Huh, didn’t know that Belgium had a deputy prime minister who is trans. Must be a world first (Belgium also had one of the first openly gay prime ministers).
Manitoba is one province where the (provincial) NDP has been historically strong, isn’t it? I remember reading a while ago that the provinces west of Ontario are all NDP vs Tory, with local Liberals often almost non-existent.
It’s that time of year again, and I’ve had my winter booster. The clinic I was at was almost empty though; even the people eligible for a booster seem not to be bothering for the most part.

Nothing to see here, just the Home Secretary saying multiculturalism and immigration is destroying western civilisation, and that “too many”...
I’m almost resigned to the fact that national governments will all put off doing a fraction of the bare minimum to mitigate climate change, and in 15-20 years we’ll all be living under drastic, draconian measures enacted by authoritarian regimes.
Meanwhile, the Tory government here announced yesterday they were junking most of their (incredibly weak) climate change mitigation policies, and doubled-down on “climate change isn’t our problem”-ism ahead of a general election next year.
I have two main issues with Tripredacus: one, the transparent plastic bits are brittle and impossible to avoid breaking. Two, he has always looked to me like a mutant demon version of Krusty the Clown.
Hope you're all managing to deal with the heat somehow.
It's pretty difficult to manage these sort of high temperature here in the UK; our residential buildings were built to insulate rather than dissipate heath, and we don't have air conditioning in our typical homes. Also, what was considered...
Yeah, you’ve got a point with how the British-style electoral system props up the Lib/Tory duopoly. Then again, the NDP managed to become the federal opposition once, and who knows how the Liberals will fare post-Trudeau, particularly if the NDP manage to get themselves a truly popular leader?
Did look up the fed NDP platform out of curiosity, and it’s pretty solid. Nothing extreme to my eyes, basically generic Western European centre-left with a bit of generic Western European green party. (“Pharmacare” still being a thing separate from regular Medicare is depressing to contemplate...
I'm a pessimist and think that mugshot is going to be an infamous and well-known image for decades if not centuries to come. I can easily seeing Trump milking the notoriety and victim narrative to get himself back into the Whitehouse and turning America into a dictatorship for at least a...
Musk’s a native English speaker. Apparently he didn’t enjoy learning Afrikaans (the language descended from the Dutch spoken by the Boers) as a second language at school in South Africa.
