If you’ve been around the fandom for a hot minute or two, you might remember the Heroes of Cybertron figure line from the early aughts. You know, these guys: Image via TFWiki, in case the watermark didn’t tip you off. Well, some stirrings in the community lately have unearthed some details from long ago — the extreme late ’90s! — that reveal the line might have been a little different from what we know. Over in our forums, NovaSaber unearthed an old Hasbro interview from the Philadelphia International ToyExpo ’99, which talked about the then-upcoming line, as well as other things, such as the yet-to-be-revealed Beast Machines and Animorphs lines. Unfortunately, the Internet Archive version of the interview, which was originally hosted on an AOL website, was no longer displaying the images (don’t you just hate that?). However, thanks to some folks from the TFWiki Discord and Sabrblade bringing it to us here, it would seem that the interview was archived to another website, which was then archived on the Internet Archive, with pics intact! With the interest of preserving these for future generations of fans, check ’em out: According to the interview, “If these were to be made they wouldn’t transform at all. They would be more along the lines of the Spawn line but with greater articulation and weapons.” Heroes of Cybertron wouldn’t see life in the west until 2002, and even then, they were effectively domesticated imports of Takara’s Super Collection Figure: Transformers line. As a result, it’s hard to say if there was any sort of collaboration involved in bringing these to life, or if Hasbro simply slapped an old label for a concept they had lying around onto a product Takara made that was close enough to the original concept. The toy business, am I right? In another part of the interview, the unnamed Hasbro representative seemed almost prescient when they said “I would love to make a scale model Devastator [about 2 foot high. (he made a hand gesture for the size)] I think it would make a great exclusive.” 16 years later, though he wasn’t exclusive and came in six inches shy of the mark, we nevertheless did get a Titan Class Devastator. If you’d like to read the full interview for yourself, direct your browser over to this link. And if you’d like to talk about this, or share any other ancient Transformers online ephemera, then head over to the “A trip down memory lane TF websites from the past” thread in our forums! He's got no need for friends, even less for enemies, better use that spot on your collection for Transformers Studio Series 86-07 Leader Dinobot Slug & Daniel Witwicky reissue is now live on Hasbro Pulse, BigBadToyStore and everywhere where fine toys are sold. It's no secret that the Dinobots have been a weird bag for everyone, as they've been a centerpiece in a lot of people's collections but also tend to dissappear in mere instants, but thankfully one of the most prominent, the flamethrower slug gets another go, as he's put up for pre-order and even in stock in certain places, coming in at the Leader-class and teaming up with Daniel (totally not a retool a of Wheelie) so everyone has more chances of getting their Dinobots team closer to completion. Don't forget to get yours through: BigBadToyStore, Hasbro pulse, This is what you call a midknight launch. Had your fill of new Transformers news yet? Of course you haven’t! That’s why you’re here, right? Let’s see if this whets your appetite for an hour or two. First up is the latest of the Takara Tomy Transformers Masterpiece Trainbots, Doctor Yellow, who is now listed at the Takara Tomy Mall! Per the website, you can expect this beauty to pull into the station in Late October of 2024, and a ticket will cost you 23,650 yen, or about $158.46 USD as of this writing. Further information goes on to say (via Google Translate): Elsewhere, on the world of Cybertron, we’ve got some new pics from Hasbro PR of the upcoming release of Transformers Legacy United Origin Wheeljack (try saying that five times fast). In addition to the packaging and expected vehicle mode pic, we can also see that Jackie’s (can I call this version of him that? It was more of a Prime thing, but still) armor/piece of Cybertronian road can add another slash to that, as it can form up as wings on his back, and that’s a fact! The price for this long-awaited final piece of the More Than Meets The Eye Part 1 Autobot trio will run you a cool $34.99 USD when he touches down on Earth this Spring. Inquire at your local retailer about the current Shanix conversion rate. Speaking of Wheeljack (as we often are), we finally have some pics from an eBay seller named “Transmimi” that not only show us what the upcoming toon-accurate version of the Autobots’ answer to Doc Brown will look like, but also how he compares to the version from Transformers: War For Cybertron: Earthrise version! That’s actually only a small sample of all the pics they’ve got in their eBay listing, where the item sits at $40 USD and no bids, which honestly isn’t a bad deal. At least, if you own everyone else in the 5-pack and gotta get your ‘Jack on, because you just know the whole thing is probably going to be close to triple-digits, at least. Feeling jacked for ‘Jack? Or have the wheels fallen off this release, as far as your concerned. Not to keep railing on about it, but you can head on over to the “Transformers Legacy Toyline” thread in our forums! There is a very interesting test shot for the recent Walmart reissue Starscream currently on eBay. As is typical for test shots, the colors are very far from the final toy, possibly chosen at random. What’s fun about this one is it could easily be some generic background Seeker’s proper color scheme, and I dare say it doesn’t look half bad. See this auction for more details or to place a bid. And if you happen to be the lucky winner, tell us what name you give this Seeker. If you are reading this in the future, see the archived page instead. Sad news fellow Transformers fans. Coming in from the AP branch in Oregon, beloved Autobot leader Optimus Prime has revealed he has finally gone totally blind after years of macular-circut degeneration. When questioned, the Autobot's chief medical officer Ratchet noted that Prime's quality of life had not decreased and he will still continue his duties as usual. In response, Decpticon leader only responded "Where is the Allspark?" which was then followed by "CRUSH THE AUTOBOTS." The Decepticon then laughed and turned into a helicopter before proceeding to fly away. Our photographers were able to capture on film the Autobot Leader attempting to adjust to the duties of leadership without the use of his optics. Will he be able to ever wrangle the mischievous Bumblebee? Follow us on X, Facebook and join our Discord to keep up to date on the new challenges facing Optimus!

