"So you can't breathe water. Now I know what to get you for Hearth's Warming." Snowy says with a grin. Once she disappears underwater, the ball of light morphs into a clock, reading 1:00:00, and begins to tick down. He turns to Scarlet. "I'm pinging her anyways, just to be sure. I give it decent odds that she tries to plant the seed underwater."

Static closed his eyes and clenched his teeth in frustration. Night Cap just didn't get Rhapsody's meaning. And for once, he had no good argument to help him out.

Sure things might be mitigated by the fact that Night Cap undoubtedly saved his life. But that wasn't going to totally dismiss the fact that he disobeyed a direct order from the team leader...twice.

This was gonna suck.

Nothing he could do right now. All he could do now was lay back and enjoy the ride to the hospital.

"Always best to know where your team is," Scarlet said, not quite keeping an edge of bitterness out of his voice. Forcing a cough to try and hide it, Scarlet grinned at Snowy.

"You have some unique skills Mr. Skies. Definitely the kind i'm sure come in handy on STOMP missions. How long have you been on the team?"

"Try to cut her some slack." Snowy suggests. "She's definitely used to leading a team. A moderately ditzy one, from what I've seen." He thinks for a moment, eyeing the glowing clock, before saying "A month or two? I find it's easier to measure these things in terms of mear-death experiences. I think I'm at 5, now."

Scarlet hurriedly shook his head at Snowys words

"Sorry, that didn't come out right," he said, annoyed that he'd let past feeling about himself cloud his words. "I meant that its nice to have someone who can keep tabs on team members when they have to head off on their own. It wasn't a slight at Splash Flaunt.

You're right though. She's ditzy, but competant.

Wait, 5 near death experiences? We're going to have to compare notes when this mission is over."

Snowy grins. "If you think she's the ditzy one you've got another thing coming."

Scarlet raised an eyebrow at that.

"Oh really?"

Eyeing Snowys ticking magical clock, Scarlet said.

"Well then, since we have some time to kill while Splash Flaunt does her thing, could you give me a quick tundown of the current STOMP team?"

"Wait, I got one question for youse." Before reaching the door to lead the group to the hospital, First Ivory turned to look at the TAKE pony. "Where did youse get the helicopter from?" The robber fidgeted a bit before responding with, "From Tipsy Tulip. She's a mad..." "I didn't ask youse who. I asked where." "Oh. She travels with an enormous train. She keeps moving and even has a few of her own tracks and junctions across Equestria. Only a few ponies know her stops and how to reach her."

Spoiler

"And you're one of those ponies?"

"Nope, my bosses are. I just help steal...erm." The TAKE pony fell silent as First Ivory and all of the bankers collectively narrowed their eyes.

"Oh dear, it's stolen?" said Amber, somewhat absently but looking slightly crestfallen.

"Well the first thing to mention is that Splash Flaunt isn't technically a member of STOMP. She was, a long time ago, but...stuff happened. Now I guess I'd qualify her as a freelancer, with her own team, who is very loyal to Brisk Iron. It's made the last few years pretty rough for her. But I shouldn't talk about things I don't fully understand. Within the actual STOMP team there's yours truly..." Snowy steps to the side and settles onto the ground, leaving an image of himself behind that quickly morphs into a smiling yellow earth pony with sea blue hair.

"Then there's Anchors Away, my team lead. She's a seapony that transferred here recently. If you've worked with STOMP before you might have met her. She was moderately disappointed that we weren't all more heroic, but she's getting over that. Marefriend to Static Signal." The smiling pony's coat dulled to a darker shade while their mane yellowed, and the smile turned into a moderate grimace.

"Static Signal, Earth Pony. Most days you can find him running the projection booth in the museum. While on missions, talents include being a distraction, protecting the team, and being one tough nut to crack. Recovering alcoholic, but let him tell you about that before you say anything. It'll probably come up pretty fast; he tends to wear his heart on his sleeve. Part of Team Remainder with Rhapsody." The coat and mane dulled all the way down to black while wings formed on the sides of the construct. After a moment's inspection by Snowy, muscle tone was added, and rainbow socks appeared.

"Rhapsody is probably the toughest pony on the team. I'm not sure why she's teamed up with Static, it seems like they'd be better off spread out, but I don't make those decisions. As you may have noticed, she's extremely athletic, and she knows how to use her wings. She has an aura of calm about her most of the time. It's almost unsettling Her solutions to problems include punching things, punching things really hard, threatening to punch things, and utilizing magical music to do Celestia knows what. I don't even know how she does it. Works as an astronomer in the planetarium. Marefriend to Amber Spark...s." If you were going to go for a deception, you may as well go all in. The muscle tone was gone, the color was adjusted, and the wings were replaced with a horn.

