Hollywood is on Strike

Methinks a lot of studios are going to hope for big hits like Oppenheimer to help carry them through. Not sure how that would help theater chains, but successful films that people want to go and see again and again certainly can't hurt.

Not likely. It's not as simple as not releasing them, as a tax write-off they'd have to pay even more now to just release the thing.

I'm wondering if the strike will be used as an excuse to cancel shows that they had already renewed.

The same thing happen during 2007/2008 and mostly Hollywood productions whose affected.
Uh, no. The strike in 2007-2008 was just writers. This one, theoretically, is hitting Hollywood a lot worse. You can put on a production with a finished script, but no actors? That's a problem.

Only going to get so far before they need a voice, though.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

It's literally why they want AI. The studios want to do body scans and voice profiles so they can pay for an actor for a single days work, then profit from it forever using computers to fill in those actors and voices.

With chatgpt to write the scripts, and streaming to the movie theaters: they literally don't need people. Or rather, they think they don't.

Some of these writers may want to up their game in the future, then, because given a lot of the dreck that's come out of Hollywood over the last few years, I'd be willing to give ChatGPT a chance at writing scripts.

chapgpt will crank out reams of DTV movies, cartoons and drama's. I wouldn't be surprised if whatever precursor to chatgpt has been in use by the hallmark network for years now.

If you want oscar worthy material though... you currently still need flesh and blood. By which I mean satanic sacrifices to the machine. Entry level and dead end, but human jobs at least.

This post doesn't mention the strike, but it's still about a reason for the strike.
So the apparent stupidity of releasing a Halloween movie in July was actually intended to make the movie fail in theaters and only make money over three months later when they don't have to pay the writers as much.

Ladies and gentlemen, the downside of capitalism. Corporate greed, everybody.

I mean, I'm all for leaving folks alone to look after themselves, but said folks should at least be responsible and try their best not to cause others problems. Agreeing to what the writers and actors want? Perfectly reasonable.

Or it could mean the studios were screwing the workers out of far more money than they imagined.

It's still about money, just indirectly. If they can intimidate the strikers now, they prevent another strike later. It's an investment.
