i genuinely don't know how the joint chiefs will respond when he comes to them with this.
They're not stupid people. They know what this will mean.

Greenland is part of a nato nation. ANY invasion will trigger article five and put the entire rest of nato into play to fight it, even if that invasion is the US. So it's a case of "you either die a hero, or live long enough to see yourself become the villain.".

That's what I mean. The Joint Chiefs will know exactly what will happen. Even the underlings they'd be replaced with if they abruptly quit or were fired will know that such an act will trigger a world war. Will they do it?

Edit: and even just considering the situation is horrible. Either the US military follows illegal orders and proves it's not an allied force to nato anymore... or the US military collapses because it won't follow those illegal orders and the door is open to every would be conqueror and dictator with an ego bigger than their IQ.

At that point I'd be rooting for what's left of NATO to return the favor and invade the US with the intention of divvying it up the way the Allies did to Germany.

Just a random thought here, but if America survives Trump 2.0 as an nation intact, it’s going to need a Second Republic, a whole new constitution and framework, to avoid a Trump every happening again. That’s if the US doesn’t collapse completely, of course.

It's going to take that collapse to make that kind of complete do-over even possible. The people squatting in our seat of government would never go for it. Hell, I don't actually know a single person I would trust to become one of America 2.0's Founding Fathers.

US: invades Greenland
Denmark: Did you see that? NATO ASSEMBLE!
Other NATO nations looking at the US military in full force: ...
Denmark: nato assemble?
Other NATO nations disband NATO
Denmark: Well, F-
Putin: Excellent work, my apprentice. scritches Trump's head