"Amer Sparks, leader of Team...other team. We don't actually have team names, Rhapsody and Static have just been short a unicorn since Light Fantastic left. There's only three teams. As a historian, Amber is one of the few ponies to bring her work with her on missions, but in addition to historical knowledge she also has an array of lightning spells and an expansive knowledge of metallurgy. Capable of incredible feats of both magic and pedantism, holds great disdain for everything I stand for on this team. Yet somehow we get along swimmingly. Her teammates are Night Cap and Maplejack."

As the horn melted back into the head of the modelling dummy, the coat shifted tone slightly, and the hair became considerably messier. As the tranformation finished, a small pegasus with a pale coat and crazy red hair dropped down onto 'Night Cap's' back, though the impact barely registered. "Night Cap is a dreamwalker, and he leads quite the night life, so don't judge him if he looks exhausted before things even get underway. He's...I don't even know what his job is anymore, I just know he works in the documents department and is rarely around. His job is surprises and disaster scenarios. You'll have to see it to believe it." The lightweight pegasus stood up a little straighter on his back. "Maplejack is one of the newest additions to the team. We don't actually know how young she is, she has moderate amnesia. Skills include candy-making, friend-making, and hammerspace storage. Her metaphorical rose-tinted glasses have been scratched up a bit in our work here, but they're not gone yet. She's an avid wrestling fan and may actually perform herself. I don't know; I declined my ticket. She joined at about the same time as Misty Monsoon." The back-pony went up in smoke as the beige stallion grew taller and lankier, sprouting wings and enshrouding bangs.

"Misty Monsoon is the other thing you have coming. She thinks I'm a superhero." Snowy lets the statement hang in the air for a moment. "Aside from that, she's the third member of my team. She's always helpful and upbeat. She's a powerful flier and swimmer; If the gang was all here she and Anchors would be taking care of this. I can only swim a little, so I sometimes make life difficult for them. She's apparently from an island out west, but she doesn't really remember how she made it to the east coast. So she's a lovely, bouncy, mystery."

The model regressed down to a clothing store dummy, but remained present as Snowy looked at Scarlet curiously. "So that's us. Three and three and two, and now you. Who are you, Scarlet Spectrum?"

[this is obviously in the wrong thread]

If it makes you feel any better, Zam, I just checked and saw Static was introduced all the way back in November 5, 2014. I...honestly can't believe it. Only a little over a year for me I suppose...but it doesn't feel nearly that long. I only feels like maybe a few months to me that I first ran into Dazzling.

That makes it all the more odd though that IC only...what...a few weeks...maybe a month has passed?

Scarlet watched with a mixture of respect and wonder as Snowy Skies constructed and reconstructed the magical representations of the current STOMP team.

"Eclectic is definitely the word to describe this team. Although i can see why she made the choices she made. Most of them anyway."

As Snowy got the part about Rhapsodys penchant for hard hitting solutions to problems, Scarlet couldn't help but laugh, though he sobered up fast enough when the Unicotprn fmpi ished by turning the illusion around on him. Flaring out his wings and trying to stand tall and impressive. A feat he was pretty sure he was botching, Scarlet smiled nervously.

"Me? I'm and adventurer linguist. I just a teacher of old languages and the truth behind ancient legends at the museum before the Chief recruited me into the team.
V
Well ok, i used to freelance exploring in my spare time, or to escape certain classes. Which is what got Brisk Iron attention i guess. I used to lead a team myself eventually. Like you, we were sent into the corners of Equestria, following have deciphered writings or old legends, to retrieve something that must by salvaged, of safeguarded, for the good of Equestria.

Then my time ended. Things happened that led to my leaving the team, and Caballuston. Not sure whether Splash Flaunt was in STOMP before or after me, though our exits from the team are very similar, to a point.

After that, well, i moved from place to place, taking teaching jobs where i could, as well as freelancing where i could. Although too many of yhose jobs tended to either end in discovering that what we sought was gone, or had never been there in the first place. Those that did succeed, i ensured that what was found eventually ended up in the hands of the Keep.

My magic specialises in understanding foreign tongues, enchanting equipment or travelling gear, and, when necessary, compelling the truth from those who would otherwise lie.

Oh and i write books on the languages and dialects of Equestria," Scarlet added with a self-deprecating chuckle. "Some of which need better proof reading."

Scarlet took a deep breath and exhaled slowly.

"I guess i'm a product of my parents. Although if you'd heard of hem before meeting me, i can place odds that you'd be expecting a very different pony than the one standing before you.

Hm. While i don't fully recognise Anchors Away, i do remember one mare who used to work at the Keep. Flairvoyant? Is she still around?"

"Thats great! Its nice to know she's finally getting out of the office," Scarlet said with a smile of his own.

