October 24th Interview with Hamas official on Lebanese TV

"Israel is a country that has no place on our land. We must remove that country because it constitutes a security, military, and political catastrophe to the Arab and Islamic nation and must be finished. We are not ashamed to say this with full force."

"The Al-Aqsa Flood is just the first time, and there will be a second, a third, a fourth, because we have the determination, the resolve, and the capabilities to fight. Will we have to pay a price? Yes, and we are ready to pay it. We are called a nation of martyrs, and we are proud to sacrifice martyrs."

Hamas official: "The occupation must come to an end."
Reporter: "Occupation where? In the Gaza Strip?"
Hamas official: "No, I am talking about all the Palestinian lands."
Reporter: "Does that mean the elimination of Israel?"
Hamas official: "Yes, of course."

Ceasefire when?

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Ten thousand innocents bombed to ash & all we care about is waving a finger at the one Congressional who says it's a bad thing.
Well, since it's not americans doing the bombing, and biden has already asked for pause in fire: I honestly don't know what you're expecting.

Good. Rashida Tlaib smeared Joe Biden and Israel as committing genocide, giving a propaganda assist to Hamas, Iran, and every other enemy of the United States. And she used and lied about "from the river to the sea" a genocidal slogan about destroying Israel. She deserved this bipartisan rebuke and I'm glad enough Democrats did the right thing unlike when they last controlled the House and turned an admonishment against Illhan Omar's antisemitism into an "all lives matter" resolution.

It's long overdue frankly. When Tlaib and Illhan Omar were organizing their ill fated trip to Israel a few years back, they were trying to have the organization Miftah be their tour guides, a group with a history of posting Neo Nazi screeds and blood libel on their website.

But in the ensuing backlash, only a handful of conservative outlets took a skeptical look at Miftah — the pro-Palestinian non-profit organization that arranged Tlaib and Omar's since-scuttled trip.

Miftah's website has featured praise for Palestinian suicide bombers that have indiscriminately murdered civilians, an anti-Semitic treatise lifted from an American neo-Nazi website, and an article which claimed that the Jews use the blood of Christians during Passover — the eternally deployed "blood libel" against Jews.

The GOP may not have selfless or altruistic motives, but it's not a situation of good people being picked on by mean conservatives either.

Oh jeez. There's been so many modernized reboots of the blood libel that I wasn't expecting the group to be so originalist about it.

Multiple accredited journalists for the AP, Reuters, CNN, and other mainstream outlets sure look like they were embedded within the Hamas death squad on 10/7 so they could get the best pictures.

A pro-Israel group asked "How is it ethical for you to pay them for their 'work'?" and so far the responses have been "No we didn't help plan the attack."

So she seriously thought a sitting Florida Rep was tearfully defending…Hamas?

Nobody likes Hamas. hug Hamas. The ceasefire isn’t for Hamas’ benefit. Just an acknowledgment that this Bến Tre redux of "We had to destroy the village in order to save it” is merely going to ensure the conflict continues far into the future to both Hamas and hawkish Israelites benefit. Neither group being one that should be empowered.

It's obvious what she said, it's as bad as what Tlaib said and she should have been censured for it. There definitely are racist lunatics using this crisis to justify their gory revenge fantasies against Arabs in general. One guy in the Knesset said "our goal is another Nakba". An Israeli government minister said they should nuke Gaza (he at least was suspended for that). Lindsey Graham has said it should be totally demolished. We shouldn't have double standards, there are systems for reprimanding or removing such people and we should be using them.

Nobody likes Hamas. **** Hamas.

"Nobody likes Hamas" is clearly a false statement unless you've been living in a cave for the last month. When you have thousands upon thousands of people marching across the globe praising the martyrs, the freedom fighters, endorsing resistance by any means necessary, adopting as a symbol the silhouette of paragliders who butchered hundreds of concert goers, naming their protests a "Flood" after Hamas' moniker for their October 7th slaughter, the professors and student groups at universities lining up to justify and contextualize away everything on October 7th, etc. who do you think they're talking about and celebrating?

And on and on. I haven't been posting most of this stuff because it'd essentially spam the forum but maybe I should. That's not to lump everyone who would like to see a ceasefire, or heck, even everyone despises Israel's military and governmental policies in general, together as Hamas supporters. I don't believe that. But the last month has shown a shocking amount of support for Hamas itself and you don't even have to go selectively nutpicking to find it.

As for a ceasefire, there was one in effect on October 6th. Hamas has openly bragged they used the relative quiet of the past years in service of lulling Israel into a false sense of security so they could carry out something on the scale of October 7th. They have openly declared they will do it again. They have openly declared they want to destroy Israel and consider it all occupied territory. These aren't historical statements from a 40 year old charter; their triumphant spokesmen have told this to the press in the last 30 days and you can scroll back in the thread to see it.

Everything I've read by someone who tries to outline a ceasefire ranging from op-eds by British MPs in The Guardian to WaPo pieces boils down to Underpants Gnome logic. 1.) Ceasefire with deceitful, genocidal Hamas 2.) ??? 3.) Middle East Peace. If you have a different take I'd genuinely be interested in reading it. Nothing has changed about Hamas' goals from when they were blowing up pizzerias at the height of the peace process to last month when they were going house to house killing everyone they could find in southern Israel. Israel have laid out their condition for a ceasefire - release the 241 hostages. It's very reasonable, all things considered. Instead Hamas and their allies have floated releasing only dual-citizens to try and pry apart Israel and its allies, a handful of hostages here and there for major concessions and to dictate the pace of the battle, etc. People advocating for a ceasefire not conditioned at a minimum on Hamas releasing the hostages may not be doing so to serve Hamas, but it would serve Hamas' purpose to regroup and rearm while retaining significant leverage over Israel.

There's a reason you see people with as disparate foreign policy views as Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders aligning to say a ceasefire with Hamas is a bad idea, even when in Bernie's case he has denounced Israel's military campaign as too bloody and misguided.

Teufel why do you constantly equate any criticism of Israel as an attack on the Jewish people? Why? Why is this your hill to die upon? When you have the IDF bombing refugee camps with the cover story of "oh we thought there was a Hamas commander", cutting off all utilities to the area and causing babies to literally die in the NICU with the cover story of "we though there was a Hamas base in here" and utterly ignoring the millions of protestors who are protesting right now in Israel to call a ceasefire and stop this madness? Why? Why is this your hill to die upon?

Ironbite-because bro.....I'm tired of it.

You know better than that, Ironbite. The 9-letter word "criticism" is not a magic spell that makes racism go away. Teufel is talking about people supporting rape, infanticide, and genocide, and calling Israeli victims propaganda and crisis actors. You KNOW what Hamas does and what they stand for (I hope). And here are people saying they like it, they want more, and they want Israel - where half the Jews in the world live - to cease to exist. If someone said "I want to ban abortion because I'm pro-life," how likely would you be to conclude they were patriarchal misogynists who wanted women to die? What if they said women dying in botched abortions actually never happened?

Hey look, criticism of Barack Obama.

Way to just...wave away my post. Means so hugging much in this topic.

Ironbite-maybe I should just bomb a refugee camp and claim there's a terrorist somewhere in there to justify my actions.
