If Donald Trump were written as a fictional character, critics would say that he's a completely one-dimensional cartoonish villain. It's still hard to believe he's a real person. He should have been a miscarriage.

You could try to explain to Trumpers that carelessly handling classified documents but fully co-operating with authorities is not the same thing as deliberately concealing documents from authorities when they come looking for them, but they don't care. That's why it's not worth the bother.

It's like trying to explain to a Nazi that Jews are in fact fully human. What's the point? You know he's not going to listen.

The GOP has always hoped that Trump would destroy himself without any help from them, so that they could inherit his rabid supporters while continuing to encourage and exploit their hatred and misdirected rage.

Sadly, if Trump goes down from this criminal indictment, their strategy will have worked. They will win, having never once done the right thing. They will have his army of drooling orcs and trolls on their side, and they will benefit from his rigging of electoral and legal systems in their favour.

I don't like that they had an AI read the transcript in Trump's voice. I just know that in this or some near future case, the defense is going to be that the meeting never happened and the tape is made by AI.

wonko the sane?

You may test that assumption at your convinience.

Which can be nicely countered by ensuring that statement is always included in the whole transcript.

I don't understand what you mean.

In actual court they will have to play the tape and have someone testify that they were present and that the tape was of Donald Trump and testimony of witnesses is SUPPOSED to be the gold standard for our legal system, but when it starts being totally plausible that tapes are invented from scratch, there won't be any point in playing tapes at all and for a long time, tapes and video have been the most convincing evidence.

All you need to do is preface the conversation on the tape with "This conversation was created with AI". Throw it at the end too to ensure there's no confusion. The owners of the AI will eventually need to create some kind of legal protection against litigation for the content generated by the software, so it makes sense to add bumpers stating the nature of the content.

I mean, hell: we grew up in the era where the broadcast standards required bumpers on cartoons so kids could tell the difference between the show and the commercials The law DOES NOT think highly of the cognition or perception of people as a whole. The more, blatant steps you take to ensure there can be no confusion, the better.

The problem for me isn't HIS AI generated tape. He said before that it was AI generated and all that. The problem is that his AI generated AI tape is almost good enough to make it forever plausible that no tape is real. And the real tape having a preface saying "This one is not AI" isn't going to be very convincing as proof.

Oh no, I agree with that argument ENTIRELY. It's going to be a very real, very massive problem moving forward, and not even in a few years time, in months and weeks. And it's just going to be used to further divide and terrify the population for the purposes of accumulating political and economic power.

We got the dystopia, but none of the cool jive like cybernetic augments or full immersion VR, or hover cars.

I saw some folks speculating this will all bring back analog film and recording at some point, because anything digital could have been generated. I doubt even that will do it (at least for audio) because there's nothing stopping you from feeding the digital output into the input of the analog device.. Chain of custody is about to become -very- important(even more than it was before).

Fun fact. Mercedes Lackey actually wrote a Trump type character in the Family Spies series set in the Valdemar series. Also a Ruth Bader Ginsberg character. Guess what happened to the Trump type character.

Ironbite-go on...guess.

Did the Ruth Bader Ginsburg character refuse to retire, thereby allowing her political opponents to appoint her replacement and roll back much of her accomplishments on the bench?

My guess for the Trump-ish character involved the sharp end of a sword. Or getting stepped on by a horse - but I've only read a couple Valdemar books.

Trump is going to blame whatever word pops into his head from now until the Reaper finally gets off his bony ass to deal with it. Anything to avoid admitting any degree of fault.
