40th Anniversary Haslab: RID2001 Omega Prime

The third secret tier will be a pair of botbots that turn into a golf ball and a golf tee that merge to form Tee-er. No one will have any idea what they have to do with anything. I sure don't and I'm the one who said it.

...I need more therapy than this world will ever provide.

I would love a redeco of the VS Brainmaster as a mini-Koji reference (as it would be smaller than a Titan Master it would work as a 'kid sidekick in armor' and could do double duty as a stand in for the kid in Victory. But I doubt that's likely).

This is the fastest a Transformers HasLab has ever reached its final bonus tier. Victory Saber and Deathsaurus both took all the way up to the end of their funding windows to unlock theirs, but Omega Prime reached his with 15 days (over two weeks) left to go.

I'm glad tier 2 is unlocked because I want the stands more than the sword, but if they are to do a third tier or reveal it after the fact, I likely think it will be blast effects than anything else, likely the Jetfire ones as they seem to be the most popular ones to use, then I could be wrong and it could be a pair of non firing missiles to go with Bluebot weapon mode and the Omega form, where the 5 ml port holes are

For my own ideas, I have a few Prize Inside adapters that put together would make great barrels and then come apart to attach other accessories. I'm also considering giving Fire Prime a spare Animated Prime axe I could modify to fit, and the G1 prime rifle from the old accessory pack. In both cases, based on my original RID Prime that I loved but wanted better weapons for than a small pistol in his 'normal' mode. This time, I can probably do it easier since more is 5mm.

I do wonder how those stands will work with Omega Prime, though, as it still looks like he'd have a different height than either component and those stand arms aren't articulated.

Edit, re: Stands, here's just a 'proof of concept' for the idea I put forward before of those clear plastic Hasbro stands being of possible use with the big sword. They're pretty strong in the 'up/down' axis, and the slide adjuster is less likely to collapse than the joints of a usual model stand. Testing it out with Encore Maximus seems to work...I figure Omega can hold the handle, and the stands can be placed to keep the blade in whatever orientation gravity will not otherwise allow. If Gigatron's hand mode is still compatible this may work for that too.

I am happy with the missiles/barrels announcement, and that they're 5mm pegs. Back in the day when these were new those missiles fired off at the slightest provocation, I finally wrapped their stems in a layer of tape for extra friction. While many miss firing projectiles, this one change is a plus for me.

Now there's just enough time for them to show that somehow, you can wedge Titan Masters behind the truck windows. There's been no hint of any such thing, but if Siege Jetfire can seat three...

If not behind the windows, there are other Titan Master cockpits on at least Optimus.

Figured out the logistics of getting this thing into my hands, as ordering through a third party retailer this time around was prohibitively expensive. Previous Haslabs had markups, sure, but I saw it as a sort of tax to not have to bug my stateside relatives to receive it and then somehow get it to where I live. Now that the markup is nearing the base cost of the figure, I decided to take the direct HasLab route.

Either way, officially a backer now.

As the order period is winding down (and looking like, maybe, the most successful HasLab yet)…I just can’t swing it. This past month, I’ve really evaluated what I’m wanting from my collecting tendencies…and I’m not sure Omega Prime fits. While I have fond memories of getting the original Fire Convoy toy…I have no real attachments to the CHARACTER.
And at $275-ish after taxes…what would I need to give up this year to cover that? All told, that is probably close to what I’ll spend on GI Joe and Masters of the Universe FOR THE ENTIRE YEAR. And, again, who knows what kinds of goodies we have on deck for Transformers 40th on the back end of the year.

It’s still a great offering, and I’m glad to see it having done so well. But with the last two still sitting in their massive boxes…I’m not sure these large premium items are a good direction for me. And all that is on top of a string of unplanned bills all hitting right together which are, maybe, a bit more important to address than another big toy I won’t see for another year.

Hey, I get that. Confession. I have all the Haslabs because my parents are cool and thought they'd make great gifts.

I like them all. Thrilled to have them.

None of them are characters I care about enough to have spent any more than say $160 on them myself, let alone what they actually cost. If my Dad (mainly) hadn't latched on to these as the go to Holiday thing for me I wouldn't own a single one.

And I'd be absolutely fine with that.

Basically always buy what you can afford that makes you happy and don't feel bad about skipping anything even if other folks are thrilled by it.

-ZacWilliam, I'm trying to keep it to my absolute must owns financially at the moment and that still can be challenging (glances at about 6 guys I want who I still havnt gotten around to)

Yeah - this one is arguably more interesting to me than Victory Saber and Deathsaurus, yet I'm not buying in. I bought Saber as a bit of an impulse, then felt like I kind of had to buy DS to go with him. They both remain in the package and I currently have no plans to even display them. I think this would wind up the same way and the days where I buy stuff without somewhere to put it need to be behind me.

Super happy that he's doing so well for everyone that wants him though! It's honestly a bit of a relief to be ok with passing on a Haslab.

Meanwhile, I ended up missing out on the last three due to life issues, and decided to go for this one even though I'm not super interested in them.

I've missed everything so far due to life issues. It hurts.

But they haven't done Battlestars yet, so I have hope.

I missed Unicron due to my job situation and not really having a spot for him, and I deeply regret it given his aftermarket prices, so I've been picking these up just in case, figuring I can always sell them later if I need to.

Though I still haven't even opened Deathsaurus yet.

Omega Prime is borderline for me; I have the originals, and don't need yet another version of Optimus Prime (I have like 14 already), so despite a personal fondness for RiD due to it getting me back into the hobby in the 2000's, I'm not super sure about this one.

But it's a really, really good version of that character.

I passed on Unicron as I had no spot for him and didn't really want a figure that so big and heavy, he was like the cost of three Titan class figures during the funding

I was initially on the fence about this HasLab, for many of the reasons that others have already stated. But I absolutely love Fire Convoy, and this seems like the best avenue for those of us that want a modern update (even though I still consider the original to be modern). I just wish that I cared more about Magnus and the combined mode 🤷‍♂️

There's nothing wrong with passing on something that you simply don't have a use for. I kept my Armada Unicron, Star Saber I had to pass on due to financial issues but a friend got me one, I did get DeathSaurus, and I was going to pass on Omega but my medical stuff got postponed and I did a lot better on sales than I expected, so I paid off the outstanding mess bills, and will be able to swing Omega after all since I won't miss as much work. It's all a juggling act. However, I will have to skip the majority of other buys this year, as Omega IS a lot of money and I'm not dumb enough to put it ahead of actual needs.

Thing is, this ARE actually my favorite Optimus and Magnus designs, and I will be very happy to have a version of those (my old ones are long gone, and the TR and CW Optimus and Magnus, the last ones I got, aren't bad but aren't as fun, I will use them as their micro-bot operated Decoys!)

I passed on Unicron because, budget aside, I didn't want to have to redecorate half a room to accommodate him. And I passed on Victory Saber and Deathsaurus because I've never seen Victory and so they're big nobodies to me (and IDW's version of Star Saber did him no favors). Omega Prime I like enough to go for it, and if I change my mind later I can always flip him.
