Rare, never-before-seen concept material from years past

To be fair, what Hasbro gave us was infinitely more affordable.

And only that Megatron and Unit-3 (and I did want that Reflector and Airazor!) were really what I'd call worth convention prices. Some of the others were neat ideas or pairings of colors and molds that might have been nice from a different channel, but not at what those prices were turning into.

(To be fair, given the things Botcon has to navigate and negotiate, they tend to lapse into some weaker and stronger years, and this is one of those that's a mixed bag. That 2017 proposal is GORGEOUS and I want all of it.)

Boy, that's certainly something I don't miss. For all the saturation we're dealing with now, I am incredibly grateful to no longer only be able to get certain releases of varying coolness and desirability only after jumping through serious geographical and financial hoops. I look at TFSS Toxitron, or G2 Starscream, or Thrustinator, or Treadshot, or indeed that TM3 Megatron, and I just have to make my peace with simply never being able to afford them. But I can look back at all the stuff we've been spoiled with since 2019ish that's just... At retail, or a store exclusive, or caught up in the pandemic supply weirdness at most, and be glad that whether it's Cordon or Masterdominus or T-Wrecks or Zetar or Antagony or Detritus, the process of anticipating and acquiring them didn't age me threefold (it's the 2020s, so other things did instead).

(This is not the fault of the club.)

Even more than the "damn, I wish that had gotten made!" (thanks to all involved in archiving these btw), that's what I really come away from this thread feeling.
You know when you give a gift to someone and they respond "oh, you shouldn't have?"

FunPub really, really shouldn't have.
Even when it comes to figures I'll never be able to afford, I still appreciate it when effort is made over no attempted effort at all.

Like, with my current financial situation, chances are high that I'll never get to own MP Dinobot or MP Beast Wars Megatron with how they're currently priced. But I'm still glad that they exist and can at least enjoy them vicariously.

Hasbro doing nothing at all to celebrate Beast Wars's 20th anniversary was very poor show of them for 2016.

While I agree I think I tend to be more forgiving for a few reasons. First, a new team was just starting to get their feet under them and changing plans was probably not ideal given how they wanted to focus on the Prime Wars trilogy.
Secondly, they apparently didn't know just how beloved BW was in some parts of the fandom, given their surprised reaction to Optimus Primal winning the fan vote for PotP.

In fairness to them once they got that message, they moved to address it. They switched gears on the third leg of the WfC trilogy, making it a Beast Wars tribute line, and continued the BW love into Legacy. No, none of this lined up with a significant BW anniversary, but the new figures still happened, and that shouldn't be discounted.

I've been very impressed by how Hasbro has handled this stuff since FunPub lost the licence. Everyone- rightfully- assumed that the deep cuts would end without an official collector club, but between Gen Selects, various capsule exclusives, and even retail lines, Hasbro's been very committed to the deep cut releases.
And because it's Hasbro and established retailers they're easier to get then exclusives from a collector's club operating off of an older business model.
The fact that I could buy a toy, at fuckin Walmart, that said 'Diaclone Universe' on the box is just

Imagine going back in time just 10 years ago and telling someone in the fandom that 'Yeah that'll be a thing that happens'.

Well, 10 years ago we got Crosscut. No mention of Diaclone, but still.

But Crosscut isn't Diaclone, not like Burnout, Lift-Ticket, Guard, Breaker, or Wrecker Twin-Twist are.
Yeah. Sure Crusscut started off as a nameslap onto a Diaclone deco, but T30 Crosscut wouldn't have happened if IDW didn't use him as a B-level character. T30 was all about the IDW-inspired designs and the fact that Crosscut was used and they had an IDW Skids mould was why he happened.

But Burnout, Lift-Ticket, Breaker, Guard, Twin-Twist, Exhaust, Overcharge, Spin-Out, Cordon, Tigertrack, Clampdown, and Deep Cover? When was the last time any of them got a named role in non-niche fiction? We still got 'em though, and some of them at Walmart! That's insanely cool.

That SG Megatron kinda makes we wish we had a full SG Combiner. Like maybe Soundwave from Ironhide or First Aid, Sideswipe from Wildrider; and maybe for scale; Jetfire from Silverbolt, or maybe Cyclonus and we get SG Galvatronus :p

in the last year, i used the club's skyfall and flywheels designs for customs and added both to my collection

Are we not counting the Action Toys figures for this?
This proposal was more along the lines of Missing Link, keeping all the original toy proportions and transformation engineering but with modern levels of articulation added in. What Action Toys did was more akin to CHUG or Masterpiece.

Love seeing these.

BTW, does anyone have the files for SG Megatron's instructions? I still have yet to get a chance to put mine together, and I seem to have lost that stuff.
