Doesn't look like much, but I liked it. Had a bunch of ingredients that needed to get used. Found this cabbage recipe using the Supercook app (in the left side of the bowl). I had way more cabbage than I thought, so I ended up multiplying the recipe by 5 and baking it in a large pan. Took longer and covered it in foil for the last 10mins or so. The cabbage still has some crispness and isn't mushy, which I prefer.

The right hand side is stir fried leftover rice with chopped tomatoes, onions, and teriyaki flavored Spam. Sauteed it in the same frying pan I used to toast the cabbage. Pretty good together, also used some furikake on top. Wasn't meaty enough for TMM though, so he's eating other stuff XD

Nice! It reminds me of cooking in Japan with leftovers! Usually in Japan, we just stirfry the cabbage with the rice or noodles, without boiling it. That way, the cabbage stays mainly crisper then if we boiled it first.

Another thing we do is just chop up the raw cabbage into thin slices/strips, mix it with other salad veggies and pop some (oriental) or soy dressing in it.

Have you ever tried doing that? If not, I recommend it!

Tried making Salteñas. This is a fave food of my dad's. There's a bakery here that has really good ones, and I wanted to try it so I could make it when I visit my folks.
It wasn't too hard, just time consuming and messy. Following some of the comments, I mixed in the gelatin with the beef mixture and let it cool overnight. Also mixed the paprika with the dough to give it color. They taste good, but they weren't nearly as juicy as they're supposed to be. Also didn't bother making nice pleats to seal them, since this was just a test. We have so much filling leftover, we're going to make a pie out of later.

If I try this again, I won't drain the meat and use maybe half of the filling ingredients.

At Publix a few weeks ago (three weeks ago exactly), I found some frozen shoyu ahi poke and I decided to try it tonight. Decided to have it with some rice because I didn't have any other toppings (and just having the tuna and the sauce would be kind of boring) and it was really good.

I think it was actually meant to be two servings but I ate the whole damn thing lol. To be fair, I was hungry because all I'd eaten today was a ham and cheese sandwich and a rice pudding for lunch.

Global food in Japan for me (over a few weeks or so).

Regular sized fish and chips is back at "The Hub" pub chain in Japan!

We went to a Spanish restaurant in the local area last night.

Paella was good. Funnily enough, in Spanish, it's pronounced "pie-ey-ya" (or thereabouts) and in the UK, we ignorantly call it "pie-ella", but in Japan, they combined to two to say "pie-air-reeya" (similar to "pie alien" or "pie area"). In most supermarkets in the UK (when I used to live there), it was usually just prawns, chicken and some veggies with rice, but in Japan, we're lucky that must people like octopus, etc. The version above didn't have octopus (although they did a squid ink alternative upon request) but the Spanish restaurant in the next floor above DOES include it.

What's cool about this sidestreet is that they have an Okinawan, Korean, two Spanish (restaurants) and a Ghanaian bar (which is called "Sky Bar", when I keep telling them to call it "Aqua Bar" for reasons known to those who might know basic Ghananian).

After truffle-salted chips (which looked like, well chips with pepper on them), we finally had a small slice of slightly salted baked cheesecake with grapes and apricot jam.

I want it all, except the paella. It's a delicious dish, sure. But I have never in my life wanted to reach into a plate of rice to take shells off my food. That's the chef's job. I will die on that hill.

But it is delicious.

Funnily enough, they served the paella with everything together and then plated it WITHOUT taking the shellfish out of the shells or removing the carapace from the prawns and I was just saying the same thing as you to my girlfriend about this last night.
