I feel like if anything the problem is they put too much effort into the packaging. The phoned-in approach would have been to bundle the guns in a little rolled-up piece of paper like they do with a lot of small mainline accessories these days.
I free-associated from this and now I'm going to have to go through G1 to figure out the greatest number of similarly-colored guys with similar altmodes who ever all appeared prominently in the same episode (not counting the Constructicons, I guess). Off the top of my head the highest I can...
I've been meaning to do this since I got Earthrise Sunstreaker, but only finally got around to it last night. The heads popped on and off easily, but the hands were a pain. But anyway now I have two "new" Transformers for "free."
Reminds me of when people were wanting Overlord retooled into a Leader class Flywheels.
edit: Jesus christing hug we only just heard this existed and it's already sold out.
Some of the G1 Constructicons' guns have some very thin places, and Tonkanator's components are packaged in a plastic try that's designed so that parts "snap" into place and are held securely without need for an upper layer. This is a bad combination. Mega Hauler/Long Haul's gun just...
If it helps, both Guard and Breaker are based on the Diaclone decos that were also used for the appropriate SG guys. Guard came out looking pretty different from SG Ironhide (since the Diaclone toy was, well, the G1 Ironhide mold, so mapping its colors onto Ironhide's usual look takes some...
Anyway, I like what I see. Skipping Breakdown since I've skipped all the other Stunticons, and probably Needlenose since the Club version already suits my Noseleneeds (though it was hinted that he has some as-yet-unrevealed gimmick that might change my mind). Everything else is bought.
The fact that they felt they needed to invent a "G1" Slicer (but didn't do the same with Flamewar, who's in exactly the same "getting released in their regular deco as their SG self" boat) seems like confirmation that Hasbro now views "regular" Slicer as having been an SG guy all along.
I can't wait to see what wild assumptions people make based on what we do see. Like when the first reveals from one of the Generations lines (Siege?) were all Autobots and that clearly meant the line wasn't going to have any Decepticons.
I got separate shipping notices for Elita-1 and Tarantulas, but they have the same tracking number.
(Also, Knock Out is apparently being prepared for shipping.)
I feel like the proportionally huge ball joint elbows should have been a very clear indication that this was probably too small to be a SS86 Dinobot, but I guess that's a more obvious indicator to people like me who are into Legends/Cyberverse/Core stuff than to the "cartoon scale based around...
