On the one hand, the Allspark is a part of the expanded Transformers mythology (though it's portrayal gets a bit jumbled between continuities), so I guess it helps elevate the story beyond "these robots based on toys show up and then they fight".

On the other hand, every story being some huge conflict over near-mythical relics that might end the world as we know it gets...tiresome? Sometimes it's the small conflicts and little victories that are more fun just because of the simplicity and more personal nature. Maybe some stories where the Autobots and Decepticons battles effect specific people; something along the lines of 80s TV shows like A-Team, Knight Rider, and Airwolf, where the conflict of the week isn't always a global affair.

Beast Wars is still the example they ought to be following. It did big events that tied in to Cybertronian history, but they felt big because it started with a smaller, more personal conflict just fighting over energy. They were in way over their heads when the larger stakes revealed themselves, and they still did what they had to do.

If the story starts with them fighting over the Allspark, it is no big deal the next time they're fighting over the Allspark.

Though, to be a little fair, when Beast Wars got to the point of its big events, those big events were about maintaining the existence of G1, which was "the most important thing ever" to many fans at the time (and still is to some to this day). Because Beast Wars was trying to maintain that most important thing, that made Beast Wars feel important only by extension.

Imagine if Beast Wars Seasons 2 and 3 had never led up to the reveal of the Ark and Nemesis, and instead stuck to telling their own stories with new and original concepts like the Vok or the political intrigue that was going on back on Cybertron at the time. I doubt it would have felt quite as "BIG" without that urgent feeling of "Don't let the Predacons erase my precious G1!" going on in many fans' minds.

Nah. If you never watched G1 (which was the case for much of its audience) it still works, because the characters' knowledge of G1 is also very limited. They don't know the details of the past events they're fighting over. They are fighting for their own lives, which we care about because the characters are good.

In some ways Beast Wars probably works better if you aren't familiar with G1, because then you don't need silly fixfics about Optimus Prime having a fake Matrix in front of the real Matrix. You can just watch and enjoy.
