40 years ago today, May 8, 1984, the first piece of Transformers media - Marvel Comics' The Transformers #1 - was released. Although the cartoon would prove the more impactful of the two in the public consciousness, the comic was integral to the formation of the franchise as we know it today (we...
Looks like they also released the FCBD issue, at regular price, as the "Energon Universe Special 2024" this week for those who couldn't make it to FCBD.
Transformers #8 is out today as well!
And a Scorponok too!
That's why I always had zero interest in Titan-sized Fort Max or Scorponok... never had the G1 toys, and the first (and pretty much only) form of the characters that comes to mind is the Marvel G1 versions. And both were pretty major characters there too.
Look pretty cool, though I really wish the fusion cannon rotated around so the thinner end pointed forward.
I mean, not that I'm gonna get this anyways. It's cool but no way would I get $900 of enjoyment out of it. But it does look cool.
I get what you're saying but I'm not sure Shrek is a good example. While it has enough slapstick and such to work superficially as a kids movie, it's also full of metajokes/references that only an adult would get, as well as tons of double entendres. We might get some references/jokes to other...
Completely agree, it's a really nice and thick-looking design. Only weird part is those little tabs on the front bumper pointing down, makes it look like it wouldn't be able to roll, but maybe it clears the ground. But that grey. Oy vey, that "we pre-yellowed your toy for you!" grey...
As for...
Looks pretty good, especially the improvements to Landsaur. I think I preferred some of the color choices on the original though. A more silver-y robot face instead of green (even though I guess the latter is show-accurate?). And the new one's wings look like ham slices.
Corona did very well, to the point that if I hadn't known there was going to be an artist switch I might not have noticed. Good stuff. Also, looks like they've switched over to a more standard, readable typeface for the human dialogue, which I appreciate.
I agree though that I think this issue...
I'm with you, really wish I had gotten the Netflix 3-pack as I'd rather have the battlemasters than the trailer. Honestly already second-guessing my preorder
(raises hand)
Didn't get it when it came out (plenty of Optimuses over the years) but by the time I had seen enough reviews talking it up enough to get me interested, it had already ballooned in price.
I feel kinda dumb, when I first saw the release on Pulse I thought it was all four separate turtles that combined into one van. I realized $50 was a really good price, but, I dunno, maybe my brain thought they were Legends-sized or something. In retrospect, yeah, all four combining into a van...
Nautica wouldn't count, not because she's a retool as opposed to a redeco (I don't think it was meant that specifically), but she was a toy of a comics-only character. I think you might be able to argue some leeway if the character came out simultaneously as a toy and in media (like, I do think...
I don't think the mold has to itself be G1 (as in, 1984-1990) but it has to be a mold that was meant as a (pre-existing) G1 character, so that leaves out guys like the Rock Lords or Fossilizers. Does that also exclude someone like Axlegrease, since Scraphook is a neo-G1 character?
I think some...
That does look pretty good. Not sure if I would've preferred toy black over the cartoon's dark blue - the former is "cleaner" but the latter is more interesting/unique I think.
Wouldn't mind seeing this in other color schemes too. I only ever had the Dirge repaint of the original Voyager mold.
Yeah the Breakdown/Windsweeper pairing seems unfortunate. I've seen lots of love for the Bulkhead/Breakdown mold as a toy, but so far it seems to keep getting used for characters it doesn't really fit with - the proportions are just all wrong for Breakdown.