"Wait, Petrichor Falls. Really? I don't know much fact about the place, but i've heard plenty of rumour. Whats there for STOMP--!" Scarlet cut off sharply as he was forcibly reminded that a) STOMP was a covert time, and b) he was barely back on the team and already digging for information he had no right or need to know.

"Uh, sorry. Pitfall of a mildly obsessive mystery hunter," he said, a little sheepishly.

After a bit of waiting and conversating, Snowy Skies and Scarlet Spectrum felt a small rumble under their feet. Suddenly, a large flowerbud rose out of the ground in front of them and opened to reveal Splash Flaunt. She seemed quite dizzy and grumbled, "That will never be pleasant. Anyway, I found a lake about five miles from the cave entrance. It's off course if you were coming from Nightmare Heights but not by much. However, the thing you might find of greater interest is that there was a house on an island in the lake. It looked abandoned but I felt it was better procedure to report back instead of exploring it alone without anypony knowing where I was."

Spoiler

Static hears Ambers sad expression and rolls his head around to see what has her down. "I think he was just speaking in general about his career as a low down dirty thief. The chopper may actually be legit if you're planning on claiming it. I'd...kinda like my equipment back," he adds sheepishly.

Night Cap
"What did Casino Souffle take? What is his escape plan?"

"I don't know but it wasn't much. He had two mares with him that were wearing some sort of ninja pajamas and between the three of them I don't even think they took a sack of money. He didn't tell us his escape plan but if he got caught, that's on him. We had our own way out. We did drop a tornado outside the city to serve as a diversion for both of us. Heh, portable tornadoes. I wonder what Tipsy Tulip will invent next."

As the STOMP team, First Ivory, and the Petrichor Falls bankers stepped outside, Rhapsody turned to look at the TAKE pony with a most displeased look on her face. Soon after, they stepped out to join the others. From the look on the TAKE pony's face, it was likely the crimefighting mare's words made sure that this foul miscreant would know better than to ever commit another crime again. A pony in a purple suit walked up and slapped hoofcuffs on the robber before the group headed to the hospital. The nurses rushed to attend to the group's injuries. Flairvoyant would likely be fine but would need to rest her head to reduce the swelling. While Static Signal didn't break any bones, he would have severe muscle sprain and painful bruises that would require a hospital stay and time off of work.

One of the banker's asked,
"What do we do now? It seems like the robbery was stopped but Boss Vine hasn't given the all clear yet."

Spoiler

Scarlet was just about to ask what Snowy used to do before STOMP, when the Wands magic seed grew up in front of them, bringing Splash Flaunt. Listening to her comments, Scarlet nodded in response.

"I'm glad you came back first rather than go in alone," Scarlet said sounding relieved.

"On its own, and abandoned house wouldn't really be worth checking. Except that we have the Wand of Incomparable Green, the lately gone former wielder of the Wand, Barometz. Hidden puzzle boxes, and randomly hidden puzzle squares. Put them together, and the presence of a lone house seems more than just coincedence.

Or i could be overthinking all of that," Scarlet said, shrugging.

"Either way, shall we go take a look? Your choice."

Snowy nods. "I'm familiar with the lake, but I didn't know about the island. We should definitely take a look."

Splash Flaunt reached out and touched the wand and she, Snowy Skies, and Scarlet Spectrum were pulled into the ground by several vines. After a while, the three bloomed near a house that had seen better days. And that's not an understatement as the amount of rot and decay assailing the building made it seem like it could fall apart at any moment. The door was ever so slightly cracked and the surrounding swamp was mostly silent. "Who shall be going in first?"

Snowy sizes up the building with a baleful eye. His track record with structural collapse was less than stellar. "I'm tempted to try bringing it down from the outside and sifting through the aftermath, but we don't have any way to clear the wreckage. I may as well go first, I tread lightly." Snowy approaches the door and gently pushes it open, holding it with his magic so it didn't swing back at anyone. As he across the threshold, he felt the need to breathe more lightly.

Spoiler

Scarlet wobbled a bit himself, only getting his senses reoriented in time to hear Snowy volunteer to go first. Giving his head one last vigorous shake, who smiled at Splash Flaunt.

"Yep, you're right. That will probably never feel anything other than weird."

Scarlet then tucked his wings in slowly followed Snowy inside, scanning around as best he could.

Spoiler

Looking around the cottage, Snowy Skies saw that the cottage wasn't just decayed, it was incredibly old. It didn't seem to have modern amenities and even the size was a little off. Scattered about were various carving tools and half finished bits of various sculptures and puzzles. On a table that was long past the point where the type of wood could be recognized was a combination box matching the others that had been found in the cave. However, what was even more striking was a singular full body mirror standing in the room. It seemed normal except for the fact that unlike the rot around it, the mirror and its frame was absolutely pristine outside of the smallest bit of rot where the mirror touched the ground. Furthermore, there were several burn marks in the shape of squares scattered in front of the mirror, though this was slightly obscured by the dust and rot covering the floor.

