The 2024 Us Presidential Election Thread

So what we learned from this election is basically this.
The Dems would rather hand the election to their opponents rather than vote for an imperfect candidate (or maybe just a woman)
The Republicans will gladly vote for people who openly work against their interests, and believe in a man who told them the same lies that he told them the first time he failed to make anything better.

Awesome. I always said that purity politics were the dems biggest problem I just didn't imagine they would doom the country over it.

Combine that with the fact that she wasn't even properly nominated, and you have a recipe for low voter turnout.
I really hate this line. Everyone knew if something happened to Biden she would take over. There really wasn't any time to go through a whole primary given how late he dropped out. If you were going to vote for Biden knowing that if something happened we would have President Harris then it makes no sense to balk at just voting for President Harris when something happened to Biden

It cannot be underestimated just what level of CATASTROPHIC damage a Republican Trifecta with Supreme Court oversight will inflict on the nation and spill over to the rest of the world.

*The ACA? Gone. Won't last a year. They don't need a concept of anything to replace it & they never will.
*Legal abortion? Done for. The token state-level protections won't survive the national ban that's certainly coming.
*Gaza & Ukraine? Both leveled. And conflict will spill further across the regions. Netanyahu & Putin now know they will not be stopped.
*LGBT/Civil Rights? Decapitated. cases are already cued up to topple Obergfell. Once Donald puts in his other Justices that won't come back for close to a CENTURY...
*with RFKJr in charge of Health that likely means no more vaccine mandates- on top of childhood maladies becoming full on plagues that probably ALSO means no new COVID boosters so whatever tenuous hold we had on that pandemic is out the window.
*Separation of Church & State? Toast. Future graduating classes will know more about the Ten Commandments then the periodic tables.
*Social Security & Medicare? Gutted. More kickbacks in their pockets; no handouts for THE POOR.
*Tariffs and mass deportations will make Dubya's Great Recession seem like a pleasant windfall.

And the Democrats have NOBODY to fight back with. Biden's done for, Bernies' just as old and useless, Harris will never work again and any members of the so-called "Progressive Squad" will get just as trounced for just the same reason.

If you're able to escape; if you can help others get out- do so. Because as of yesterday the American Experiment is essentially over.

"Let the months and years come; they can take nothing more from me..."

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

State trials won't move forward even if they have the means and rights to do it. Trump will threaten those states with cut funding or worse unless they stop.

Trump got around the same number of votes. Harris was shy about 20 million from Biden.

From what I've seen online there are at least two possibilities for this.

Option one is that the Democrat base wasn't as on board with the installed candidate as was hoped, so they didn't turn out to vote.

The second possibility is that there were 81m votes last election but were not necessarily 81m registered voters and that wasn't as easy to duplicate this time around.

What are other possible factors to consider?

In my area, it was 100% turnout(though I am in a red state, so it wouldn't have made a huge difference). Remember how I said I saw a 25% turnout earlier? I just looked at the 2020 results. IN 2020 we had over a 65% turnout locally, down to 25% this election. And this year we actually had 5% more total registered voters, so it wasn't people getting purged.

People just didn't go vote.

Seeing as we are living in an absurd nightmare we might as well have fun with it.
Biden should wait until mid December and then resign, making Harris the 47th president.
You know that the Trumpers will have been printing up and buying all this 47 merch with Trumps ugly mug on it. Ruin that shit by making him 48 instead.

Maybe campaigning with Liz Cheney *wasn't* a good idea.

Still, AOC vs. Vance in 2028 is gonna be a wipeout…

I always thought that AOC might be the first female president. However, she has had years of the right just demonizing her, that I doubt she could pull it off now.
