It was worth the wait.
The story of how the Transformers mythos came to be in 1983-1984 is a story full of people who had no idea what they were doing. It's a miracle it ended up as coherent as it did.
I've always found it odd that they went so different on Muffly/Bumblebee's design. It looks more like they were using a Gobots Bugbite as a reference, but it doesn't 100% line up with that, either.
I wonder if maybe the development was so early that they were thinking about proposing a new figure, along the same lines as the "Mysterians" figures that ended up as the non-Penny Racer minibots.
