Mulling a bit on what we see in this trailer, I'm a bit uncertain as to how I feel about this special just blatantly killing off Trini in cold blood, rather than just calmly saying that she passed away years ago and having Minh already training to be her successor.
I'm also unsure how to feel about it since the trailer clearly wants us to think that she was killed in action while still morphed and thus while still connected to the Morphin Grid. The timing of such a decision couldn't be worse when we just came off of a season that literally ended with Zayto being killed in action, still morphed, still connected to the grid, and thus able to eventually come back to the land of the living after being joined as a part of the grid for a time. The same thing had previously happened to Kendrix back in Lost Galaxy, and arguably to both Gem and Gemma briefly back in RPM.
In a sense, the TV series just recently established the idea that rangers who are killed as rangers aren't perma-dead but instead become one with the Morphin Grid until such a time when they are allowed to return to the real world (unless they choose not to and remain resting in peace, as was apparently the case with the first Magna Defender)... only for this special to come about right on the heels of that establishment, and seems to instead be treating ranger death as perma-death.
Also, there better darn well be some mention, reference, or acknowledgement of the Mystic Mother in this. She's canonically what Rita became after her purification at the end of In Space, and has canonically been that since 2006, nearly 17 years now.
And, minor thing, but, "revenge"? Against the MMPR rangers? Rita and Zedd beat them. It took them three years, but they won. MMPR ended on a cliffhanger ending with Rita and Zedd triumphant. She doesn't need revenge on them. She got it decades ago. Methinks this Robo Rita has a few crossed wires.
