Some of the Terastallization raids are tough matchups. I was fighting a high star Flying type with a Water Tera power or something like that. Grass cat's moves were good against the Tera power, but the mon's Flying attacks were good against my cat. Didn't have much else in my boxes that was high level enough with super effective moves and was also resistant to Flying moves.

I can also totally see the crystal thing as a marketing ploy. They already have expensive jewelry on the Pokemon store.

That is one thing. I'm not sure if it makes me infuriated or impressed. I go into a raid with a mon dedicated to taking out the symbol of the raid but then get one-shotted by one of the pokemon's other moves.

And then they put in the seven-star Charizard and didn't take advantage of its actual move pool for type coverage. Not even Solarbeam.

I don't suppose anyone has any suggestions for finding the Blaze Breed Tauros? I've been battling small herd after small herd, and can't find a single one.

Okay, here we go. Tauros comes in three different flavors this generation: Fighting, Fighting/Fire and Fighting/Water. Fighting is the base form that can be found in both Scarlet and Violet. Fighting/Fire can be found in Scarlet and Fighting/Water can be found in Violet.

Here's where I find to be the best place to find Fighting/Water Tauros (West Provence Area two just east of Porto Marinada). Yes, Tauros do spawn in other places, but I find this one to be the best one to look for you're versions exclusive duo-type. Now, it may take you some riding around to finally make the duo-type spawn, but it shouldn't take too terribly long.

Now you'll notice three main differences between normal Tauros and duo-type Tauros: The shape of the horns, the shape of the tail and the shape of the mane. This also holds true for the Scarlet version, though I don't have a picture of that at the moment.

But when you're surrounded by a herd of Tauros just waiting to start a fight with you and you only have a moment to discern which, if any of these is your mark, I find it easier to look for the tail.

As you can see the normal Fighting Tauros has three tails that point straight out. The Fighting/Water has kind of a twisty messed up kind of tail (no that's not a graphical glitch). Though I don't have a picture of it, I was able to see from Google that the Fighting/Fire type in Scarlet has it's three tails braided into one with the end of it showing the three tassels.

Now here's the really good news. I did some picnic breeding with my duo-type. 10 eggs produced 10 duo-type Tauros. So it's not like a shiny where if you breed a shiny you'll likely get a non-shiny. Here, if you breed a duo-type, you get a duo-type egg.

...
...
...

Totally unrelated note, but would anyone like to trade for a Fighting/Water Tauros?

Okay, so now I've started Scarlet and...well...

That's what a Fighting/Fire Tauros looks like. You should now have everything you need to know to get your own duo-type Tauros.

Thank you, Caldwin! Been hunting after a duo-type Tauros for most of my playing time today with no success. Every one I've met has been a straight Fighting-type, much to my chagrin. Got a lot of level grinding out of my efforts, though, so there's that - my core four are now in the upper thirties or at Level 40.

By the way, can anyone recommend a good Water-type for this generation? I'm hesitant to go with any of the ones that I've caught thus far.

I don't really get into stats and tier lists for pokemon. I just usually go for what looks fun and what has type advantage. That said:

Quaxly: the water starter took me all the way through my Scarlet play through. I can't wait until I can finally get him moved over to Violet. His final form is Water/Fighting, if that helps any.

I like Finizin just because it's one of the more...interesting ways of evolution. But it may be more of a pain than it's worth to actually use. In order to evolve it into Palafin you have to level it up while in an online session s at level 38. (I was lucky enough to catch one in a raid. Also, Palafin starts out in its Zero form. In order to get it to become its Hero form you have to swap it into battle. It'll then go back to Zero form after battle. I've never had the opportunity to do this yet honestly. I only know about it because of Google.

So maybe Finizin isn't really worth it to you. I just put it up there because it's certainly...interesting.

okay, NOW after looking up Palafin this image makes sense.

When it hears its allies calling for help, Palafin will change its appearance from its Zero Form to its Hero Form, via its signature Ability, Zero to Hero. This transformation awakens its ancient genes, and is done in secret.
*Aoi Kajitsu starts playing*
Now I AM going to have to find a way to get one without Switch Online and totally naming it Nexus or Junius.

Technically he's Superman. I get the color comparison. But His zero to hero ability, where the mild manner dolphin darts away when there is trouble, and then in swoops the powerful heroic Dolphin? That is a play on superheroes in general, but made most famous by Superman.

I'd be more leery myself of the comparison if it wasn't for the same pattern of lines and the chest crest drawing directly from Nexus's. Even the eyes are similar to the classic Ultraman rounded eyes. Remember, this was made in Japan, where Ultraman is a cultural icon on the level of Superman in the US. And this is NOT an American game originally, even if they do factor in the English speaking world when making it.

The whole ducking away to transform is used just as much by Ultraman.
Example from Orb:

(There's also the pose, which funnily enough Orb even does in that video at the start, but that's just as iconic for Superman so that aspect is a wash.)

And the "When it hears its allies calling for help" part referances directly how classically Ultraman doesn't interfere until the Defense team has done it's best, then the titular Ultraman steps in to help finish. there's even an entire episode of Ultraman Mebius devoted to why that exists.

Again, if it wasn't for how the design directly references Nexus's Blue Junius form, far more than any other superhero, (and keeping in mind the cultural context) I'd agree.

And this isn't the first Ultraman referance in Pokemon either, The jewel in the center of Staryu is a referance to Ultraman's color timer, and IIRC when it gets low on HP it even plays the same beeping sound as when the Color timer is flashing in the shows. The entire CONCEPT of Pokemon even comes from Ultraseven and his Capsule kaijuu. Not to mention we just got done with a game where your Pokemon becomes giant for 3 turns. Kinda reminiscent of something where someone turns giant and can only fight for 3 minutes before their timer runs out...

Didn't Staryu make a sound similar to Ultraman's "Shuwatch!" in the anime?

I hadn't seen the anime in years, so not sure on the Shuwatch, but apparently they make fighting grunt sounds instead of saying their name as another referance, given pre-Mebius that's all Ultras did in battle pretty much. On the gem, I might have misremembered on it making the sound. The jewel though definitely blinks instead like the color timer does.
Let's see if this includes the gif...

*Looks up Bulbapedia* Palafin's Japanese name is just Irukaman (dolphin man), so that's no help. We missed out though, the German name is Delfinator.

After a hiatus I had some free time and replayed Scarlet this afternoon, I was grinding for the third gym and encountered a shiny Voltorb and shiny Rolycoly. Neato!

Cinderace tera-raids have begun.I kept getting my ass handed to me, so I'm calling it a night. If anyone happens to get one and breeds a Scorbunny, I'll trade a Charmander, or a starter, or whatever.

Congrats on the Cinderace Cal.

And on a side note, I can confirm that many pokemon unite players actually do not know how to play the game, as in literally do not know how to play the game.

Thanks! In full disclosure, I was mostly just trying to survive and throw in some buffs/debuffs...maybe throw in some chip damage. But it was someone else's Slowbro with Stored Power that won the day.
