Increase of Spam Bots at This Site?

I've noticed that, in the past few days, several spambots have infiltrated this site and have posted multiple spam threads in most of the sub-forums here.

Also, even if I block them (which I have), their posts show under the "latest post" description under each sub-forum.

Please could this be fixed?

Spambots are now using "Guest" accounts, so we can't block/hide these users. Please could you remove this bot and check all threads for these bots? Also, please could you stop all guests accounts from being able to post? Thanks

I'll keep an eye on it. Guest accounts apparently can't be blocked, but my banhammer works just fine.

I encountered a similar problem recently at Disqus, and I think there was a way for the admin to stop guest accounts (or turn off the option of creating them)? Perhaps that's an option?

I think you have to understand this feature was enabled intentionally. I want the news forum to be more interactive in the hopes that fewer barriers will mean people will be more inclined to participate in the discussions. That's the only forum this is permitted in and I've added the extra step of mod approval before the message is posted after it's submitted.

Anyway, thanks for keeping an eye on things.
