Shrugged off by Maple and not feeling at all free to concentrate on the business cards on the table, Amber finds herself staring at the two now silent and now wildly gesticulating ponies with everypony else. She'd been close enough to hear the opening salvos of the discussion, but the pair had become utterly silent. She shot a warning look at Snowy Skies. "Mr. Skies, if this is your doing, I do not think it very constructive." She slid off the bench from Rhapsody's side and stepped in between Rhapsody and Static. She narrowed her eyes at each of them. "Rhapsody, dearest, just what is going on here?", she asked, her tone wavering between conciliatory, genuinely uncertain, and slightly accusatory in equal turns.
Rhapsody looks to Amber and offers a smile. "I am sorry, love. Static and I were having a disagreement over my methods." She says, simplifying it and leaving out most the details, for what is the point of trying to keep it quit if she told everything? "I was trying to not to let it disrupt everypony else's conversations. It seems it still ended up doing such. We were pretty much at the end of it anyway." She says and trots back over to her seat.
Static rolls his eyes. He wanted to say more, but the argument had long since moved away from how Rhapsody was treating Night Cap and had just turned absolutely ugly. It had lost its purpose.
And to be frank, he was beginning to wonder if Rhapsody was worth wasting his breath over.
He spared a glance at Night Cap. He probably still saw Rhapsody as a friend. That was unfortunate. But Static had already warned him and it seemed to have fallen on deaf ears. He wasn't sure there was any more he could do for that situation.
Two faced, cold blooded...pfft! Whatever! He turned his attention back to his notebook.
Snowy looked up from tuning his lyre as Amber questioned him, and immediately recognized the signs of a muted conversation. "How long has this been going on?" He asks, as a general question to the group.
"I don't know Mr. Skies, but I'm tempted to give flying myself home a shot."
"So, a while, then." Snowy nods, and raises his voice so that it carries throughout the ship. "Well I'm not going into a cave with two people who would happily eat each other to survive." His tone turned sharp, and the whole room had an odd sense that the next sentence was spoken as he looked into their eyes with a knife at their throats. "You're both going to explain to me what this entire conversation was about. Top to bottom. Right now. One at a time. Whoever wants to go first can."
Static scowled. It was hardly any of as pays business. But if Night Cap happened to over hear.
We were talking rather loudly. I figured it was self explanatory...it...ory... He glared at Rhapsody. Audiomancer as well than, huh? Pony feathers, you magic users can be too liberal with your powers sometimes."
"I was telling her to lay off of Night Cap. She accused him of being a COIN double agent. Then it devolved from there."
Snowy levels a very sharp gaze at Static. "Top. To. Bottom. Devolved to what?"
"As I told Amber, Static disagrees with my methods. He doesn't like that I've not made instant friends with ponies I barely know. He thinks there is some moral high ground to be had because of it, especially having some wild hair about how it makes a difference on my ability to protect anypony, when I already told him that it doesn't matter if I like a pony or not, that I will still defend them like I would Amber. Most of you weren't with the first expedition. Amber, Night Cap, and Light all know the lengths I will take to keep the team safe. He considers me a 'cold hearted mule' because of it."
"Less ad hominem, more relating detail." Snowy comments. "Static? Comments?"
Static shrugged. "This is redundant. If it weren't for her pulling her magical crap, you'd already know what was said."
...
...
"FINE! Relationship issues. She'll protect us because it's her job. Me, I don't see how we can have a team that's worth a damn if we're only here because it's our job."
"I proceeded to tell her I view you all as family and she called me an idiot."
Snowy looks back and forth between them, letting the slightest hint of a perplexed expression cross his face. "So...you were both arguing over the proper motivation to protect people?"
