Thanks for the link! Would be a fun listen. Can't wait for it to reach the Ian Flynn era.
I kind of wonder how many videos this series will end up being with how LONG the first video was.
I COULD see issues 77-159 AND the Knuckles comic being combined all into one video. That way he gets all the pre-Ian comics done in one more video. Maybe the Knuckles comics will be split up into their own video...but plotlines in those comics DO end up flowing into the main book later on, anyway. ESPECIALLY during Penders' run.
Then how do you split up Ian's run? Is he going to cover all of Sonic Universe, too? That's...A LOT of comics. I'm tempted to say you should split Ian's Archie run into two videos at least. One Pre-Lawsuit/Reboot, and another Post. But, do the Mega Man crossovers deserve their own video? What about Sonic Boom? Do you need 3 videos just for Ian's run on the comic? The first up to around the lawsuit problems, a second talking about the Penders lawsuit and the crossover and the aftermath, and a final one about the final days of the Archie comic.
And then there's the curious case of the Sonic X comic. The LAST issue crosses over with the first issue of Universe. And El Gran Gordo DOES get referenced in the Off Panel strips in the back of the comics. But, it's probably THE most skippable of the Sonic comics. Do you even bother with Sonic X?
It'll be interesting to see just how far down this hedgehog-hole he goes.
I went down the Sonic YouTube black hole and saw some vids saying Ian Flynn's writing isn't that good for the franchise or something. Uh, what? Flynn has been an amazing storyteller. Is there really a negative camp out there?
Unfortunately, yeah, there is a section of the fandom that really doesn't like Ian. When you're on a book for over a decade, some people will always want something different. And there's even a few conspiracy theorists who think Ian has a stranglehold over the comic or something. Some even go so far as to think that he "made up" the Sega Mandates. I think the fans outnumber the naysayers, but there's always some people who just won't stop ranting about what they hate.
Saw a video rumor that IDW is losing Transformers and Sonic license. If Flynn is still onboard, he'll be reseting the universe again under a different publisher?
Well, IDW already lost the Transformers and GI Joe licenses. I don't THINK there's been anything concrete about them losing the Sonic license. But, IDW...has had it's problems over the years. And recently, it seems they're trying REALLY hard to have more of their own franchises instead of relying on licenses as much. But, I think anything else right now is just speculation. As far as I know right now, IDW still has the Sonic license for the foreseeable future.
BUT...if IDW DOES lose the license...there really isn't any reason a new publisher COULDN'T just pick up where IDW left off. If the comic doesn't end because of yet ANOTHER person suing Sega to get their characters again, I would think there wouldn't be any reason a new publisher couldn't just use the team they've created for this current comic. Legally, IDW was better off rebooting after Archie. But, there wouldn't be that same problem after IDW, theoretically.
But, that's if the publisher WANTS to do the same thing. Maybe a new publisher would want to focus on the Movie-verse, instead. Or would just have their own spin on the comic they'd want to try. It's hard to say.
But, I wouldn't worry too much right now. Probably. Hopefully. *SIGH*
