Well, yes, its all conjecture on my point, but it doesn't sound too far off. if you are Hasbro, and want to release an exclusive $100+ toy to a store chain, why would you keep going with them? I mean at their peak, they had 40 stores in 2001, but by 2003 when they would have been getting things...
I am wondering whether or not the often rumored Drop test was an issue or an excuse given the shape of FAO Schwartz at the time (the retailer that was supposed to get RID Fort Max).

All the talk about Fortress Maximus in the RID2001 thread has got me thinking. If Hasbro were to release reissues of the G1 city bots, like Metroplex, Trypticon, Fortress Maximus, and Scorponok as the yearly titan class figure for $200, would you get one?
I would have no idea how to get one either, primarily as FAO Schwartz at that time only had 40 stores across the entire country, and that was its peak in 2001. By 2003 when Fort Max would have been released, it was down to 23 stores owned by Right Start, and in April of 2003 they declared...
I am stoked about the Aerialbots! Here is hoping that they continue to bring out more combiners, as we really could use a new Computron and Monstructor.
My favorite TFs by year:
1984: G1 Optimus Prime. Great toy!
1985: G1 Shockwave. Great play value and good articulation! Honorable mentions Devastator and Omega Supreme.
1986: Predaking. Honrable mentions to Metroplex, Trypticon, and all the scramble city bots.
1987: Computron. Honrable...
Cryotek is a great color scheme too!
Agreed about Universe. Its paint schemes were pretty neat, and Razorclaw is my preferred color scheme of that mold. I even like the Universe Optimus Primal, to which I have been trying and failing for twenty years to get folks to call Rodimus Primal.
And...
You were 4 or 5 years old when the line launched. No offense, but I doubt that you could have even read the names boxart at 4 or 5 years old, and would have no idea the complexities of wave releases and exclusives at that time. Meanwhile, I was a 20 year old man, emailing Hasbro about Scourge's...
