I thought in Thundercracker's case they were the same thing. Oh! Make it even better by having part of the mold cast in glow in the dark, and other parts in UV reactive plastic, so no matter what light conditions, it STILL won't match itself!

I do find it odd, though, that they painted over the neck. G1 and TR Trypticon both have the orange plastic-over-machinery look, why not save a paint app and just homage it?
