The New TFwiki Discussion Thread (2023)

This is the Allspark's new thread to discuss any "meta" issues about the Tfwiki website.

Please understand that this is not an official method to contact the Tfwiki site, or its mods/admins/users. It is rather a place to record observations or discuss the site in lieu of (or instead) of any direct/official channels (if and when needed).

To get the ball rolling, here's an issue I had recently:

- As of yesterday, no searches with "tfwiki" appear in Duck Duck Go's results page. The only one that is ok is "tfwiki.net", nothing else.

Huh, that's weird. Just searching 'tfwiki' didn't link to the wiki, and searching for 'tfwiki.net' doesn't either, but it does show this post as the #3 result:

It might have been the site's robots.txt, which was set to not give their crawler permission to index the site. Even though that hasn't changed in eons and their crawler was indexing it anyway. I've added permissions for them, so that might fix it.

Hard to say - it sounds like DDG sources data from Bing, and I discovered that TFWiki wasn't showing up on Bing either.

A test I did just now on both Bing and Duck Duck Go had the site appear in search results, so hopefully it's now fixed.

Thanks folks. I wasn't sure how to contact Tfwiki, as I couldn't find any contact info at the site.

It seems to be working on the search results now. I clicked on the link I used in my original post and...

Great work! I still like this story, so it's nice to see it get this kind of attention.

Oof. That was barely more than a stub at that point.

That's quite a project.

Thanks. Though, truth be told, the majority of work was done back in 2016-2017, with some touch ups made in the years since (one big one made earlier this year due to my also having given individual articles to every installment of Apelinq's War Journals back in the summer). It was only this year that I decided to submit RTOP for nomination.

Original AWJ page for comparison. Then the page as it was from 2017-2023. The current version individual articles is linked above.

And, just for fun, there was a time when all four Omega Point prose stories ("Herald", "Covenant", "Schism", and "Paradox") were all originally on the same page! o_O

This is why people think this story is more confusing than it is. TFWiki's coverage needed work.

Other noteworthy things I've worked on in recent years, for anyone interested.

With the new reveals of the Amazon-exclusive Barrage & Chop Shop, it feels relevant to share the news that the wiki now has a full article for Beetras.

Why was the ladybug ever named Beet-Papil anyway? "Papillon" is French for "butterfly".
The article provides a possible answer for that.

Did some busywork in the past few days.

Uploaded a new image file for the Zone Base, swapping out this potato-quality thumbnail...

With this:

20240502061913%21Zonebase.jpg

...But then that turned out to have been sourced from an AI upscale, so I switched it to this blurrier one sourced from a DVD rip:

Also updated the following pics of Athenia. Before:

After:

(Yes, those are the same planet. o_O)

Wrote up a proper toy write-up for the canceled Hasbro release of Car Robots Brave Maximus as Robots in Disguise Fortress Maximus:

Added four images to the fossil chamber article, which previously had no images at all. The top two were also also newly-uploaded by me:

Fossil_chamber_Survivor.jpg

Fossil_chamber_The_Key.jpg

Did some modest updates to the Organic core article, including finally uploading a proper image of it:

Cybertron%27s_organic_core.jpg

And, lastly, created a new article for the underground amphitheater that served as the Maximals' first major headquarters in Beast Machines, and was then taken over by Tankor after the Maximals abandoned it for a new base in the fossil chamber:

Complete with this new pic uploaded for it:

I have a surprise for everyone.

After two long months of long hard work, I have created a new archive on the wiki.

An archive of nearly every single post ever made on ATT by Beast Wars story editors Bob Forward and Larry DiTillio, as well the at-the-time Director of Communications for Mainframe Entertainment, Mairi Welman. And then some!

https://tfwiki.net/wiki/Source:Alt.toys.transformers

Throughout the late 1990s and into the 2000s, Beast Wars cartoon story editors Larry DiTillio and Bob Forward, as well as Mainframe Entertainment Director of Communications Mairi Welman, maintained frequent contact with members of the ''Transformers'' online fandom via the Usenet newsgroup alt.toys.transformers, establishing an interactive relationship between themselves and the early online fandom, in which they provided fans with greater insight about the ins and outs of working on the ''Beast Wars'' cartoon and working in the entertainment business in general.

The following is an archive containing copies of nearly every single post ever made on alt.toys.transformers by Mr. DiTillio, Mr. Forward, and Ms. Welman (any missing posts that were non-retrievable have simply been lost to time), grouped by each thread in which they were originally posted, and with links to the original posts archived by Google Groups provided therein. The screennames used at the time by the three were:
  • Larry DiTillio: "DiTillio"
  • Bob Forward: "Bob Forward", "BeastBob1", "[email protected]", and (amusingly) "SpamToIgnore"
  • Mairi Welman: "Mairi Welman", "Mairi", "mairi", and "mairi welman"
Also included are additional posts made by other users who either quoted some of the aforementioned missing posts, or shared e-mailed messages, interviews, and other commentary from DiTillio, Forward, or Welman.

All spelling and grammatical errors are left as they originally were. The formatting, however, has been polished and cleaned up for better readability, as the formatting of the old Usenet system was messy and inconsistent, leaving several posts in a poor (sometimes illegible) state of presentation. Though, line-spacing has been left mostly unaltered.

Text rendered below in Italics represents text shared from other sources, such as text quoted from other users' posts, or messages shared from emails.