Scarlet Spectrum didn't see as many details as Snowy Skies but he did swiftly pick up that the house was fairly old and the mirror itself was immediately obvious. And then he had a fairly painful, heavy sneeze. It was odd since while there was a lot of dust, he usually only sneezed like that when his allergies acted up...

"I guess whoever lived here really liked their mirr...mi...aahh...aaahhh..."

ATCHOO!!

Scarlet reeled slightlupy, feeling like he'd sneezed out the entire contents of his head.

Funny, that normally only happens when... Oh.

"I don't wish to alarm anyone, but there is something alive in this rotten mess besides us," Scarlet said.

Snowy jerked at the sneeze, half-expecting the building to cone crashing down around them. When it didn't he relaxed a little, but he still bit back any snarky comments he could make at Scarlet. He simply limited himself to "What exactly do you mean by alive?"

Second Ivory gave Maplejack a quick hug. "Don't youse worry. I bet your family will show up sooner or later." "We probably will be forced to leave Casino here. He'll slow us down if we bring him with us and if they try to recover him so they can escape, they'll at least have to backtrack instead of us bringing him to them. Unless you have any better ideas Maple, let's keep going."

Maple Shook her head, all her ideas - good or bad had all been used up getting to this point.
"I'm just happy to help - you two'd be doing this without me if I hadn't rushed off from the rest of the group. So I'll stick with whatever plan you both come up with."

Scarlet shook his head again, trying get his thoughts moving, but could only think of one thing to say.

"Snakes. Why does it have to be Snakes?"

As if on cue, Scarlet Spectrum sneezed once again and a hiss could be heard from a nearby corner.

Static winces as he lays down on the hospital bed. "Aww cripes! I feel like I've been ridden hard and put away wet!" He catches a glimpse at the mirror. "Sweet Luna! Is...is that me?" His head plops back onto the pillow.

[Oh...right! Looks like I'm in a bed. I'm supposed to hate beds. Heck with it! Hurts too much to protest.]

After seaching the underground tunnels, no trace was found of the unicorn mare that Grape Vine, Second Ivory, and Maplejack were looking for. Retracing their steps, they retrieved Casino Soufflé, returned topside, and headed back towards the center of the city.

"Sorry? You kidding? I've never eaten so well since last night and today? I actually flew! Twice!! I can't remember the last time I've had so much fun." *ping* *wince* "Okay...so next time I need to remember the parachute. Still, no regrets.

Static shrugged and gave Rhapsody a curioius look. "What's wrong with that? Going up against a gang of criminals....not a bad idea to be armed."

Grape Vine smiled at Rhapsody. "Quite perceptive. I see why Brisk Iron chose you. I guess I should show you since Maple already saw." She turned to look at the nurse. "You? Out." "Yes boss." After waiting for the nurse to leave, Grape Vine reached into her mane and slowly pulled out a magic wand. The handle was like a clear cylinder that had been vertically cut in half. The head of the wand floated separately from the handle and was made of a half sphere of prasiolite. "This is the Wand of Doubled Doubling. It has been instrumental in protecting the city and it allowed me to provide aid to the weather ponies who stopped the tornado today. Its power can be broadcast citywide through the central microphone kept in town hall but for only while I'm there with it."

"Oh... what did it do when we were fighting the tornado? I probably missed it," Misty asks.

"The wand allows me to create temporary duplicates of other ponies. Several ponies joined the weather team but left when they were done."

Scarlet shook his head again, trying get his thoughts moving, but could only think of one thing to say.

"Snakes. Why does it have to be Snakes?"

Snowy blinks. "Is that all? I was expecting zombies." He levitates the puzzle box over to Splash Flaunt and surveys the mirror "I want to touch it," He observes. "But I suppose we should deal with the snakes first. Clear a path to the door, please."

"Wow! I had no idea! I thought they just left quickly because it was their day off or something."

Out of everything that was said, Static's mind latched on to one thing. "You managed to make Dazzling Midnight...winded? You managed to do far more than what we've previously seen with that...mare. That's actually good news though. If she can be winded, she can be defeated."

It was a stretch. That mare was not natural. She still scared the Tartarus out of Static.

But it was the only ray of hope he'd seen in dealing with her.

Scarlet felt Splash Flaunt move him aside, and realised he'd zoned out, hearing nothing but the hissing.

"Um, yeah. Sorry. I'm...allergic...to snakes," the pegasus said in a small voice.

With a last glance at the mirror himself, Scarlet hurried after the others as they left.

