you mean the Gamboy title don't you? Still kinda same issue. I haven't played through them in decades so I don't recall much about them. So I gave most an average rating unless I remembered more about them. Which is basically only the first one and Five.
I liked 10 more than 9, if I'm being honest.
*shrugs* We're opposites there.

Well it never came out on the SNES aka never got an overseas release. Maybe on the Pal side of things, but not in America. That's why I said SUPER FAMICOM/Rom is the way to play it. The Dash thing I'm referring to is on the GBA. Since only two buttons. The only way to dash with Bass on that platform is to do the double tap. You can't assign the dash to a shoulder button sadly. I tried.

Sorry, that's what I meant. Rockman & Bass on SFC. (There have been translation hacks and the like...)

But yeah, on GBA, there was only double-tap. Gotcha.

I actually played through it first with the translation that had Proto man yell HADOKEN!

If I could think more clearly, I'd likely have mentioned the many OTHER problems the GBA port has.
