Harris-Walz / Dems

Dunno if this will be active enough to warrant its own thread or if it should just be lumped together into some eventual Democrats thread, but oh well.

Several months into Joe Biden's presidency and his approvals are cratering as the Not Trump honeymoon is definitely over.

President Joe Biden receives a negative 38 - 53 percent job approval rating, the lowest score he's received from the American people on his job performance since taking office, according to a Quinnipiac (KWIN-uh-pea- ack) University national poll of adults released today. In Quinnipiac's last national poll released 3 weeks ago, he received a negative 42 - 50 percent job approval rating.

Today, Republicans (94 - 4 percent) and independents (60 - 32 percent) disapprove of the job Biden is doing, while Democrats approve 80 - 10 percent.

Biden received negative scores in the double digits on all but one key issue when Americans were asked about his handling of ...
  • the response to the coronavirus: 48 percent approve, while 50 percent disapprove;
  • the economy: 39 percent approve, while 55 percent disapprove;
  • his job as Commander in Chief of the U.S. military: 37 percent approve, while 58 percent disapprove;
  • taxes: 37 percent approve, while 54 percent disapprove;
  • foreign policy: 34 percent approve, while 58 percent disapprove;
  • immigration issues: 25 percent approve, while 67 percent disapprove;
  • the situation at the Mexican border: 23 percent approve, while 67 percent disapprove.

When it comes to Biden's personal traits, Americans were asked whether or not Biden ...
  • cares about average Americans: 49 percent say yes, while 48 percent say no, compared to 58 - 37 percent yes in April;
  • is honest: 44 percent say yes, while 50 percent say no, compared to 51 - 42 percent yes in April;
  • has good leadership skills: 41 percent say yes, while 56 percent say no, compared to 52 - 44 percent yes in April.
More than half of Americans say 55 - 42 percent that the Biden administration is not competent in running the government.

Quinnipiac is just one poll, but while it's one of his worst it fits the trend.

While the Quinnipiac poll has Biden at an all-time low approval rating, an analysis of various polls by FiveThirtyEight shows it remains at 44%.

It really doesn't help to have basically republicans in the democrat ranks helping obstruct literally ******* everything to prevent any kind of forward progress. They wanted biden because he was not trump, and everyone knew it would be an uphill battle to get anything at all done. Doesn't matter who's in the presidency: all of this would have been the same.

Biden really does need to be firing some people though. Nobody who had a hand in Afghanistan should still have a job.

Biden made a lot of promises, but the Republicans (and a few right-leaning Democrats) keep stalemating everything. And they have a much better propaganda network. So no progress is still a win for them.

It's the standard Republican play since at least Reagan. Make a huge mess and run up the national debt, dump it on a Democrat to try to salvage while opposing them the entire time, make a big show of nothing changing, then win the next race to screw everything up again and continue the cycle.

On top of that the continued pandemic is straining things.

As for the Afghanistan issue. The way I see it, it was a lose/lose situation. We would have to be there at LEAST 60 years for any meaningful cultural changes to take and we, as a nation, don't seem to have that kind of patience (which is yet another reason we shouldn't have gone over there in the first place).

Even if the US had the patience for a multi-generational occupation, the afghanis do not. If the general populace didn't opt to give you the boot, the insurrectionists would start a long term cycle of rising up and lying fallow, switching between the messaging of "the US cannot protect you" and "we're never going away.". Breeding death, violence and tension of waiting for these things into their culture.

Sadly: the solution is internal. There need to be afghanis that spawn a counter revolution with the aims of democracy and lasting peace. If you try to foist such a government upon them; it will eventually fail every time.

Edit: as for the cycle within the US, it will continue unabated because mitch the bitch will only allow the debt ceiling to be raised through reconciliation. The last one till the after the midterms. Which means the build back better act is officially dead.

Do you believe the CBS/YouGov poll that has him at 50/50? Or do you believe Economist/YouGov poll that has him underwater 40/50?

If you average the polls instead of relying on a lone one there has been no recovery for Biden yet.

Beyond the polls you can look at things like Terry McAuliffe (sp?) saying Biden was dragging him down in Virginia in his gubernatorial election during a call with his supporters. Biden won Virginia by 10 points and I don't think a Republican has one statewide in over a decade, so is McAuliffe saying things like that because Biden's doing great and there's no problem with his approval numbers causing down-ballot headaches?

Hopefully it's a wake up call to the Democratic party and they ramp up the fight over the next year. I fear it's unfortunately the norm for Democrats to let their guards down after a victory, even one as slim as they got in 2020.

Absent brainwashing Manchin and Sinema I can't think of anything Democrats can do to avoid a bloodbath in 2022.