Grape Vine tucked the wand back into her mane. "The wand and I have an agreement. It simply wants to be put to use instead of being sent to a museum or languishing somewhere forgotten. As far as Dazzling Midnight, the scary thing is that I don't think she wants the wand or at least not immediately. I don't know if she knew about it when she arrived. Casino would have had difficulty in getting it due to one key weakness: The wand's power can't be used on the wielder. If he tried to steal it and got caught, he'd only be able to make duplicates of the ponies chasing him. Of course, that leads to the question: If they didn't want the wand, just what did they want? Some of the things in my collection might have scientific or magical worth I simply didn't know about."

Snowy shrugs. "If the continue to hide, we just keep exploring, tinker with the mirror, etc. If they come out, I pick them up and throw them out the door and into the lake, where they drown. All we need to worry about is a snake that's bigger than me." He looks expectantly at the shadows in the corners of the room.

Scarlet Spectrum and Snowy Skies looked around until they spotted it. Hidden in the corner, they saw an open stark white mouth baring fangs in defense. Splash Flaunt calmly glanced over and said, "Oh, it's a cottonmouth. Throwing it in the water will do two things. First, it won't drown because it's a swimmer. Not as good as some but it'll manage. Second, we'll have to limit getting in the water if you throw it in the lake because it's poisonous."

"That works." Snowy says, plucking the snake up with his magic. It felt fantastic to lift something without the pinching resistance he'd felt for so long. He put it near the ceiling and held it in place. "I'll just keep it here, until we leave. How solitary are cottonmouths?"

"We should be fine within this house for the moment unless there's a litter. Any other adults would have likely reacted to us as well if they were here."

"Neato. Scarlet, can you check those carvings for any sort of signature, anything that might give us a clue who lived here? Splash, I'm going to have a look at the mirror, if my hold on the snake wavers can you take care of it?" Pushing felt like it should be easier than holding, so Snowy gently pressed the snake against the wall of the cabin, bringing it low enough that Splash Flaunt could keep track of it. The level of caution he was suddenly employing with the life of a creature he had considered drowning not a moment ago struck him as odd, but now that he found it in his grasp he couldn't even think about it. Setting that matter aside for a moment he gathers up the rest of his magic and spreads it over the mirror looking for inroads and emanations.

Spoiler

"Drown them?" Scarlet was legitimtely surprised. "I'm sure there--," but Splash Flaunt had beaten him to it. As he watched Snowy levitate the Cottonmouth, Scarlet eyed the thing warily.

"Much better."

At Snowys words, Scarlet turned to the carvings. He focused on trying to find a name, initials, or some kind of recognisable symbol that might give a clue as to its owner.

Spoiler

While Snowy Skies found the faintest bit of unknown magic lingering on the mirror, the mirror itself seemed utterly devoid of its own magic. He did find that the burn marks on the floor shared this magical signature and both had similarities to the mechanical squares that had been found. Meanwhile, Scarlet Spectrum found a wood carving with the initials 'MW' carved into it. Another looked like a metal storage box of some sort with intricate engravings similar to designs from the Castle of the Two Sisters.

"Unfortunately, yes. The two associates with Casino got away. Furthermore, one found a civilian to use as a decoy so they could very well be anywhere."

"Yeah, we found a pony in a coin uniform tied up with a skipping rope, She was very nice and the clothes didn't at all fit her right so... I guess we lost a bit of time helping her out." Maple shrugged, it felt like it was a good thing.. but maybe they should have told her to sit tight and they'd come back for her... something to think about if there's a next time.

Maple scooted over to Static's bedside while the Big ponies continued talking.
'How are you feeling Static? are the doctors here looking after you all right?" -Tiny teardrops begin to slide down Maple's face as she looks at how bad of a condition he's in.
Because I left, the team was down a set of wings... I could have... this is my fault. Maple's head sunk against the side of the bed.. two little damp circles forming as she sobbed her little heart out.

"Hey! Stop that. Ain't nopony's fault but the ones who robbed the bank. I hurt plenty, but I'll survive. And the doctors here are really quite nice."

"Bed's a bit soft though,"

Coming back up, Maple makes the effort to put on a smile for her friend.

"Huh. Whoever lived here really liked the art on the Castle of the sisters," Scarlet said, mostly to himself. Turning to the others, Scarlet gestured to the wood carvings and boxes.

"Ok. We have an odd storage box and the initials 'MW'. Do either of you no of anypony with a name matching them. Maybe a missing Pony?"

"Unfortunately, yes. The two associates who were previously with Casino got away. Furthermore, one found a civilian to use as a decoy so they could very well be anywhere."
Misty suddenly stood up very straight. Her tail twitched.

"They're still here. They haven't left town yet," she said very matter-of-factually.

Static raised an eyebrow. "How do you know? I mean, sure we crashed their mane getaway vehicle, but they didn't look like they had any intention of sticking around. They could be anywhere."

Misty shrugs. "I dunno? I had this feeling... my mother used to say, sometimes you just know things. That's the feeling I got."

