Anyway, who needs an ambassador to the UN when Trump is planning to pull out of it entirely?

I thought when he nominated someone for Secretary of Education that meant something. He might appoint an ambassador to the UN so there would be someone to go tell them off.

I didn't think about it before, but here's some ammunition to file away. Trump has said a lot of times that there was never a terrorist attack on US soil in his first term. It wasn't true, even by his own word, but anyway.

His justification for deporting anyone that looks like they could be a member of a Venezuelan gang (and a lot of people look kinda like that) is that they are a terrorist organization. So if they have done any crimes (I guess they have?) then he's got a lot of terrorist attacks.

Seems a bit premature when many of us are still placing odds on him not living through this one (be it natural causes or “otherwise”)

I'd be surprised if Obama ran again. I don't have any sources to cite on that, I just can't see it at the moment.

I've seen a couple mentions of Trump and a 3rd term today, so I dug through the npr article, and he goes all over the place. It's so hard with him to figure out what's noise/distraction and what's groundwork for something he's going to actually make an executive order on later. Scary, too, when he says stuff like "you'll never have to vote again."

One part that does make sense to me is that he always has to have "a thing" to stir people up. Sometimes it's blaming a specific group (ranging from cat-eating immigrants to Canadians) but this could be another one of those temporary things. He can keep everyone's attention by getting them fired up about a third term.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

The specific brought forth by bannon so far (I know, GREAT source...) says the wording will basically be such that it only really applies to trump. Not that it wouldn't apply to other former presidents, but none of the still living ones would qualify.

I'd be surprised if Trump lives long enough for another term, but all he has to do is set a precedent for a more competent monster to take over later and his role is done, as far as the party's concerned.

Sure, but he'll never admit to weakness, even mortality itself. And to a raging egomaniac like him, the universe begins and ends with him. All he needs is to set up the idea that he can keep running as long as he wants. He'll keep going because he's a buffoon and the party will back him to set up the next dictator. And the whole show will distract from whatever other atrocities he's doing, so it's a win-win-win for them.

There is something about Trump. I don't know what it is, I cannot explain it, but no one else can do what he has done. Any successor will not have the kind of penetration and ability to just do whatever the hug they want like Trump.
Again, I don't understand it, can't explain it, but he's like the idiot whisperer. The pied piper of methies and dumbfucks.

Also while technically this is Asian politics, it's directly caused by Trump's faffing about:
China, Japan, South Korea Discuss Economic Ties and Regional Trade

China, Japan, and South Korea held their first economic dialogue in five years Sunday, discussing the potential impacts of tariffs and attempting to find ways to increase regional trade.

Discussions primarily focused on a free trade agreement between the three countries, according to a statement. The nations’ trade ministers agreed to "closely cooperate for a comprehensive and high-level" on the issue and hold additional talks in the coming months. The countries hope to create "a predictable trade and investment environment," as well, per a joint statement.

South Korea’s Trade Minister Ahn Duk-geun said "It is necessary to strengthen the implementation of RCEP, in which all three countries have participated, and to create a framework for expanding trade cooperation among the three countries through Korea-China-Japan FTA negotiations.”

“RCEP” is the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership being discussed.
That sounds really familiar. Imagine if the US, Canada, and Mexico had a similar agreement...
