These people are literally orphaning their kids. There's going to be an entire generation that's going to be traumatized by this.

Been checking out the HermanCainAward subreddit (and apparently there's at least one other that treads the same ground). It's schadenfraude, I guess, but so many of us are deservedly just done with all this life-threatening contrarian nonsense.

The worst part of the whole tragedy is that the impact could have been MUCH reduced if people would have listened to actual experts in the field instead of random talking heads on YouTube and Facebook with dubious credentials.

Ten'll get you twenty this is going to be the anti-vaxxers' counterpoint, completely ignoring the difference in population numbers.
This has been the argument forever -- the skewed "the flu is worse than this" idea -- bolstered by things like conveniently ignoring the population difference, insisting the actual cause of death is pneumonia or another comorbidity (because people die of blood loss, not gunshot wounds, right), and so on.

Even if we were to say that percentage of the population matters more than total count—which, frankly, it does if you're really going to be honest about it—the big difference is that we were vastly better equipped to deal with a pandemic now than a century ago. The first flu vaccines weren't invented until the 1930s; we developed a working vaccine for COVID-19 barely a year after its discovery. You couldn't force a whole country into quarantine in the days before the internet. And I bet they hadn't even invented a mask that can reliably filter viruses back then.

Now, we have all those options, and the only reason at all that anyone is still spreading this damn thing is that so many people just refuse to use them.

True, true.

We actually lucked out in many respects (well, slim silver linings) due to how the factors came together. One, this was a coronavirus, which has been studied and examined closely for some time. Two, mRNA research and development was as far along as it was when this hit. Three, multiple big countries saw the worth of pouring money and effort into the process of developing vaccines (and thus ended up pulling along those who might have been on the fence). All these factors removed a lot of the typical stumbling blocks and delays to vaccine/treatment development; if this had been a more complex, less-understood virus, or had happened years before, we'd be in a lot deeper doodoo.

To ignore and reject all of that in favor of regurgitating meme-spread nonsense with absolutely no factual bases whatsoever is just ignorance by choice.

Alberta's doctors have been screaming at the provincial government: We need another lock down, We need the military to help with the ICUs, and prime minister kenny is absolutely refusing to do anything. When questioned, he states that things are fine and references canada's overall vaccination rate to justify his complete and utter apathy as his population literally dies.

Dude needs to be removed before anyone else is killed by his psychopathy. It's the only way to get the population the resources and protection it currently needs.

I've long since given up any pretense of feeling sorry for these idiots. I do feel bad for the medical personnel who have to try to take care of them, though.

Pretty much. With some many of these trump loving, anti-vax morons kicking the bucket daily, and the pleas from the survivors literally falling on deaf ears: we've grown entirely acclimate and apathetic to their deaths.

He wants to be stupid? fine, one less ass out there to spread the virus or incubate a new variant.

Big problem: there are so many Covidiot nominees for the Darwin Award that they're all gonna cancel each other out.

The problem is he's still going to run to the hospital and take up a bed and resources if things go south and the virus starts shredding his lungs. There is only a handful of people willing to die at home to make a point and most of those cases were in states where the hospitals were full.

The things is: these macho freaks are only macho... while they feel perfectly hale and hearty to begin with. This ass was going to take up space in a hospital on his deathbed, regardless of the pandemic. Heart attack, stroke, disease, drug overdose: it all ends the same way. Him hooked into all the machines his insurance will pay for and looking like a background actor in the matrix. If he's conscious, he might even be reconsidering his choices up till now.

Does it suck MORE with the pandemic? Yeah. Is he taking up space for someone useful and beneficial to society: absolutely. But he has the same right to fill that bed as anyone else until the triage conditions the idiocy of him and his asylum bedmates forces the hospital to send him home to die.