Static took a moment to think about how he just knew Snowy and Maple were in a fight and nods slowly. "Fair enough. So what's the plan?"

Maple's smile became a real one as Misty's announcement gave her hope for redemption. Turning back to Rhapsody and Boss Vine... Maple hoped the plan was swift justice.

"Ok. We have an odd storage box and the initials 'MW'. Do either of you know of anypony with a name matching them. Maybe a missing Pony?"

"Eeyep." Snowy says with a nod. "This house belonged to Moonbeam Writ, the architect of a manor that exists in it's own dimension. That puzzle box probably contains the third piece of his blueprints for it. I'll tell you more later, it'll only freak you out now. In the meantime, let's look under every table and in every corner, then head out. We got what we came for, at least." Snowy slowly approaches the mirror, gently shifting it with a hoof so that he can look behind it.

Rhapsody considers. "Well, first thing is we know Static isn't going anywhere. Not with those injuries." She says and then looks over to Night Cap. "You stay here as well." Before turning her attention back to the mayor. "That wand can work on us, if needed right? Just not yourself?"

"Actually, if somepony could just bring me my radio transmitter I can still...except Flairvoyant probably isn't in any shape to go anywhere either. Well, I only used one of Snowy's bugles. I won't be needing any more of them or the coins he gave me. So feel free to divvy those up."

"Architect, eh? Guess i had it bacwards then. The carvings and designs on the puzzle square and this box weren't based on the castle. The castle designs were based on them. And you say this Moonbeam Writ designed an... Interdimensional mansion? Thats either genius, or madness. Or just plain weird. But yeah, i'd like to knowpw more when we get out of the swamp, because freaky or not, that sounds intriguing."

Scarlet then started a slow around the small house, looking for anything useful or important that may be hidden by the decrepidness of the house. Although h made sure to give the floating Cottonmouth a wife bearth. His nose still itched like crazy.

Amber didn't like the idea of using the wand - or the idea of the wand being in Grape Vine's control at all - but she nodded and smiled at Rhapsody's suggestion. "Oh, yes, capital! We could, hmm, split up and cover more ground."

Amber suddenly frowned as she imagined a room full of Rhapsodies, Statics, and Night Caps having an argument. It was probably a very fortunate turn that Night Cap and Static were staying in the hospital.

Grape Vine nodded to Rhapsody. "Correct, I can't use it on myself. The only way I'd be able to do that is if I had the other half. But never mind that. We're ready to assist you in your plan."

Scarlet Spectrum was fairly distracted by his allergies as he tried to examine the outside of the cottage. However, it was to no avail as time had worn down discernible details.

Finding nothing behind the mirror, Snowy decided to trust Scarlet and Splash to search the rest of the room. "If we haven't found anything, there's only one thing left to do." He says with a sigh. "Pass me that puzzle piece we found, will you? Then everyone step out the door."

Having seen nothing, and feeling his concentration slipping the more he fought his allergies, Scarlet headed back to Snowy Skies ans Splash Flaunt.

"Nothing, except rot and ruin. This mirror is the only thing left," Scarlet huffed. Then he eyed Snowy as the Unicorn asked for the puzzle piece. Using a wing to pull thr gold piece from his pack, he looked from it, to the mirror, to Snowy Skies.

"Whatever you're planning, it has something to do with that 'TCHOO' otherdimensional mansion you mentioned doesn't it?"

Grape Vine announced to the STOMP team, "There's not much time before you need to prepare for the train ride back. I suggest we start in the center of the city and spread out. It'll also allow me to make an announcement to the city to help calm the citizens."

Splash Flaunt nodded to Snowy Skies and calmly exited the cottage.

Snowy winces at the sneeze, glancing back up at the ceiling before taking the puzzle piece. "I call it manorspace, for lack of a better word. I didn't want you to worry, but people get pulled into manorspace through reflective surfaces. They usually don't go through without touching the mirror, but contact doesn't seem to be necessary. And these scorch marks on the floor are all linked to the mirror, which is in turn linked to the puzzle pieces...somehow. So step out the door, and we'll see what happens to the snake when the puzzle piece touches the mirror." Snowy gently bumps the snake and the square together, then floats them over to the mirror, gently nudging first the snake, then the puzzle piece against it. "Two of the three ponies that were pulled in last time had contact with the puzzle pieces, to my knowledge." He continues. "I'll need to ask Desert Rose and Light Fantastic if they have any ideas about why they were pulled in."

"I appreciate the sentiment Snowy, but the more i know the better," Scarlet said. As unsettled as he was at the idea of ponies being drawn into a what sounded very much like a pocket universe. He was definitely sure he would be more unsettled if something happened, and he didn't know about this 'Manorspace'.

