I very much didn't.
My toilet can vouch that every single drop off hot, chilli-infused oil made its way through my entire digestive system. If you managed not to get splattered by hot oil then you did a lot better than I did with my first steak.
Nice! It reminds me of cooking in Japan with leftovers! Usually in Japan, we just stirfry the cabbage with the rice or noodles, without boiling it. That way, the cabbage stays mainly crisper then if we boiled it first.View attachment 20868
Doesn't look like much, but I liked it. Had a bunch of ingredients that needed to get used. Found this cabbage recipe using the Supercook app (in the left side of the bowl). I had way more cabbage than I thought, so I ended up multiplying the recipe by 5 and baking it in a large pan. Took longer and covered it in foil for the last 10mins or so. The cabbage still has some crispness and isn't mushy, which I prefer.
The right hand side is stir fried leftover rice with chopped tomatoes, onions, and teriyaki flavored Spam. Sauteed it in the same frying pan I used to toast the cabbage. Pretty good together, also used some furikake on top. Wasn't meaty enough for TMM though, so he's eating other stuff XD
"Tmm"?Yep, my mom does that a lot. I don't as much since TMM isn't big on veggies.
Ohhh. The penny drops. Cheers for the clarification.TMM=TheMightyMollusk another user here, and my hubby.
Ahh, a Hispanic take on the British pasty!View attachment 20962
Tried making Salteñas. This is a fave food of my dad's. There's a bakery here that has really good ones, and I wanted to try it so I could make it when I visit my folks.
It wasn't too hard, just time consuming and messy. Following some of the comments, I mixed in the gelatin with the beef mixture and let it cool overnight. Also mixed the paprika with the dough to give it color. They taste good, but they weren't nearly as juicy as they're supposed to be. Also didn't bother making nice pleats to seal them, since this was just a test. We have so much filling leftover, we're going to make a pie out of later.
If I try this again, I won't drain the meat and use maybe half of the filling ingredients.
Funnily enough, they served the paella with everything together and then plated it WITHOUT taking the shellfish out of the shells or removing the carapace from the prawns and I was just saying the same thing as you to my girlfriend about this last night.I want it all, except the paella. It's a delicious dish, sure. But I have never in my life wanted to reach into a plate of rice to take shells off my food. That's the chef's job. I will die on that hill.
But it is delicious.
