Studio Series 86 Appreciation Thread

Not a bad choice, what with the 40th coming up and all. I love Earthrise Prime, but my hope at the Commander pricepoint would be that the trailer would be better-proportioned, include Roller, Matrix, gas nozzle, missles, etc. Beyond that, and seeing how it is a movie toy, I would expect maybe an interchangeable battle-damaged chest / head, and perhaps even a gurney to lay him down on (because, "I fear...the wounds are...fatal").

ER definitely needs some changes to the bot as well. It's frustrating how off the proportions are when Siege already had them right.
THANK YOU! Every time I look at ER Prime, I can't help but wonder how they messed the shape of his robot mode when Siege Prime's robot mode was so much closer to the look of Optimus's cartoon model. It's why I chose to skip both Earthrise and Kingdom's releases and the only WFCT-molded Optimus I picked up was Tenseg Base Optimus (whose robot mode is also much more accurate than ER Prime).

I prefer ER's redesigned shoulders, and it's crazy impressive that they managed to include the Matrix while shoving so much of the truck into the chest. The way that toy absorbs the truck's mass is just incredible.

But so much else is a step backwards. Siege's proportions are better, and the transformation allows it to have the apparently mandatory Dreamwave feet without being wrong in vehicle mode. It's a clever trick.

Meanwhile I'm just here like: ER Prime looks fine and y'all must be turbo nerds to think otherwise. Go touch grass or sumn.

It looks fine in very stiff poses. Start moving the hips and it quickly turns into a nightmare.

It would have to be pretty spectacular to get me to pay for another G1 Optimus, as I'm pretty happy with ER Prime + the accessories from the Centurion pack. Not that it would be coming from Studio Series, but the only surefire way to get me to buy a Commander Class Optimus is for it to be of the Powermaster persuasion.

ER is going to be tough to beat, same with Legacy Armada as both are great figures, so what I would expect is this to have more posabilty and can do the hand gengesters that OP does in the movie, such as when he talking to Ironhide!

Same. He's perfect to my eye. Maybe his legs are A BIT long but it's a very minor quibble.

I'm sure the Commander price point will let them do all kinds of nifty things, but SS86 makes me think it'll lean heavy into the Sunbow accuracy which is no buys from
me.

I just realized that a SS86 Optimus is going to have that post S1 head design that I'm not quite as keen on.

That said, I'll echo what others have said about ER Prime being great but not without flaws. So this definitely has piqued my interest.

Ah, I see. Earthrise Optimus is now old enough that actually he was Terrible all along.

ER Op is like MP-10, he's an amazing figure; but that doesn'y mean he can't be improved on. That said, this is gonna have to do some very amazing things to make bite. IMO Rodimus Prime is the weakest of the Commander Class toys, becuase he's basically just the original toy, but with an actual transformation. Yeah he's complex and cool and I don't feel like he wasn't worth the money; but I can't see a 86 Optimus being much different. He might be more complex with more moving parts, and maybe a trailer they can actually fit the other Autobots; but he's just going to be an upscaled ER Prime, even if a completely new mold.
