Super 7: Ultimates, ReAction, etc

Mostly QC issues of various sorts and finishes that don't reflect the original renders. Like most of their Godzilla stuff has been VERY shiny gloss. I only have their rose Biollante, which I really LIKE, but it is very dark compared to the plan, and the gloss is rather odd for a plant, much less a giant monster for the other ones. I do have a few of their glow in the dark Ninja Turtles villains (Baxter, Mutagen Man, Slash) and they're great, and the Pinky and the Brain they put out were awesome, as was the Ape Man from 2001. The trouble is, my experiences haven't been the general rule, with things like joints, paint, etc all having issues here and there, and other companies have started making similar products for less without as many problems.

I'd heard as much, with the Ultimates stuff like the Samurai Leo. And some of their other offerings are pretty (the Disney stuff looks amazing!). But the second coming bit?

Part of that is expectations they made and then didn't meet, and gave every impression that they WOULD meet before products arrived. Like the Action Master partners packed with some of the Ultimates, in some cases some functionality was maintained, but usually through parts swapping, no actual transformation. Even in cases like Banzi-tron where it certainly LOOKS like it should transform, but it's been made not to, even though all pegs are there to have made it work. If you go a few pages back you can see some of the local reviews, and TFW has a huge thread on it if you can get past the usual rant-postings that don't add anything. In non-TF stuff, Silverhawks had some well known breakages right out of the box, finish trouble, issues with faces, etc. It looks like it is beginning to impact them, recently a lot of very unique offerings that had no parallel for any other company ranging from Power Rangers to D&D got cancelled, in many cases because fans were hesitant to preorder till they saw the real thing, and that didn't generate enough orders to actually go through with the run. They supposedly lost the Disney and Simpsons licences (which is unfortuante, as their Mad Hatter and Mickey were great, I got those for my nephew) and I suspect the same happened with Animaniacs as I got the three Warner Brothers and a spare Pinky and the Brain set for him for Easter coming, but that was months ago and I haven't heard a thing about a Wave 2 since.

I'm gonna dispute that. Super 7 has done "playsets" before, and they're all like this. Yes, it's lame and not what most people want, but it's totally in line with their previous efforts to do playsets for other properties.

I was referring more to the more complex figures, though that's a good point on the playsets/stands. On that note, I think that's the exact same 'desert' baseplate as the Ark one.

I pretty much just buy ReAction from Super7:

Godzilla, because they push my nostalgia button for the old Trendmasters 4" versus packs. They are decent representations of the kaiju at that scale.

GI Joe, (somewhat) for unique characters (Raven the Stratoviper and Tiger Force Shipwreck) and troop builders (Cobras and Greenshirts, troops don't need to have a full range of motion most of the time; see also: Stormtroopers and cardboard standees). Mostly on clearance, but depending on how the new articulated ReAction+ figures turn out, I may buy more of these.

Transformers, but only when I catch them on clearance, with the exception of Prototype Unicron.

And I did shell out for Ultimates Tarn, but only for the Nickel figure that came with it, which was likely the only official Nickel figure we were going to get. Tarn is still locked in his plastic tray, but Nickel is a decent, albeit non-transforming, representation of the character.

Overall, I think their ReAction offerings are pretty decent, but most of their other product lines are more hit-or-miss. I'll be curious if they expand the ReAction+ lineup to include vehicles, what the quality will be like...

I've been hoping for years that someone will do a weather dominator and a M.A.S.S. device, simply because the only ones I know of where build-a-figure type things from 20 years or so ago.

I've liked the look of a handful of their original villain stuff, but the iffy experience I had with Banzai-tron has kept me from pulling the trigger on it.

That aside, they do make some mighty nice packaging.

I have both of those, and somehow managed to get all the peripheral stuff to "complete" the set. The Weather Dominator is a little iffy at staying together (which kinda tracks), but the cool thing is the base of the M.A.S.S. device was made to hold the Weather Dominator instead to make it more of a complete weapon.

It sounds like there's some kinda M.A.S.S Device themed something coming soon from Hasbro, but likely will be Classified scale, so it would be cool if Super7 made new 3-3/4" scaled ones.

EDIT: the M.A.S.S box was not as hard to get out as some of my collection:

Other than the hinge on the Weather Dominator base assembly, any other movement comes from connections made to allow movement. It's mostly just sculpted detail on solid plastic parts, easily within Super7's wheelhouse. It would be cool if they could reissue this or just engineer a new one to go with the ReAction+ figures.

I don't generally buy the Super 7 stuff but I have made exceptions for the original release Unicron, the Japanese/Prototype color version, and will probably pick this one up as well.

I've held off on the Unicron so far, but this looks like a good one to get.
