Nier Automata

So I was playing this before when I got caught up in other stuff and just never went back to it. But with the cross-over raids in Final Fantasy XIV and now the cross-over with Stellar Blade, I decided to give this another try tonight.

It was easier to get back into the controls than I thought it would be. I'm having fun with it. I have endings A, G, K, T and W. 9S just learned that humans are extinct.

I don't remember a whole lot of the story (as in, not much at all) from before I stopped playing. But I am enjoying it so far.

I know this is and old game, but Is there anyone one else still playing this?

The PS5 disc drive died, so I can't just pop it, but I had a lot of fun with it. Automata had enough of an impact that remembered how it played when I started Stellar Blade and... Yeah. They don't play remotely similarly, so that did not help with the opening.

I actually played the original Nier game way back it the day. For me, I was wondering if the Androids had somehow resurrected humans for a bit.

She's also in Soul Calibur VI. Unfortunately I neglected to take a screenshot.

Ah yes, 2Bun.

On topic, the Nier Automata anime is out. It also includes events from the prequel manga covering A2's backstory. It somehow gets even bleaker than the game at several points.

Is it on a streaming service? I tried looking for a bluray on Amazon and only came up with Crunchy Roll.

I now have A, B, G, K, T, W. If I'm not mistaken, I think that means I actually have two of the five main endings. That was rough.

Finishing the third route unlocks the chapter select, so you can get the rest of the 26 total endings much easier. Special note for ending Y:
It requires challenging an optional superboss in the desert and losing (specifically by letting it self-destruct after it takes enough damage); if you kill it, it won't respawn without starting the entire run over again, so it's the only ending that can be permanently lost.

Clearing the third route also unlocks a vendor in the Resistance camp that will literally sell you the game's trophies, if there's anything you just can't be bothered to actually do.

Soooooo, the bunker is destroyed. 2B looks to actually be dead dead. I'm now controlling A2.

This game certainly has its twists. I'm glad I finally came back to it.

*goes back to title screen*

Odd. Credits ran after the Bunker was destroyed as well as a brief title splash after A2 killed 2B. I also saved after all of that. But my save data only shows ending A, B, G, K , T and W just like before.

Oof! 2B is already dead and that's just the beginning? This is going to get really dark, isn't it?

Such is the Cyberpunk genre I guess. If it isn't existentialism it's nihilism. Can't say I didn't know what I was getting into.

still...

Wouldn't really call this game Cyberpunk. It's go philosophical leanings and androids, but those are hardly unique to cyberpunk. Huhn. For all that it's an action game, I'd more lump it in with golden age science fiction. Even a magical dragon being blown up over Tokyo in the backstory doesn't really change that.

Oh, was I the only person that expected that the androids created the aliens just so that they'd have an enemy to deal with?

The FFXIV crossover ended in a sad and confusing way, which is apparently very on-brand. I mean the epilogue bit, which you only got if you spent several week doing weekly tasks to help rebuild after the Dwarf community was damaged over the course of the main plot.

I saw spoilers, so I knew that at some point I would be given the choice to either kill Pascel, erase his memories or leave him to wallow in misery. I erased his memories. Knew the moment was coming at some point. Didn't make it any easier when it happened.

A, B, C, G, K, M, T, W done.

I did ending C with A2. Unfortunately, 9S was getting way too unstable and I don't think I would have liked playing with him. Although, it looks like now I can replay chapters...sooooo...

Caldwin, a minor spoiler that might help you decide to go through all the paths...

The final ending, E, is hopeful, bordering on happy. Things get bad, but not so bad that they can't improve.

Well, I just earned the platinum on Nier Automata.

<_<

Okay, fine, I bought a good number of them from the vender in the Resistance Camp. But giving the amount of money you have to grind, I'm still counting it as a win.

I'm on episode 5 of the series. But as far as the game goes, I think I'll leave it here for now. I'm sure at some point I'll bring it back out again and mess around with it. But until then....
