Dino Fury season 1 review by The Disney Brain:

Two random thoughts/questions I had earlier:

1) Do they still use Super Sentai cockpits in Power Rangers? I remember hearing they didn't some years ago, I think for Samurai, so they could give them more toys to sell while in there. And I notice they haven't really changed much since...

2) Have there been any parody Super Sentai series, a la CarRsnger, since that one came out in Japan? (Not counting the one that had the red and green ZyuRanger appear with American flag-decorated costumes; that was non-canon, wasn't it?) If so, did any of them get brought over as Power Rangers seasons?

I definitely disagree on the comic relief. Ben and Betty were dumb comic relief but I didn't mind much because they were likable characters. The robot girl and boss in this season are awful comedy and badly acted and annoyingly characterized. They are the worst part of this show.

I also think he's being way to hard on the DF Red Ranger and reading way too strongly and negatively into his story.

-ZacWilliam, I like Dino Fury. The villains are a lot of fun and the Rangers are likeable and feel at least a hair deeper than those from Beast Morphers (which I did also enjoy).

They started using non-Sentai cockpits in Samurai and have continued to do so ever since, with Megaforce and Super Megaforce being the only exceptions as those were the Goseiger and Gokaiger cockpits in Sentai footage.

However, Beast Morphers is a bit of a gray area since the cockpits in that series were created for Power Rangers but were exact recreations of the cockpits from Go-Busters. Why they did this instead of just using the original Sentai footage if the cockpits were the same is because a large amount of Go-Busters cockpit footage was of the Go-Busters piloting their mecha while unmorphed, making it unusable for Beast Morphers.

Other than the aforementioned non-canon Akibaranger, there have been no Sentai parody series since Carranger. Some series have had more light-hearted comedy than others, but have otherwise maintained a non-parody status.

While it's not a Sentai (and I don't think Toei even owns it), I'll mention Kanpai Senshi After V as a parody series, too. It's about a bunch of Rangers going out drinking after missions, with the most kind-hearted supervillain/bar worker you'll ever meet. It's incredibly cheap, but the characters are a lot of fun. If you're up for a toku without any real action and just comedy, you can do worse. There's NO chance of this getting adapted into a Power Rangers season, though.

There's also Dogengers, but that is COMPLETELY it's own thing. A fun show to check out, though.

And, like Sabrblade says, some shows do lean into the comedy more. The currently running Zenkaiger seems to be having fun with some of their past Sentai references (that Jetman reference...). And it's worth noting that the season that became RPM, Go-Onger, was MUCH more light hearted.

That Jetman reference, for people who have no idea what I'm talking about...(Spoilers for the ending of Jetman)

An ancedote I recall from a review on that series; the EP was hired becuase he had binged a large volume of PR and created what he felt was the perfect adaption formula, based on what seemed to work and didn't work, that could be applied to any sentai series for success... And then he seen Go-Onger and was like "How the f* am I gonna adapt this?"

From Linkara's RPM review, yes.

Ah, thanks for the answers (I thought my questions were going to be overlooked).

The cockpits have mostly been same-y for a while until Beast Morphers, so after seeing Dino Fury's, I wasn't sure if that was down to western production, or if Toei took a page from their book.

And I can't believe I forgot about RPM, which is like my favorite stand-alone series! Maybe not parody, but after remembering how CarRanger sort of wrecked things for Turbo after Zeo breathed new life into the brand, I was wondering how they handled that kind of thing since.

That sounds neat! Not sure when I'd have time for it, but if I do, is there any convenient way to watch?

Well, I believe fansubs are the only way to go. I don't believe we're allowed to post links to "questionable" material like that. But...there's a certain Organization that Archives things on the Internet that might be able to get you what you want. Two seasons of 12 episodes each, the first season and then "Shin" Kanpai Senshi.

Have a question, and maybe it's better suited for the Toy and Action Figure thread, but I thought I'd try here first -- in case anyone can help with my specific problem.

A few years ago (more than a few, really), my wife got me the PR Legacy Collection Saba. I love it... and I've had it in its box in the closet for most of the duration, because I had no good way to display it.

Well, we've been doing some renovating, and hey, now would be a great time to right this little wrong!

Only thing is, I'm not sure which stands would or wouldn't be good for the job, and I was hoping maybe someone here would have some good first-hand recommendations. I mean, I see various sword displays on Amazon, but I can't help but look at them and wonder "will it fit?"

the first entry in the Zord Ascension Project is now open for preorder.

at $166 it's essentially a Titan-class Megazord.

All that and the Saber-toothed Tiger's wheels look to still just be solidly molded onto the legs instead of separate free-spinning pieces.

Rita's up on Battle for the Grid. So far she's been fun to play. But still wish it would have been the Movie ex Ranger Rita instead.

As much as it is kinda odd with a lot of Rangers fighting Rangers it has been fun to get some of the villains in. I kind of hope we see more coming, I honestly didn't expect this game to last as long as it has. Can I get Astronema in here!
