    Harris-Walz / Dems

OK, I don’t fully understand US politics, because it’s ‘unique’ in the western democratic world. Is there anything stopping the Democratic Party from having a different presidential candidate if Biden continues to poll bad and/or becomes incapacitated?

UK politics thread – meet the new boss, same as the old boss

We do need some level of rearmament. I’d rather we build the existing volunteer professional military rather than forcibly enslave kids for a year as free labour. Already this morning Tory ministers are trying to downplay the conscription policy (one even saying “no one will go to prison over...

BeOS?! Haven't heard that name in about 25+ years. Last I remember, Apple had planned to buy it and adapt it as a new Mac OS before a certain S. Jobs intervened. Interesting to hear it’s still around in some form.

UK politics thread – meet the new boss, same as the old boss

Find it ironic Tory MPs are angry at Sunak for ruining their life plans, when the Tory government have been doing the same thing to the British public for the last 14 years.

Just general incompetence, really. Not that different to the bad optics that plagued Theresa May’s general election campaign. All rather last minute too. Seems Sunak called the election without consulting most of his cabinet. He had six months left, so needn’t have called it this early. Safe...

Escalating anti-LGBT+ hate and the terrorism it inspires

The UK government are going to “Section 28”* trans people. And cut down on a lot of eduction about sex and relationship issues. Unfortunately not surprising, seeing how rabidly transphobic even Britain’s supposedly ‘liberal’ media is. * no, not the United Federation of Planets’ secret police...

Wouldn’t surprise me. Most likely however she’ll say something adjacent to that, and sue anyone who points out the obvious.

Ulp. Isn’t paywalled here. Might be a geolocation thing. Will avoid linking to the Independent in future. (To be fair, the aactual daily newspaper itself closed years ago, so perhaps I should avoid the website.)

Probably more than a bit of Trumpian “the rules don’t apply to me” thinking on his part. I voted LibDem in the PCC election. Thought it the best shot at unseating the Tory incumbent, and to me Labour is still as toxic as the Tories.

    Ranting about quebec: newspark edition!

That’s a whole can of worms in itself! The EU sees itself formed in 1951 (European Steel and Coal Federation) or 1958 (when the Treaty of Rome formed the European Community), depending on who you ask. The EU as it is now is considered more a rebranding and reorganisation, IIRC. (Yes, I’ve gone...

    Transformers Legacy toyline

Yeah, it was the US comic, but we got the US stories reprinted (with a delay). The story was published March 1986 in the Marvel US comic, and July/August 1986 here in the UK comic. I definitely noticed the similarity with Galvatron at the time, as the action figure was creeping into retail here...