Word is making the rounds today that José Delbo has passed away at the age of 90, due to causes unknown. For those unfamiliar, Delbo was a prolific Argentine artist whose work spanned a wide range, most notably in comics. These include such titles as Superman, Batman, Aquaman, and Green Arrow, as well as adaptations of television shows into the format, such as The Thundercats, The Twilight Zone, The Brady Bunch, Hogan’s Heroes, Buck Rogers, The Monkees, and The Mod Squad. Of course, we wouldn’t be talking about him in this space were it not for his contributions to Transformers. Specifically, he did covers and interior art for a number of issues throughout the original Marvel comics run in the ’80s. To that end, his pen has touched stories ranging from “Club Con!”, “Monstercon from Mars!”, and “The Interplanetary Wrestling Championship!” to “Yesterday’s Heroes!”, “Deadly Obsession”, and “Rhythms of Darkness!”, among many others. After issue #67, he would go on to work on other titles, including Brute Force and Captain Planet and the Planeteers. In the 1990s, he became a teacher at The Kubert School until 2005. Per artist Steve Lieber, “I met him in my first year at the Kubert school. A great teacher- funny, smart, and unwilling to accept any less than our best effort. ‘Mr. Lieber, your horse looks like a dog. Go home and work.’ I will, José. Thank you.” According to another industry professional, Mark Evanier (whose blog informed us of Delbo’s passing), “José was a charming gentleman and a dedicated craftsman. We could use more like him.” In 2013, he was the recipient of an Inkpot Award at San Diego Comic-Con International. At the dawn of the 2020s, his career would take him in another direction: the blockchain. According to the man himself via his website, “My career took an important turn in July of 2020 when I released my first piece of digital art on the blockchain in the form of a 43 page original digital comic book called Death. Since then, I have had the pleasure of continuing to create pieces of digital art.” He did pretty well for himself in his final years, as according to an article from The LA Times, Delbo became a millionaire through the emerging technology. If you’re interested in finding out more about Delbo’s work, you can check out his Wikipedia page, his official website, and of course, his entry on TFWiki (which also notes some interesting quirks of his from his run in the book). All Transformers-related imagery in this article via TFWiki.

People around the world — or at least the United States, it kinda varies and frays a bit the further out you get — will be hyping themselves up for “The Big Game” on Sunday, February 11th. As it turns out, that hype even extends to those from the planet Cybertron, as Autobot leader Optimus Prime and Terrorcon leader Scourge get in on the action in a recent ad promoting the event on Paramount Plus: You’d think a guy with an internal fiery glow like Scourge would already be all fired up, but, well… Side note: You’d also think an ad like this that people might actually want to watch would be on Paramount Plus’s own official YouTube channel, but as of this writing? Nope. Go figure. Why is it the actual good (or at least amusing) ads are always the hardest to find? Anyway, this actually came out a few weeks ago, but despite all the Paramount Plus ads one has to endure on YouTube, this one has yet to cross this particular viewer’s screen until they went looking for a different ad they’d heard about… Knock-knock, it’s Knuckles! At least they aren’t further rubbing salt in the wound that we never got a proper Transformers/Sonic the Hedgehog crossover from IDW by not having them appear in the same spot together. Though honestly, I don’t think too many people will be bothered if they do. Get a chuckle from Scourge’s lack of preparation? When an action figure is lacking in articulation and/or posing options, it’s common enough to hear people refer to it as a “statue” (or, alternatively and perhaps more commonly, a “brick”). Well, it seems the folks at Takara Tomy have decided to lean into that term where one of their upcoming Transformers offerings. Scheduled for a release in Spring of 2025 at a Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price to be determined, the newly-announced Karakuri Statue KS-01 Convoy is described on the official websiteas follows (via Google Translate): Reservations will open in the Summer of 2024 at the official Takara Tomy Mall website, among others. Naturally, the image is a prototype, and the final product, reservation start time, and release date are all subject to change. Thanks to PrimalxConvoy for the tip! Or you can go Beyond the Metaverse, and join us on our Discord, Discord.gg/allspark, where our operators are standing by to serve you!