"Alright then, lets see what happens. Just know that, from now on, i'd rather know and worry, than have something happen, only to find out later that i missed something important."

Casting a last glance (and sneeze) at the Cottonmouth, Scarlet slowly backed out the door and waited for Snowy Skies.

Slowly and carefully, Snowy Skies pressed the snake and the metal piece against the mirror...but nothing happened. It was unknown whether something else was needed or if there was simply no effect. What was known was that the snake hissed in displeasure as it touched the cold mirror.

"Oh hush, you." Snowy says, shoving the snake into a dark corner of the house as he walks to the mirror and presses the puzzle piece up against it with one hoof. "Moonbeam Writ is a lonely pony, apparently. But I'm getting mixed signals about whether he can control who enters." he remarks.

Splash Flaunt shouted into the cottage, "That's probable. If he had more control over who he pulled in, you'd think he'd have gotten out by now. It's likely we're missing something on our end."

Snowy passes the puzzle piece back to Scarlet, sets the snake down, and walks out of the cottage. "Be that as it may, we only know about the existence of manorspace because a policemare was directly pulled in. She didn't touch the mirror, or even look at it. Later entrants seemed to have been pulled in to retrieve her before she died, but further attempts to contact Moonbeam Writ have been royally unsuccessful. There's still some things left to try, though."

"Perhaps its light itself," Scarlet mused. "I mean. Mirrors show a flipped image of the world right. One you lift your right hoof, your reflection lifts its left hoof. So what if a flash of light reflected off the mirror, coupled with whatever these puzzle pieces are designed to do could...flip the two sides?"

Scarlet coughed uncomfortably.

"Uh, i think i really need to lay off the Daring Do."

Snowy shrugs. "It's not a bad theory. But the lighting conditions in there are about as good as they have been for the previous two absorptions. Both were underground." he stretches a bit, relishing the feeling of the sun on his coat again. He didn't think he was ever going to be completely comfortable in the dark again. "In any case, we should head back. We have a lot to report, and I need a library."

"Agreed," Scarlet. "Unless Ms. Flaunt Would prefer to avoid the disorientation of Wand travel and explore the swamp. I suggest asking the Wand of Incomparable Green if it would fast track us back up to Nightmare Heights.

Ms. Flaunt?"

Maple stood ready... she wasn't going to rush off this time, this time she was going to wait for orders, and with any luck at all nothing bad would happen to any more of her friends today.

Splash Flaunt frowned but still said, "I'll be fine with the faster route. We do have things to report, plus we don't want to be late getting back."

Grape Vine led Rhapsody, Amber Spark, Misty Monsoon, and Maplejack to town hall and into the room with the microphone. As she wove the Wand of Doubled Doubling at them, they felt a tingling sensation and saw each had an identical duplicate looking at them. After a brief period of disorientation, the STOMP team found that they could control each independently and looking through two sets of eyes felt as natural as looking through only one. Grape Vine nodded to them and they set off on their search, then turned to the microphone to make her announcement.

"This is Boss Vine speaking with an important message to all citizens of Petrichor Falls. As always, those who rob somepony in the Falls will have to deal with me. Several suspects just learned this the hard way. However, Boss Vine did not do this alone. Several brave ponies, visitors to this city, stepped in to aide us through this ordeal. And in this, I amend my main rule: If you are elsewhere, Caballuston is to be treated as if they are citizens here and you are not to try to rob them. Furthermore, none of the Equestrian Expedition Keep museums are to be stolen from either. There are many out there who would not lift a hoof to help us so I will NOT tolerate any citizens making a mockery of their kindness."

Snowy gently lifts the wand off the grass, where he'd left it before going inside. He had figured it might not be happier in the swamp reeds than surrounded by very dead wood. Can you take us back to Nightmare Heights? He asks gently.

With a hoof bump the Maples moved to individual Rhapsodies waiting for instruction

Static didn't dare to turn his head to look at Night Cap. It hurt to much. He looked left, it hurt. He looked right, it hurt. Up, down...no matter what, it hurt. So he just looked straight at the ceiling.

"Well, I flew twice and I teleported. So...I guess that was fun. Buuuuuut then I woke up and every single inch of my body was in pain. So...I guess it had it's ups and downs." He didn't even realize he made a joke until he thought about it a moment. "Heh! Quite literally."

He wasn't sure how to say the next bit. He didn't want to vilify Rhapsody. For one thing, she wasn't exactly in the wrong here. Rhapsody and Night Cap were both right...and they were both wrong.

Plus the fact that despite Static's best efforts at warning him, Night Cap refused to see how much Rhapsody didn't like him. Trying to convince him otherwise would cause him to immediately shut down.

So...how to broach the subject?

"Night Cap? You...you really saved my life there. I mean that. No exaggeration...I could not have taken another pounding like what they were giving me. You saved my life out there."

