Yeah, it's over. I'll even say the ending was pretty good. I was misting up a little by the end. It was bittersweet.
Because this isn't just the end of a TV show. And it's not just an end of a era. It's a end to a way of life.
(Yes. I AM being over-dramatic. Shut up. I'm having a moment, here.)
Because a long-standing institution has finally come to a end. A nearly unbroken line of WB Live Action DC Comics shows is over. After more than 23 years. And with Superman & Lois over, I don't think I have a reason to watch the CW anymore.
It all started with Smallville, way back when the CW was called The WB. And it's kind of fitting that it all ends with Superman & Lois. They are fitting bookends to this legacy.
I wasn't there for it all. I was only a occasional watcher of Smallville and Arrow. I only really got into these shows when the Flash premiered. But, I appreciate all the ways it pioneered a television landscape for other shows.
....Goodness, so much of it was terrible. Just pure trash.
The nearly nonexistent budgets. The endless teen angst. The endless brooding on rooftops and alleys. The endless string of Speedster villains. Brainiac 5's sickly pallor. Caitlin Snow's nearly nonsensical character arc. The same rookie time travel mistakes happening time and time again. The endless teasing of Green Lantern that never happened. Lex's laughable hair.
...Goodness, I'm really going to miss ALL of it.
Including the good times.
The JSA and Legion showing up in Smallville. Stargirl. Beebo. Gary. Making Vibe happen. XS. Barry and Iris. Lois and Clark. Tom Cavanagh (Harrison Wells) playing approximately half the cast by volume. Crisis on Infinite Earths. The Super Sons with extra curly fries.
...Yeah, I'm defintitly going to miss this era of television.
Because, for better or for worse, we probably won't see something like this again. Entertainment is changing. And that's okay. I doubt we'll see a universe get this sprawling and crazy again. And I will think back on it fondly. It gave me a lot of entertainment over the years.
Good times. These past 23 years did indeed...go by too fast.
