Aaaaaannnndddd the fitness thread is back baby! (maybe?)

New year, new you....right?

I did start the year off going on a mountain bike ride with my son. We had a great time.
Made this little GoPro video if anybody wants to watch:

Then I went for a run arouind my neighborhood. Comes out to 1.22 miles so I walked another .75 to give me 2.

I work from home now so I sit in a lot of zoom meetings. I gotta start being more active around the house. I have been thinking about setting a timer for every hour. Maybe one day do Push ups, another squats, situps...whatever. I also plan to doing something cardio wise every other day. A bike ride, a run, a walk...whatever it is. But Ive got to get out more. Im up to about 260lbs now and I hate seeing pictures of myself and clothes are not fitting.

Should we add the miles again this year?

I am getting over the flu, but when I am better, I plan to hit the gym a bit harder this year than I did last year.

In a couple months when I move I'm planning on doing a home gym. My bank account is preemptively screaming:eek:.
When I was single and had the space, I had a lot of success with a home gym. It's hard to not go work out when it's 20 paces away. :)

That and not having to share with other people and put up with Planet Fitness' terrible maintenance practices.

PF by me isn’t terrible. My wife signed us up for a family YMCA plan. I should be going there for weights.

Nice to have the fitness thread again, hehe.

It's more diet than exercise for me. I need to get out of the family house so I don't get all the extra food. I just have to live by myself again.

I've a gym membership to a gym that STILL hasn't reopened but as consolation, they let us use the smaller MMA gym, where it's limited machines but they have MMA, muay Thai, judo, kickboxing classes.

Got some scrapes but it's great cardio.

(Weird but I rewatched the Ducktales finale and I can see how difficult it is for the guys fighting. Steelbeak vs Darkwing, LP and Gizmo makes me think of what moves one can do to defend or attack. And I can respect how fearful Donald and Della can be when they go berserk.)

Yeah, there was a PF that opened up about two miles from my house in 2010. It was nice when it was new, but by 2014 it was clear that they had done very little to keep the place up. Eventually they stopped having cable tv on in front of the cardio machines, had issues with the building leaking constantly, and had several stations wore out or in disrepair. I stopped going there when the wife got pregnant in 2015, but a buddy of mine still went there until the roof collapsed in and they had to shut down the facility. Eventually they moved it across town next to the local Publix where the Best Buy closed down a year or so before. I haven't been there to check out the new facilities because.....

My wife signed us up last summer for the YMCA family plan. She loves it as she goes to Zumba three days a week, and gets to take the kids to their awesome pools in the summer.

The weights at the one location are fine, but not much better than what I sued at my home gym. However there is a second facility in town that is stocked to the brim with machines, weights, and stations. I like that one better, but this past few months, I haven't been to it. I need to go since i am paying for it. Once I get over this flu bug fully, I will hit it up next week and try to start going on regular days again.

I also need to get back to walking on my breaks again. Since I took this new job in in June 2022, I have had a lot more responsibilities that have kept me from walking as much as I used to. Also not having to walk a mile through a bad neighborhood just to park every day cut down on my cardio as well.

Not so much building maintenance as equipment maintenance. Nothing like having a machine you use regularly break and be down for 2-3 weeks.

You could do what is called a "dirty bulk" You eat anything and everything and lift heavy. Then you do your cut phase. Eat clean. Switch to medium weights and high reps. That burns the fat but keeps the muscle. As far as how long these phases last, I have no clue.

for basic muscle growth, to the best of my understanding, lift medium to heavy weights. Smaller sets like 5 or 8 per set. If you would normally take 1000 calories a day, make it 1500 or 2000. Those calories get turned into muscle.

but I am no body builder, can always try finding some videos on YouTube.

Did my third workout of the year. I'm figuring I can just log in how many workouts I do, though workout doesn't have to mean gym. As long as I decide to do a routine like push ups or burgers or a long walk, I'd count it.

So, so far, 3 out 31 for Jan.

Edit - didn't go to the gym cuz I played board games but just did some squats and Pike push ups at home along with biking.

4 out of 31 for Jan

haha. I did my run / walk yesterday. Was almost a minute faster than I have been.

One thing I have realized: Ive always loved running, BUT, it was different while in the military. There was always the thought in the back of my head about how I HAD to run faster because of my PT Test. Now, that thought isnt there. While I want to be faster and show improvement, its not the main focus. I can just run for the enjoyment of running.

I missed yesterday's workout cuz my arms were sore. I COULD have done squats but I didn't. Anyhow, just did a kickboxing session at the gym.

5 out of 31 for Jan.

Edit

It was raining yesterday so I couldn't bike to my judo, argh. Didn't do any home exercises either. Did MMA and kali something (self defense) class today tho.

6 out of 31 for Jan.

Missed my Friday and Monday runs, but I have been busy. We built our house about 2 years ago and the kids have done kid things without any regard for what they tear up, so some drywall patching was done. Had to replace some TP holders in the bathrooms. Fixed all of the curtain rods with dry wall anchors instead of just drilling in. Cleaned out the garage. I have hit my step goal everyday for the last 8 or 9 days. I have also been making better food choise. Had a salad for lunch today. Doing taco bowls for dinner. I have been feeling better over the last couple of weeks, so thats a positive.

Have been stressed at work but things should ease up.

Missed posting about another slow jog, a gym session and an hour's worth of physical activity in a trampoline and game park. So plus 3.