Static sighed deeply before the next bit. "So what I say, I say because I really and truly care. Unfortunately...you disobeyed orders...twice...in order to save me. It doesn't matter how Rhapsody writes her report, when Ms. Iron hears about it, you could be in some trouble."

"You did save my life though. And obviously the hostages in the vault weren't going anywhere while we cleared the coast."

"If I were you, when you meet with Ms. Iron...I'd go with that. It may mitigate the fact that you disobeyed orders...hopefully."

Static closed his eyes and hoped for a response.

[Please, for once, hear my warning and take it to heart. I couldn't stand to see you get into even more trouble because you tried to save me.]

The two Mistys look at each other, cock their heads in unison, and frown slightly.

"Hmm, I think I might need to get a manecut."
"Hmm, I think I might need to get a manecut."

That said, they both leave the town hall in opposite directions, proceeding through the city in a spiraling flight pattern.

[Maybe he's right. Ms. Iron can be quite reasonable. Surely when she sees why Night Cap did what he did...I mean...given some of my past...indiscretions?]

"I hope you're right. In any case, I am grateful. I wouldn't be here if you hadn't helped."

Static tried to turn his head to see Night Cap. *ping *wince*

"So, it looks like I'm probably going to be out of commission for a while. You ready to work the projection booth solo?"

"You know, this little expedition has been the most productive thing i've in, at the very least, the past two months. Since the two frelance jobs i had to research both lead to dead ends.

Its good to be back," Scarlet said with a smile.

"As you wish."
After short period of time, Scarlet Spectrum, Snowy Skies, and Splash Flaunt found themselves exiting flower blooms in Nightmare Heights.

Thank you. Snowy says gently. He has the terrible feeling that sooner or later, the wand will forget him. Where would you like to go? To Ms. Iron? To Veildfire Green?

None of you would be here if I didn't help.

"I'm sure I'll do fine. I'll just try not to do so well that they don't miss you."

Did Night Cap just attempt a humor, or did he just find a way to give himself permission to work less hard?

The world may never know.

"HAH! Haha...hnn...ugh! Oh cripes don't make me laugh. It hurts."

"Not laughing at your skill there. Just...my last boss...the one I had in in Manehatten...made it very clear to me just how replaceable I was. I just...hnn. He may have had a point. I was a rather different pony then than I am now. Heh! If only he could see me now."
Static had a good look at himself as he said that, beaten black and blue and laid up in a hospital. "Hmm, then again, maybe not."

Static rolled over to regard Night Cap again.

[Darnit! Stop...moving!!!!]

"Hey Night? Tell me if this sounds crazy. Whenever I'm back at the Keep doing the usual work stuff, I'm always wishing I was out on a STOMP mission doing something exciting. Whenever I'm on a STOMP mission, I wish I was back at the keep doing something less...dangerous. Is it possible I'm just royally messed in the head?"

[Well, you did jump out of a helicopter without a parachute.]

Try and search as they might, the STOMP team was unable to find where Casino Soufflé's associates were. Knowing that they were cutting it close to possibly missing the train home, they had to end the search. Meeting back up with Grape Vine, they headed to the bank. Grape Vine immediately addressed one of the tellers with, "Have you managed to take inventory?" "Yes boss. We found that outside of some of the money, the only thing missing is several of those charts and maps that didn't make any sense." "Just the maps?" "Yeah, everything else is accounted for, from the Veritable Violet Curtains of the Summer Empress to the Sixty Birch Draughts of the Great North. We've gotten most of it loaded onto carts so we can get the museum ponies to the train station before they're late."

"Veldfire Green would be much appreciated, Snowy Skies."

"Depends how you look at it. If you're the only one who can do something, you're irreplaceable. That's job security. Though...depending on the job and the consequences... I guess I can see how that kind of responsibility can be stressful."

"Veldfire Green would be much appreciated, Snowy Skies."

Snowy begins slowly walking back into the village, taking his sweet time. You really want to stay here, don't you? How long has this been your home?

Static nodded stiffly. "I know dreamwalking is a rather rare thing. But isn't there somepony else out there...maybe several someponies that may know what you're going through. Maybe you can make a support group or something...maybe a dreamworld STOMP team, if you will. Who knows? Maybe there's other dreamwalkers who feel the same way."

After shaking off the disorientation of Wand travel again. A disorientation that seemed a little less so this time. Scarlet strolled along after Snowy Skies.

"I do not know how long I've been here. I just feel it would be wrong for me to leave.

I can not make demands but I do have a request of you, Snowy Skies. I do not want another like Barometz to get a hold of a wand. It could spell disaster if used by someone with greater ambitions than he."

"Well then...maybe it's enough to know that they are out there. Maybe you can't contact them, talk with them...but they are out there. So, you're not totally alone in your job...right?"
