The end is always rough. One day my old dog suddenly had neck pain. I asked if he wanted to go to the vet and he said yes. When a dog says yes to that question you know it's serious. He was diagnosed with degenerative disc disease, and one disc was already putting pressure on his spine. They said drugs might help and surgery would help, but it would be a losing battle because it was just going to spread all down his spine. I decided to try the drugs option but by the time I got him home that day he had already lost feeling in his feet.

Anyway a few months later he was running again. He never did get surgery and it never did spread down his spine and the vet didn't know why. He eventually died of natural causes.

Don't let anyone but your pets tell you it's over. They'll let you know when they're done, but if they're still willing to put up a fight you won't regret fighting with them.
