Odd question, does Core Vocanicus have a neck? It looked almost like Dinoking's head came up higher, but I can't tell if that's real or just an illusion caused by all the black plastic.

So I got SS86 Bumblebee today. Not sure if I like him. With how... square he is, he feels like an updo of the core Bumblebee.

Since I don't technically own the Netflix Bumblebee, here he is next to Yellow Cliffjumper

I do however have Buzzworthy Goldbug, and I suppose that kinda makes me feel better about SS86 Bumblebee, as Goldbug looks like he was completely rebuilt for his upgrade, rather then given a new head and paintjob:

My tastes have always skewed towards toy rather than Sunbow...
If SS 86 Bee was the first G1 Bumblebee since Classics I'd be all in on him but we have Netflix Bumbelee and a specially more Sunbow-y take just doesn't hit right.

But at the same time Netflix Bee had historically bad distribution so this is a pretty acceptable take to make up for that.

To me this is kinda weird, as with Goldbugs head, this would be the most toy accurate bumblebee we've gotten. His alt mode is very specifically the squat penny racer of the G1 toy. Netflix Bumblebee might look better overall, but he's not remotely close to the actual G1 toy. He's kinda the idealized Bumblebee.

I'm still just hoping this "similar to, but legally distinct from" VW will let them be more liberal with the repaints. I want Glyph and Bug Bite and Wasp and Volks and any number of repaints from this mold that they weren't willing to pay licensing fees for before.

That's a good point. I'm probably going to skip or at least delay Bee, but I'm hoping Glyph and Tapout finally get made, and if those are from versions of this mold, why not.

Aside: has anyone made like a proper injected plastic (or whatever, just not a 3d print thing) version of that upgrade kit bit that allowed the hatchback portion to be attached to the torso in transformation?

Other than the front end, it really isn't. Which is the big problem I have with this version and will not be buying it.

As others say, its feels like its trying to be legally distinct from a VW to not need a liscense, so I can't be "obviously" a sqaut VW Bug. The license is what makes Netflix Bee so unavailable. I'm surprised he even got the Goldbug repaint.

That's kind of how I feel about it. Like as a dumb child I knew what a VW Bug was but didn't realize Bumblebee was a deformed, squat version of it. In my mind I just accepted that Bumblebee was a VW Bug and left it at that.

Which means that Netflix 'Bee feels more like what I've always pictured the character as even though he's neither show or toy accurate.

Conversely I never saw VW Bugs but I sure did see Bumblebee a lot, so real Volkswagons are clearly the wrong shape.

I just saw the front of his car mode and knew what it was and my child brain just went "Bumblebee = VW Bug"

When I got Netflix Bumblebee I got this feeling like "yes this is the version that was always in my head" even though it wasn't accurate to either the toy or show.

While legal issues could contribute to it, I’d wager that another factor to the squareness is a future Cliffjumper retool.
Too bad it looks nothing like Cliffjumper either.

So, dumb but mildly interesting thing - yeah, that bomb that came with Studio Springer is way too big for him, just so he can hold it, but it's just about the right size for...whatever the hell this third party one was I got years ago. I think it was called Allen but I'll be damned if I remember who made it. Doubt it'll be useful info to anyone else, but maybe it'll at least be entertaining.
